  • The Fiverr drawing series returns with increased prices, bigger efforts, tighter deadlines and weirder requests. It is no longer DIRT CHEAP but rather KINDA CHEAP.
I post my gig on Fiverr and let my subscribers send me the drawing requests of their dreams. I make them come to life for a reasonable amount of money. If you want to buy a drawing next time, follow me on Instagram to be notified.

Having the same characters to focus on drawing and developing the personalities of has improved my art greatly and has given me motivation to keep improving. And yeah, the escapism of my ocs somehow manages to improve my mental health a bit when reality is shit. That's probably concerning, but whatever

Thank you so much for the drawing. I requested the Angel and I couldn’t be happier :)))
Originally, my OCs were designed to be part of a story and a universe. Now, they’re nostalgic and comforting to draw. They also serve as a consistent subject that I feel confident drawing in any pose and manner.

I actually love seeing people draw other people's OC's. Maybe that isn't for you, and that's fine, but what comes to mind is how much fun and excitement that person is getting from having some life breathed into a character they have created, and I think that is pretty cool.
Also, I agree with a comment below from Stabby Stabs, you always see fanart, but it's refreshing seeing new characters that haven't necessarily seen the light of day.

  • @TRICELLED
    @TRICELLED 3 роки тому +377

At the most basic level, any fanart that is commissioned of you is technically a drawing of someone's OC. We just typically don't think of it that way once the media reaches publication.
I think a good handful of people who create characters do actually intend to use them in some way, either in published media or just as a means of improving their skills at character design + consistently drawing a character + writing interesting ideas/stories. (They then take these skills into producing media we consume.)
I understand the concern of detachment with your audience over the subject matter. I would probably argue that portraits of those ordering the commission, people's inside jokes, and other things you've drawn for this series in the past have about the same level of connection with the audience, where only the commissioner gets the full benefit of the piece. I think that's fine, they are the one paying for it after all. If the chicken-headed man was an "original character" instead of a random subject, I don't really think the experience changes much for the viewer. I guess it depends on your viewpoint.
Maybe in the future you could be more selective in picking designs that you personally find interesting if you decide to continue drawing these sorts of pieces. I do think it's well within your rights to be honest about your thoughts on people's OCs. Based on some of the text in the commission order details it seems like at least some portion of the audience expects that honesty as well, and... well, if they didn't before I'm sure they do now! Haha
I love your videos, this is a great one as always! Your skill at art and personality is what keeps me watching, not the subject matter of your individual pieces!
P.S. Challa! You know the answer to the "Do they roleplay with them?" question! You've drawn art for D&D campaigns before!

Free my man Payday! He ain’t done nothing wrong!! But fr my piece is incredible 😳 thank you chalada!
I wanna touch on the oc thing- a lot of people have ocs to inspire them and work on their storytelling skills. But what inspires one person might not inspire you which is why it might not make an entertaining video. That’s why I tried to give you things to comment on/ make fun of in my request without overwhelming you with boring furry info. But maybe next time make a no ocs or anime rule? Though that might be risky- Don’t be afraid to roast the ocs! Everyone commissioning you knows you speak your mind so go for it! I expected to get roasted much harder than I did for that buff prison furry and I woulda loved it 👁

    2) If people watch your channel, they should know that you are honest about your opinion. They should know what they are getting into, and therefore you shouldn't feel ashamed of being honest if you don't like the OC.

OCs are just characters like any others that haven't seen mainstream publication if you ask me. For a lot of people they're a character to explore through writing, art, roleplay and whatever other creative mediums they find their way into like video games and animation.
I like them, even if someone's OC isn't my cup of tea there's some crazy creativity on display out there. And I've always found it really cool to see characters drawn in different styles, particularly very transformative ones like the "de-animefication" you tend to do with anime-style characters. Same goes for furry characters/fursonas, they can look wildly different depending on how the artist portrays them. Seeing an artist that isn't a part of a certain community (like anime or furry) draw characters from within that community often leads to really cool and fresh results too.

i haven't seen other commenters bring this up but OCs tend to be very close attachments to people and can embody alot of things to the creator
most of mine are story related but for me they're more than just models for my art, they're characters i spent alot of time and energy with creating and writing.
not everyone bonds w their ocs like that and fully characterize them but its a good inside look !!
i enjoy seeing you draw pretty much anything but if you aren't enjoying a piece then it might be better limiting your commissions on fiverr to things you do enjoy doing

I use mine as an escape, not that my life is anything crazy, but it’s fun to use your imagination and see how far it goes. You can create your own shows with your own characters just in your head. But I also think it’s interesting how the brain works and manages to create these moving pictures that don’t actually exist and you’re just fabricating them.

Challa I don't know how to tell you this but ocs aren't a niche. It's actually the most popular thing. It's literally just making designs you can use for stories, art, or anything. Believe it or not but it's exactly like having a favorite character from a show. Why does this character design exist? Cause they can be used in story telling.
Oc story telling can just be more personal then being for profit.

OC's can have a story or it can be an online persona a person uses. I personally used my OC for both. When I was younger, I would roleplay as my OC, now I just enjoy the nostalgia my OC brings me.

I think it'd be cool if someone gave you their oc and there'd be a way to make it so that you actually a. Like drawing it b. Like the idea/finished product c. It makes sense, in whatever context
I saw that you almost suffered trying to draw some of those ocs, some turned good some ehh, lol.. so it's be good to see try to maybe make them enjoyable with your artistic freedom, if the person asks for it? Of course I know limited time makes it really hard but then you get pieces that kinda flop
Also, as a traditional "artist" 'tracing' by using your eyes and training your memory is just the best advice I could give. Digital -artists-? work differently, I guess.

this was rad, admittedly I liked seeing your drawings of people's OCs (particularly the angel and the prison furry) it's cool seeing how you interpret other people's characters with limited knowledge/reference! Would be interesting to see OC drawings without ANY reference art, just text discriptions, and see how different your art is from the person's own OC art!

To be honest I wouldn't think about the oc stuff too much because every single character you see on the internet or on paper, whether they were made by a professional video game company or by Some random 12 year old girl, every character you see is an original character even if they're not that original.

  • @sujurean

I'm honestly a tad confused. I understand if you aren't excited to draw furries, bc that's not everyone's thing. But OCs or human characters-- is it just the fact the buyers don't give you a eubstantial backstory for them to properly create a scene? Or is it the fact the buyers don't give you something open-ended/force you to make something not withon your style.
I'm only curious because, arguably, novelists, illustrators, and comic artists all have OCs 🤷🏽‍♂️ just bc they describe things and its gonna be utilized for something professional/published, doesn't mean their OCs are any different than a person with a standalone OC.

Juice Ok but, he's made other commissions before based off of a character that isn't his that he enjoyed doing, aka the long form ones off of fiverr. If he didn't like the commission, he can easily flat out deny them? So clearly, he doesn't mind doing it to an extent, what i'm asking is, where's the limit? Does it need to be for a professional publication in order for him to enjoy it, bc if so, then he should just bump up the price to make up for the fact he's not getting the exposure through a big-client.
Y'all are seeing this as a 'lol edgy ocs suxx' standpoint view while im seeing it like "Man my dude, u are legit putting a huge pause button on this series bc in the end of the day, most commissions are gonna be an OC, even from an industry standpoint 😬"

the majority of online artists have oc's, so it's kinda weird that u think it's a small community. but don't accept oc commissions if u don't wanna draw them, also for 4 characters + background u should've charged like 300$

To put it simply, OCs are just a small (or large) form of storytelling for a specific character.

  • @broski9938

OC person here and I use my human OCs for stories - trying to write a comic! - and my two furry characters have different purposes. My sona is to represent me, whilst the character is to just have fun drawing and seeing other people draw them. I think that last one is pretty common with OC stuff. And I like seeing you draw OCs. Even though I don't know them, your art is entertaining to watch regardless! You could draw a pile of shit and I'd still find it entertaining to watch ngl

2 hours of intense focus is very draining, and even after all that effort,we have to compromise for a "suck" end result because
    we're limited by the hours.
there are ton of jobs where you do nothing at the office yet still got paid $7000, it's kinda unfair
