Did exactly the same on my 07 Touran had to cut off nearly every bolt, new bolt kit was very expensive and replace with poly bushes replaced all arms good luck
More Vw gold, got a mk5 gti myself these things rust like mad,I’ve painted mine underneath after losing about about 1ton in rust then used bilt hamber uc the stuff is amazing done the archers as well and use atom mac at every wash it’s holding up brilliant, get yourself a low entry trolley jack so much quicker and better and a cheap 1/2 rattle gun speeds the job up
dynax UC is great, i've done both front arches in it. A better jack in on my list of things to get, i've had this halfords one for about 10 years and it's starting to show its age, still works just about ok! Eventually i'll get a hold of a 1/2in impact too. This time round it was a case of order nice parts or nicer tools, went for nice parts.
Hard work man, a lot to remove on a mk5 than on a mk4. RP 90 spray has been my go to recently after not being able to get PB Blaster , map gas torch too... we need all the help we can get tackling jobs like this on Scottish cars 😭😂
I have a 1.9 TDI, and its not as near as bad of a condition as yours GTI. I am in Europe tho, I guess the climate was the main culprit. Either way I wish you good luck, see you on the next video.
Thanks for the kind words! The biggest issue here is the amount of salt used over the winter months on the roads, I have some products to use to combat that that you’ll see after the final assembly.
@@gpi_eightynineI used Neutrarust 661® Rust Converter - The Original Water based & Non-Hazardous. MOD & NATO Approved from Amazon on my Octavia mk2… rear sub frame.. (Scotlands rds) great stuff ! Ok very pricey for 4L but will last you your life time. Check out the reviews.
Good effort mate! Recently done my 2007 seat ibiza cupras front subframe and arms, rusty old parts for new painted parts is always great. Would love to own a MK5 GTI edition 30 myself
Just done my front control arms, same colour car too😎! I think you've bought the wrong ones as they look different, I used Lemforder 36172 01 & 36173 01
There are 2 styles of front arm, a pressed sheet steel one and a cast one. Both are interchangeable. You can also get cast alloy ones but you need to change the front knuckles.
I had to deal with a similarly rusty 2011 subframe on a Skoda in a driveway similar to you. The eccentric bolts on those lower arms were completely seized on mine, I had to cut through the bolt and through the centre of the bushing (both sides of each bushing, 4 cuts in all) using a reciprocating saw with carbide blade, then press in new bushings, new eccentric bolts etc. That was my excuse to buy recip saw and hydraulic press! Subframe also had rust holes in it (top of the rear crossmember part with folded sheet steel, not the tubular part).. So much rust, I'm getting flashbacks... EDIT: Not sure, but it might be possible to get the saw in from below with subframe still on the car. I had it off the car in my case though.
Because of the broken bolt I’m removing the subframe completely, I’ve ordered up a brand new one to fit as it’s not worth the effort putting the old one back. Also means I don’t need to bother taking out the eccentric bolts, which is a bonus as cutting them out looks like a right nightmare!
Thanks for the sub! yeah, the roads are a nightmare for keeping our cars in good condition. I've got a couple products in to combat the salt that i'll be showing in the next video.
A BIG job here. amazing how much rust on here. Why not spray it all over with wd40, leave it a while, a day or two. may make a difference. You doing a job though👍
Mk 5 seems to sust like hell had the same problem easiest way just drop the whole of the rear subframe and replace all the arms whilst of the car good luck some of those bolts are a bitch to undo siezd into the rubber bushes
The audio is a bit rubbish on this one as it was recorded on my GoPro, sadly I don't have a separate mic yet.
What’s the workshop manual programme please. Great channel and content. Just found it today.
It’s called ELSA-Win

I bet that was hard work! I got new hardware included with the new components so this hasn't worked out too pricey thankfully.

RP-90 is quality stuff, got a can after my PlusGas ran out and I’m very impressed with it.

Cheers man. Ed30’s are sweet, I’d love a set of the wheels from them for this.
@@gpi_eightynine Edition 30 wheels would look great! Whens the next video due? :)
Hopefully in a couple of days.

@@gpi_eightynineGet rust preserve on new one too mate. These cars will be worth a pretty penny in days to come like old escorts mk1 mk2 etc
Thanks for the vid. Where did you get the workshop manual from?
If you Google ‘VW ElsaWIN’ there should be a few links. There’s also a couple websites that have parts of it ripped to PDF for common jobs.
Was this a full kit that you bought?
Nice job, got youself a new sub!
England roads are not kind for our cars :)

So rusty !!
My 07 in Australia is like new !
You guys are so lucky over there with the weather. In the winter the council here use so much salt on the road and its just a recipe for rust.

That's exactly the plan, I'm working on that this week. You're absolutely right about the bolts through the bushings, they are seized tight.
