Yes, I remember this game too. We, the Irish, beat Florida State in a tough-fought game. Only to lose the following week and kill our Championship hopes.
I was there with 3 of my HS buddies. The first ever on campus ESPN College GameDay show. We got 4 tix to the game about 2 hours before kickoff. Yes, we were getting anxious. The only game I can say was better and more intense than this Game of the Century #1 vs #2 match-up that I attended in person was the 1988 Catholics vs Convicts game I was also at, #1 Miami at #4 ND. That game was just bonkers and deafening from start to finish. But this was a similar atmosphere and darn close. We ran on the field afterwards, just a crazy scene. The euphoria of a victory like that by your alma mater is hard to put into words. NO ONE IN THE MEDIA gave the Irish a chance even though ND was also 9-0 and #2 and at home. The media was calling the Criminoles "maybe the greatest team ever assembled". They wanted "good ol boy" Bobby to win his 1st NC so bad. Which is why the media jerryrigged the rankings pitifully for the Bowl Alliance NC game, ranking 1 loss FSU ahead of 1 loss ND to face # 1 Neb, even though ND HAD CLEARLY PROVEN THEY WERE THE BETTER TEAM IN THE GAME OF THE CENTURY!! What a fraud that was. Deprived ND and Lou of his 2nd NC in 6 years. Lou was never quite the same after that travesty. Thank God the game video will forever remind us who the best team in college football was in 1993.

14:05. One of the dumbest play calls in FSU football history. They tried to get too cute in this game. They thought this was the 1991 Michigan game all over again and it wasn't. They underestimated Notre Dame's speed and athleticism. Hubris at it's finest. I know Bobby Bowden was the river boat gambler but this was not the time and place for reckless play calls like this one. My other major gripe is how do you not give Warrick Dunn more touches???? He was the best player on FSU's offense besides Ward. Multiple times Ward just ignores him with green grass in front of him. He's only one of the greatest players in FSU history. Don't give him the ball or anything. ND played a better game and deserved to win that day. I wanted the rematch so badly that year in the Orange Bowl. That would have been a great year for the 4 team playoff. I would have loved to see ND and Nebraska play in the Semi-Final.
ND deserved to play in the NC game vs Nebraska. The media felt sorry for "good ol Bobby" and jerryrigged the rankings because they thought he deserved that 1st NC. I wonder what voters used as evidence that FSU was just a little bit better than Notre Dame that season. Two teams, same record, one beat the other...and the team that lost is ranked one spot ahead of the team that won?
The exact opposite argument from '89. ND had a better record than Miami (12-1 vs 11-1) against a harder schedule (7 wins over top-20 teams) and were #1 all year with 23 straight wins, but Miami won the head-to-head so they finished #1. Step #2: Be sure to mock your equally good if not better opponent before the game
Step #3: ....
Step 4: Dont lose to BC at home.😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅

GOOOOOO I R I S H ! ! ! !
@14:05 wut?
35:40. Kills me every time. Devin Bush. Pick up the ball and run with it!!!!!! I will always wonder what would have happened if he picks up that ball there. Ugh!!!!
I hate FSU but I was a fan of Tamarack Vanover. Go Cane's.
the Irish won easily
I've noticed that SteelBuck here only really posts FSU losses. Must suck to have to live vicariously through other teams since OSU has never done it.
Brilliant reply considering i've posted more FSU wins than losses, including those over Ohio State. Might want to look around a bit before making such a silly statement. As a matter of fact, i've always liked Florida State, Miami on the other hand...
@@steelbuck6777wow you hate Miami lol im disappointed
Jesus Loves You
And the outcome of this game never really mattered in the end. Notre Dame would go on to lose to Boston College, while Charlie Ward would win the Heisman Trophy and Florida State would beat Nebraska in the Orange Bowl to win the national championship.
Because ND got shafted by the media manipulating the rankings for "good ol Bobby" who they felt sorry for.
Ward was so grossly overrated. This was a decent win, for ND, but I absolutely expected it. Becton was an animal, and
FSU won the National Championship that year.
Yet they were clearly only the 2nd best team as proven on the football field, despite the poll manipulations.
@14:18 id Ward set his feet that was a TD.
Damn still sucks
Notre Dame... always attempted to intimidate opponents pre-game, but of course as a Catholic school they were always justified
3/4" Cleats and FSU rolls. No need for river boat gambler plays.
As a Charlie Ward fan I was devastated! Not Lou Holtz and the Irish upsetting my boys with Kevin McDougal as the starter!! Kevin McDougal??!!! Really?!!
So glad Boston College beat ND the next week and we were on our way to a National Championship!!!! Charlie....21-2 as a starter. Miami and ND were the only schools that beat him and the Seminoles over those 2 yrs.
McDougal was the better QB that day. Ward was throwing the ball all over the place. A travesty that the Irish got shafted by the pro Bobby media after the Irish clearly proved they were the better team by pulverizing FSU all afternoon. The tiebreaker was HEAD TO HEAD, and the media ignored this game as if it was never played. Absurd and ridiculous.
Notre Dame fans don't worry, football isn't the same anymore, so it doesn't really matter if you aren't that good.
Shouldn’t have lost to BC, and I’m a big ND fan.
ND has one of the 5 best records in the nation over the last five years. Hush.
@@lynnerose7891. But sadly no National Titles🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿
Who's your alma mater Phlegmwad? North Junction Juco?
Noacher Dom got lucky.
Boston college blasted Notre Dame a week later. It was amazing
Blasted? It was 41-39 on a lucky last second FG phlegmwad. And that was after ND had come back from 38-17 to take a 39-38 lead.
