Going to the 2 piece aluminum body construction will HOPEFULLY allow Gavin to up production numbers. I saw an interview with him a while back saying that was the goal and to make them much easier to produce. This one is definitely on the must buy list.
I 100% agree that otf knives are much safer than almost any other design. If one of my daughters runs up to me while I’m opening a box or a similar situation I can instantly close the blade without risk of slicing my fingers in the process. Unfortunately you sacrifice a little bit of reliability due to debris like Pennie’s and junk building up inside the frame. But in the right atmosphere like around home or in your “Sunday best clothes” they are fantastic.
I finally own a Hawk model C. I paid 1500 after searching and waiting and searching and finally done waiting. No comparison to ANY other OTF! My 2nd favorite OTF is the Microtech Dirac. Small super cool snappy EDC. Not a Deadlock and not supposed to be. I don’t realize a difference in the carry despite the difference in size and weight. I wear light hiking pants year round. Sometimes I carry both because they are both super cool… BUT the Hawk is the Bugatti of OTFs
Yes, I got a dark matter fatcarbon with satin blade and hardware. Previous main daily was a Dirac standard stonewashed. Deadlock is amazing. Dirac is still awesome. And in the rotation. I constantly and consistently recommend the Dirac. Great size and weight. If you can pull it off the deadlock is as close to perfect as any knife I've ever owned. It's pricey and that means even the few people that get one likely won't use it. I guess mine is going to help make theirs worth more. I'm using mine, it cuts better than any otf dagger I've ever owned and I don't see myself parting with it, ever:)
I’m guessing I’m one of the LUCKY ONES. I was able to secure both new model C’s, carbon fiber and titanium. After watching your video, my anticipation is going through the roof. Thanks so much for all of the information. Now the waiting begins.
I made it to the end, waited a year 1/2,, paid more than 1000$… G&G Hawk Deadlock Mod C… Nothing compares! Worth the money and the patience/ Great review! 👍👍👍👏👏👏
My OTF story. I bought a Boker USA OTF just because: I could, and I thought it would be fun. Then I discovered how useful it was! Wow. The number of times I needed a knife I could deploy with one hand to cut rope, tape, etc. It has become my every day carry knife. I live in TN where most knife laws have been repealed.
I’ve been waiting for this! 🙌 I just picked a Model C. Pricey, but I had to have it. No regrets. I’ve had quite a few OTFs. Mostly MIcrotech and one Guardian Tactical. The later great action, but wasn’t crazy about the handle and pocket clip. The Hawk Deadlock has amazing action and solid lockup with no blade play. And high build quality!
I will never forget the first time someone flipped out cause I had used one. I do apt maintenance and we are always fixing the rope in the pool for the floats. So one day my coworker and his mother in law and son were there and I had to make a cut with an old lightning otf. The kid said wow! That's awesome! And the grandma flipped out. You should not have that blahblahblah. Well I did and I do but ok my bad. Stopped using it for maintenance tasks after that day.
Great review. I own the Model B and love it but now I want one of these. I am kicking myself for not ordering one when I received the email from the Hawks.
I made it to the end of your video. I don't see spending that much on a knife in my foreseeable future - but I like hearing your thoughts on knives, especially in areas that are way outside of my wheelhouse, like this fella. Thanks for sharing your experience, your thoughts, and your world. 👍
I wouldn't get your hopes up for a Ti built version. Gavin said in an interview with Levon that Ti was the wrong material for construction because of galling. They will continue to use it for inlays and such though. Also the bump up in aluminum is helped by type 3 hard coat anodizing that makes for a tougher, smoother, and harder handle than any other aluminum handle you'll find and allows for the extremely smooth deployment. And the craziest thing about the perfection of the blade is that every blade is ground and sharpened by hand by Gavin.
@@paulbosley6448 I saw that they switched to Ti for the most recent run. It's almost kinda frustrating considering the problems Gavin said Ti presented. But I guess Ti is king no matter what and the knife community is going to blindly insist on it.
@@jonathanwatson268 yeah, I know it's a thing....the ti part actually wasn't that important to me, I just wanted another deadlock and they cost way more on the secondary market. I love the one I have, use it every day:) if I'm not happy with the ti version there's a huge line of people wanting to take it off my hands. Gavin says he can make it work it's just going to require more work/money. DLC version is 2k now....that's a lot of money for a knife I want to carry and use. I'm not a just look at it kind of guy...so I can't say I'll be keeping it for sure...but the one I have now, it's MINE! :)
@@paulbosley6448 that's great! I'm glad you enjoy it. I'm a bit frustrated personally because when they were 1K I had hoped to save up for one but now that they have basically doubled in price it's essentially out of reach for me.
Made it all the way to the end. I picked one up for 1200.00 recently. Love love LOVE it!!! I also have a model B with marbled carbon fiber handles and flame accented titanium accents. That is an incredible piece as well. I do like the feel of the model C over the B. Hawks quality is beyond reproach….utter perfection!
Great knife....Great design.....I actually invested in the first 2 models and doubled my money selling both back to Gavin......He needs to make a model that most people can afford.....Let's look at the self defense reality world here....Most people who can legally carry an OTF in the state they reside in can probably get a concealed carry license....An M&P Shield micro-compact is under $600.....I'll invest in the firearm......This knife is a collectors item....Nothing less.....
As somewhat of an armed combat enthusiast, i can say basically with authority that this is not a good weapon. I suppose it's serviceable. But there is no guard and minimal waist. It definately looks cool. I totally bought one. For a neat automatic that functions perfectly as a weapon, the EX AO5 wharncliffe is a pretty awesome knife.

I use knives that range anywhere from $20 - $1500. I've reviewed knives worth up to $5000. The Deadlock doesn't cost more than the Ultratech because it can cut better. It costs more because more time and effort go into its construction. Whether or not you or anyone else values this extra polish/construction quality is entirely up to you.
Probably because it's custom made by hand. It won't do the job any better than a less expensive bit set, but it definitely cost more to make. Again, save yourself the mental distress and just don't buy it.
@@metal_complex I’m sure it’s made really well and I would probably buy it if I had more money to throw around, but if my Ultratech ever needs disassembled I’ll just be sending back to Microtech. I do however enjoy being able to disassemble my own knives.
