Doing Art Commissions Be Like
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 сер 2022
- I run into some financial troubles and solve them by taking commissions from my followers. I've grown a "habit" of using Fiverr for this purpose, usually resulting in an entertaining video containing many clients, but this time I made a change and ditched Fiverr, as well as banned some types of subject matter I don't enjoy drawing. The result is that only 2 people bought art from me. But it's fine, you gotta be grateful for what you do get.
I may be reopening commissions in the coming weeks, so if you're interested in the price ranges and such, the info sheet can be found here: workflowy.com/s/challa-commis...

How to get a 9-hour commission from challa:
Step 1. Pay for 5 hours.
Step 2. Hope.
Edit: I just realized that I wrote Challa with lower-case "c", but if I edit the comment it will lose the pin and the heart from Challa.. so oops, my bad...
@@SylvesterLazarus Big Brain time
@@SylvesterLazarus
1. You only lose the heart and keep the pin
2. It’s not that big of a deal, proper grammar is not necessary for a UA-cam comment
@@ozyisgoated It happened to me before and I lost both, but they might've changed it since then. Also, missing the capital C is a pretty big mistake.
Normie commissioners: Why are your rates so high? It's not like drawing is hard 😒
Furry commissioners: Yes, I will pay $2,000 for art featuring my fursona making out with Nala from The Lion King
💀
remembering the 20,000 furry art commission
@@emo-nordegraf lmao yes that was 20k bc was an auction + mental illness of buyer+the artist have a HUGE community behind not happend often but yeah furrys tent to be $$$ on commissions they want
@@emo-nordegraf omg ye 💀
i mean
as an artist all that tells me is furries are much better customers over all, hate the whole "can i get a discount, it's too expensive, it's only a drawing" bs
besides
shit, for 2000 dollars i'd draw the mf making out with me if he asked me to.
I skipped ahead and though "wait he does 3d models?", that genuinely looks so good
I think you're right about the art bots, the only people scared of them are people who had low opinions of themselves and their art in general. real creatives who have to think about the process in more detail understand better than to treat these bots as a threat.
But images/paintings from the official Dall-E are often times pretty amazing tbh
@@moonnight1616 I think human input will never die tbh. Dall-E and those AI can make really good pieces, yet i think composition is something random for the ia as they don't have feelings, and only bases in other compositions, so they will never create an emotion by themselves, and have to rely on human material.
@@DiselSun I think that even composition is something AI can come to understand through their ability to analyze a lot of works made by people
But I still think that currently artists couldn't be replaced, rather because good communication between two individuals is still far above the ability of the AI's understanding of people's description (especially when they contain a lot of detail)
@@moonnight1616 I think it's kinda like the invention of photography. People were questioning if paintings would even have a purpose in the future. Photographs didn't make painting obsolete. 3D modelling didn't make painting obsolete. I think it will be just an addition to the medium for artists to use without destroying human-made art itself. The AI can mesh things together but we are very far from an AI actively creating something with "thoughts" (something like a creative process) behind it.
@@thereall7149 I absolutely agree
Every day's a good day when Challa uploads.
Most underrated art UA-camr.
Yes and it hurts my heart, Challa is one of the most skilled and underrated artists similar to kloud very good works from him but yet barely 100k subs
@@heh5867 never heard of of kloud i'll check em out
@@johnbrockiii kloud makes bangers in quality imo, but it's up to your taste
I don't think AI art is going to be a problem in the near future, but if there is something that I've learnt about technology is that, every time I think something can't be possible or its going to take a long time, the faster that thing develops and improves, so who knows...
maybe in 10 years, AI art will already be perfect enough to be used.
I've used Mid journey to create logos and except for text it does a scarily good job with designs
Also he didn’t use the official version of Dall E 2. I have beta access and the difference between the online versions and the actual version is night and day
what did he use again?
The production on this video is fucking insane. Great work!
This was really badass bro. Your whole UA-cam journey is inspiring. I remember when you were making videos about the chrome store art apps lmao.
Here's what I learned from this, always charge per project not for time, but also keep a timer alongside the work.
This might be a helpful inside for artists. I have commissioned more than I'm comfortable to admit.
I only commission artists if I can't find what I'm looking for. Pose that nobody thinks about, clothes barely anyone draws, specific scenarios I couldn't find after searching for hours, characters talking about topics rarely talked about and so on and so forth.
You have to give me a reason why I should contact you when I see your commission sheet. You have to remind me or bring myself to remind me.
That can be done by including a slogan, easily readable like this: "Remember that time you searched for a specific thing but couldn't find it, I'll help you out."
Or maybe something shorter that brings the idea across.
Some examples of rare things include: Swimming skirts, they exist but nobody knows they exist. So I commissioned an artist to draw a character wearing one.
A character who has lost her ring finger a long time ago. Makes me wonder what's her story. Almost nobody draws things like that either. But different eye colours and you've got terrabytes of data.
A female lifting her shirt to clean her glasses with it. Nobody thought of drawing that pose.
A character working under a car, only the legs and feet are visible. Searched for hours, results: 0
Characters casually talking about 1. how they've lost their virginity, 2. something that's on a characters mind making them sad (makes you just want to hug them), 3. about cheesy jokes and much more.
A character on a bicycle waiting for green, not sitting with her but.t on her bike but with her leg. Often seen in real life but you can't even find good real life references for that.
A character washing a di.ldo. Nobody so far drew that idea.
An easy way to find unused ideas like that is to search for "skirt" in the tag section of any website. Include * at the front or back of the word: *skirt* (so the website looks for tags including the word skirt)
On the first page you'll find: red_skirt, black_skirt, upskirt, short_skirt, skirt_over_shorts, etc etc.
But on the last few pages you'll find: swimming_skirt, damaged_skirt, asymetrical_skirt, leaf_skirt, buttons_on_skirt, skirt_stuck_in_elevator_doors, ...
I think artists can draw many more eyes to their galleries by including such novelties.
If anyone wants, I'm happy to answer questions or give more examples of novelties. But I might just be very different from other people who commission artists.
Hi, thanks for the tips since I rarely see it from the commissioner side of things, is there an issue if I contacted you through discord so I could ask questions about it? Sounds iffy I know but I lack knowledge and I would love to see your insight on what could be improved in my art. Hope this doesn't bother you or anything lol
@@indigo3032 Sure we can do that ^^ I wrote you a mail.
Buddy, you might have a serious skirt fetish
Well, that explains why furries are a commission meme. It is unusual so people commission it a lot.
Thanks for the prompts lol
ahhh if I wasn't short on cash I'd commisson you! one of my favorite art youtubers
God Bless you Dude. your Work Ethic is fucking Inspiring. you're gonna go places, BIG Places. mark my words.
I learn more stuff watching your videos than from all the tutorials in this universe.
Legit, was expecting a meme, not a full blown video xD
Really Sad that Challa doesn't get the amount Attention he deserves.
Makes my whole day when you upload. I Love watching you draw the more expensive commissions
loved this new vid challa, whenever i watch you i always get inspired to draw. so thank you!

I just fell into a rabbit hole of Challa videos (Specifically the Fiver videos)- And then boom, he just uploads a video. Wth, this is great.

The fact the first thing on the list was furrys says a lot. Though as a furry myself it's not surprising.
Great work, great art
I NEED to see more "polished, rendered" from you
The speed of me clicking this video once I realized it was CHALLA. 😤

It's a great day when Challa uploads!
Every time challa uploads i eat up the video and enjoy it like a 5 star meal
Challa really served with those pose pictures
I'm planning on taking a break from art since I've been in a bad place mentally after injuring my hand from overusing it at the end of art college. I'm also in a bad place with my art right now; I've realized I have no idea how to paint or render digitally outside of lazy cell-shaded or airbrush techniques, and my anatomy needs like a year's worth of training because it's really rough. Basically, I have a long road ahead of me in my art journey, and feel like college was pointless and that I learned nothing and won't ever be able to go professional because of chronic RSI (repetitive strain injury, what my drawing hand has). Of course, I know this is plain and simple depression talking, but I do want to say, your render process is really inspiring! It makes a lot of sense to me as a Game Art and Design major; it reminds me of different types of texture maps.
I was wondering when the furry ban was coming. In these types of videos in the past, you could always see/hear how disappointed he was. He'd try to conceal it, but you'd see a bit of dread on his face.
i just wonder whats his issue with furries? I'm always delighted when i get a furry commission because 9/10 the customer is super duper nice and generous
Opening a video and seeing an unexpected Kingdom Hearts mention is always good
wow (literally). second one is more something to be proud of :)
this video was gold
Why are most furries rich?

This is very informative,Ty!
Also what brushes do you use in CSP?
This is. Something-
If you take more time for the commission, how does it translate to the final payment?? Do you give them price cut like 20%-50% or you will charge the same but give them some extra artworks or something?? Im delving into commission part as an artist, so I need the ground rules and Im just curious how its works. Thanks for any answer.
idk what challa would do but if you take more time i think you wouldn't take less money, it's not like the person commissioning you is counting the hours. id just charge the price we agreed on, and maybe raise my prices a little from then on if i notice i keep taking longer than expected. think of it like a normal job: you wouldn't have to give money back to your boss if you work overtime. you can also add a complexity fee if a piece is very detailed and will take longer, but you should probably let the client know about that early on, not when it's finished. though if you mean in the sense that you promised to finish in a week, but instead take a month, then you could add extra art or a price cut if you want imo
@@nidgithm thanks. Appreciate the answer. I just want to know cause I want to start doing comission since landing a job as animator is pretty impossible in my place. Still working in retail right now and decide to not waste my education and try building a name for commision and jobs.
@@firdausgaara2006 good luck, i hope you manage to find clients
What I learned. Can't pull off a decent colored artwork in two hours when not doing a paint approach. I don't ask nearly enough for 4-6 hours.
great vid
Would have been cool if u added a moon and some stars on the last one
Doesn't miss
Yeah...
One can't predict how much a drawing will take to be done XD.
Now I simply give ti a range of 10-16 hours to be finished, I don't try to give it a set amount XD.
And even then sometimes I end at 7 or 20 hours XD.
"I used some 3D tools in CSP-" cries in procreate
Damn, it is dream to have comissions right there if you need it. You can be very imaginative with furries or other "generic"stuff.

Great job 👍
Hey man, if you really need to get yourself some pose references, buy a few gi Joe figures. Trust me, they will be a life saver. If you really want to go crazy, go to a rogue toys, they sell Joe parts for cheap, but it will be a pain to build a custom figure just because of how the torso connects to the waist.
Yes this is how commission are xD
i am in another country and using mobile data in roming to watch this video so if thats not a proof i love watching you idk what is!
Out of curiosity; you've mentioned that you've lost some bits of recording your art in several videos because of not starting OBS. Would the timelapse recording in Clip Studio help in those situations?
I do also use the CSP timelapse feature in my videos sometimes, just inserting bits of it in between normal recordings. But sometimes I also forget to turn that on xd
sorry but the only thing I was thinking while watching this video is, you don't do thumbnails before starting an illustration? like it's a thing of 5 minutes and you could have skipped most of the mistakes you did on your first illustration.
sorry I don't want to be rude it's just a genuine question, you have way more experience than me in commissions since I never done one, and you said you started in the wrong mindset so I'm assuming is this.
Challa of when
Hey Challa, I just want to ask if the fact that you're famous youtuber and u make pretty funny content makes it harder to find job in for example gamedev industry, do you think it looks bad for employers? Like less proffesionall?
Not at all, having a social media following for your work can give you all the more credibility and has never been a problem for me. I suppose a potential downside of it in the eyes of an employer could be that you may be less likely to stay loyal to their company long term, but that's the only negative I can think of.

Totally ironic i used you as inspiration for some prompts, you def need to work in your promp design though
dall-e mini is really not a good ai for this sort of thing, i know theres one's that can generate full on artistic masterpieces but i dont know the names of them
No joke I got 30 ads while watching this video.
I have a question about Art Commission, how long should does it take to get your pic? I paid three artists and I've been waiting for weeks almost two months now and still nothing. I get a response like my work is in progress or they will let me know when they'll get to it. I don't want to sound rude or anything but they really lack communication. They somehow have time to post their art and retweets but can't even show me a sketch. This is my first time asking for commission and this experience sucks, what should I do?
That sucks man, sounds like you're working with some pretty unprofessional people. Obviously the time will vary for each artist you work with but if they're professional about it they indicate the estimated timeframes on their info sheet beforehand and give updates to the client on delays and such. It's not rude at all to ask for more communication if you already paid them. I'd suggest asking what their planned timeline for the commission looks like and what are things that hold the progress back. Obviously the timeline won't always be accurate but you should try to prompt them to give it some thought at least, which in itself makes the commission more "real" for them if you know what I mean.
I don't wanna say you've run into scammers because I don't know which artists you're buying from but waiting for months seems excessive to me.
@@challagundla4 My bad for not responding sooner I had some personal issues to deal with but yeah, it's going sour for these commissions. I did contact some and they either completely forgot or is dealing with life issues or doing some holiday event. It doesn't make sense if they say they're open for commission but have personal things at the same time. They honestly lack communication
when you want to use an ai creation to base an artwork off of, you cant really have expectations or an exact sort of image that you want to generate xd
just fool around with the ai, putting whatever you want, and if you find an image that has a gorgeous composition or colour pallete then develop it!

Hey if you're ever looking for AI generated inspirations, I would highly recommend MidJourney. It's a AI based through discord where you can /imagine a prompt and it gives out highly detailed illustrations. Some of these generations are leagues ahead of Dall-E-2 in terms of digital art/drawings.
