Hi Peter, nice comparison! In my opinion the Fathead gives a nasal sound in the low-mid range. I don´t like it very much. What´s your opinion? Which one do you like the most?
Good point, sounds like you've heard and compared a few different mics. The Fathead is definitely cheaper, but was the only ribbon I had at the time (it's now missing😭), so my ears now crave something of better quality. I like them all in their own way, but I like how the ribbon highlights the lows (despite quality), but the AKG has a nice solid sound (and is of better quality than the others). The Zoom is just super handy, convenient, and gives solid audio with stereo capabilities
@@jazzbonept yes I am comparing some mics at the moment. I tried the Beyerdynamic M130 and M160 the SE X1R and VR2. The one I like most is the VR2. I think it is a great Ribbon to record the solo trombone (the passive model VR1 is cheaper). But in general I think a Condenser is better when the recorded Trombone need to be mixed with other instruments. I don't want too much low end to overlap with the bass.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Not a bad mic for under $200, if I do say so myself; it's the most inexpensive one in this video and is a steal, in my opinion

Fathead sounds more even across the whole range
AKG is pretty dark
Zoom is mediocre but in A good way
Yeah I though AKG was brighter at first, but listening to these comparison tests, it definitely had a darkness to it! Thanks for feedback, bro 😎
Thought I liked the Zoom at first but the Fathead is better overall.
