    I worked in the quality control department of an engineering industry near Viralaimalai, Tamil nadu. I had many friends who had worked in the Royal Enfield (called enfield India those times) plant in a place called Singampunari nearby. which manufactured MOFA, the moped. That facility was closed down later. Those days , the word "Quality : was the last thing in any manager's mind. QC people were seen as enemies of production. The whole MOFA plant was closed only because of quality issues.

    For sturdy wind visor, you should use the bajaj bushings instead of re stocks, the re bushings are not good in quality and with heavy wind the rubber tears off very fast. Use DL181010 BUSHING FROM BAJAJ as they are lil better and harder so windshield stays sturdy and holds well in heavy wind or at 110_115 km/hr speed.

    You have a very keen eye for imperfections... I too cannot digest misalignment and poorly fitted parts... One more thing to check is, ride the bike and see if it has any balancing issue, make sure the bike doesn't steer to left or right, Find an empty road just hold the handle bar with loose arms without holding it firmly as if you are not holding the handle bar at all and test for steering issues. You are investing more than 2 lakhs and you have every right to test the bike you are going to purchase.

    I recently booked a Himalayan, and I'm expecting to take delivery of it in mid September, frankly I chose it ahead of the KTM 390 adventure simply because of value for money.
    After watching this video, I am thinking if I'm getting the desired quality for the money we pay. I am at a juncture where I can cancel my booking and still go for the KTM 390 adv.
    Do you recommend switching? I previously owned a TB350, although I loved the bike, I thought the quality for the money was not up to the mark

      I think issues are there but all can taken care by any local/ road side mechanic.
      This is not possible with foreign brands.
      If you are touring any remote area you can easily find RE mechanic but for KTM you need to showroom.

    The gaps in front of the handle bar clamp are no manufacturing defects but how you clamp the handlebar down to its base. Some manufacturers have them evenly spaced, on Suzukis and Husqvarnas you will find this gap at the other side facing the rider as the two forward facing screws are tightened first as per manual.

    Nice checks. Good points to notice.
    1-The rear rail is obviously diagonally welded at the end. I don't know how this even passed the inspection from vendor and then the quality inspection at RE during assembly. Clearly they don't have a reliable quality inspection system.
    2- Whoever designed the rear seat compartment is an idiot. Usually you would have some fairing there and all the pannier mounts etc are external because they are accessories. But in this case there is nothing but the tubular frame. In this case the electrical need to be buried.hidden elsewhere.
    3- About the engine, given how the said very visibly faulty rail mount passed the quality check, I wouldn't be surprised if the cylinders were warped which would be difficult to notice.
    Its a shame that such an iconic brand cannot get their shit together when there are other new companies starting up and doing much better than them without any prior industrial experience.

    Good eye and nice review. I feel some points are splitting hairs, but is it true the Royal Enfield is a premium brand in India? If so, I could see all of your points as valid. But in the the USA, you'd expect some of these fitment issues on such a lower-end budget bike. Still looks like a great product. I think other manufactures should take note of RE's price value ratio.
    As far as the bar clamps go, you want that gap to be there. It insures that all the clamping pressure goes into the bars and not into the riser. Though I believe the gap should be in the back.
    The outer frame of your rear rack looks good but it look like the forward cross brace is crooked.
    Thanks for the review.

    • @idealmechanist7524
      @idealmechanist7524  4 роки тому +1

      Yes RE is a premium brand in India but nowadays the quality seems to be reduced but the prices are always going up the hill
      I agree its a great product in certain terms only.
      The gap on th handle bar clamps should be equally distributed on either of the sides but its not. This might lead to improper load distribution.
      Rear saddle has a major alignment issue even the RE representative agreed to it and they replaced it but still the new one also has lesser amount of alignment issue

    what if I found these issues when taking the delivery? should I say no to delivery because sometimes they will say they would fix in service? please explain the necessary steps that one should do.

      Its simple ask them to rectify all the issues before delivery itself dont leave it till the first service

    • @idealmechanist7524
      @idealmechanist7524  4 роки тому +2

      They ll give nonsense reason telling it ll be solved in first service but fall prey to them, get it done and then take the delivery

    I think the ones that don't pass quality control get a Saree guard. On the plus side, you pay half what we pay for those bikes.
    Decent review - good stuff to check and watch.

    04:46 tail light is fixed with a rubber to sustain the jumps so it not a manufacturing defect, so far i have seen no one complaining.
