Royal Enfield motorcycles seriously need to update its product quality check, also the products need to be properly designed before production and last but not the least the service Center mechanics need to be properly trained!
Those quality people are intrested only about their pauoys every month and no of shares they get from compnay , not customers satisfaction , i have seen many himalayan owners are frustrated after 5 months too
I worked in the quality control department of an engineering industry near Viralaimalai, Tamil nadu. I had many friends who had worked in the Royal Enfield (called enfield India those times) plant in a place called Singampunari nearby. which manufactured MOFA, the moped. That facility was closed down later. Those days , the word "Quality : was the last thing in any manager's mind. QC people were seen as enemies of production. The whole MOFA plant was closed only because of quality issues.

You need to take this up to the Royal Enfield customer complaints! Don’t just ask the showroom rather write a mail to higher officials of Royal Enfield. You have every right to get a good product and service, don’t let it go!
this is just a beginning.. You'll discover a lot more (some are visible in video too)...I own the first ever model when it was launched and despite all the problems I faced and solved I still love this bike...RE gives you the opportunity to work on your bike so that you can grow with the company too..😆😉... Trust me it's still an awesome bike .. My odometer crossed 70000 kms ..and still going 👍🏻

Whatever you have raised the concerns are all manufacturing defects /flaws which show the evolutionary stages of the bike, I just got my Himalayan 4days back it is the same ones, I seriously suggest Mr siddharth lal hires some retired engg from Japan and German automobile firms to make it a flawless bike

This is one of the best reviews on this charm of a bike, completely agree on the faulty fuel gauge ! RE has a long way to go if it ever wants to provide the reliability of a Japanese bike.
For sturdy wind visor, you should use the bajaj bushings instead of re stocks, the re bushings are not good in quality and with heavy wind the rubber tears off very fast. Use DL181010 BUSHING FROM BAJAJ as they are lil better and harder so windshield stays sturdy and holds well in heavy wind or at 110_115 km/hr speed.
You have a very keen eye for imperfections... I too cannot digest misalignment and poorly fitted parts... I almost ruined my Desert Storm just because the mechanic from the factory didn't tighten the bolt that held the sprag clutch in place... Royal Enfield is notorious for giving customers defective products...

The vibration of the wind shield is due to the headlight touching a metal rod behind it..move your headlight angle below..it will eliminate it..I faced the same espically when I fitted the gps guard..facing the same issue with the full Guage.. however my milage is 25 to 26 only...my Jerry can also got fixed at the showroom.
UA-cam was actually made for these types genuine videos made by genuine people. But now a days it's just the upgraded and portable version of television.
I'm used to japanese machines from the 70s and early 80s , and plan on coming back to biking on a Himalayan , to be honest overall at this price range some of the annoyances are not that critical , the screen vibration , no, if your going to red line the bike to the limiter what do you expect ! I will however check all you have pointed out on delivery and complain immediately if i come across anything concerning , but i am a hands on person any small annoyances i will sort myself.

For now they have resolved engine oil leakage issue by replacing the engine itself . Other issues remain the same. They have told me that they have escalated all the issues to the head office in Chennai

I think out of your 10 points only 6th and 7th point makes sense. Rest all points are most common in all bikes. There frames are welded separately, so there are high chances that there may be some mm differences. By the way good observation.
Most of these fitment issues are just visual if you're very critical. Dont think they affect form, fit or function. I dont know if they are really out of tolerance by design.
This issue are direct from RE manufacturing factory. Final quality control team is not doing their job properly RE. My advice will be if you find 5 or more issues out of 10 mentioned, don't take delivery. Super insight by @idealmechanist
One more thing to check is, ride the bike and see if it has any balancing issue, make sure the bike doesn't steer to left or right, Find an empty road just hold the handle bar with loose arms without holding it firmly as if you are not holding the handle bar at all and test for steering issues. You are investing more than 2 lakhs and you have every right to test the bike you are going to purchase.
This happens in certain conditions. RE products are the best bang for your buck without compromising on quality. Most of the issues he's talked about is minor and can be easily fixed. Stop bitching about small issues.
It's probably the cheapest adventure bike on the market so quality and finish is not going to be the same as others that are 4 or 5 times more expensive. You get what you pay for but having said that, the Himalayan is a great looking motorbike.
This is no excuse for the endemic quality issues with RE. And it is not as cheap as people make it out to be. They are able to sustain the price through economy of scale and cheaper labour in India.

I recently booked a Himalayan, and I'm expecting to take delivery of it in mid September, frankly I chose it ahead of the KTM 390 adventure simply because of value for money. After watching this video, I am thinking if I'm getting the desired quality for the money we pay. I am at a juncture where I can cancel my booking and still go for the KTM 390 adv. Do you recommend switching? I previously owned a TB350, although I loved the bike, I thought the quality for the money was not up to the mark
I think issues are there but all can taken care by any local/ road side mechanic. This is not possible with foreign brands. If you are touring any remote area you can easily find RE mechanic but for KTM you need to showroom. But both the bikes have much price difference. Take what you can afford and what you like.
KTM is not a adventure tourer according to me because you dont get that ride quality in KTM so go for Himalayan itself but just ensure you check all the points before delivery
The gaps in front of the handle bar clamp are no manufacturing defects but how you clamp the handlebar down to its base. Some manufacturers have them evenly spaced, on Suzukis and Husqvarnas you will find this gap at the other side facing the rider as the two forward facing screws are tightened first as per manual.
Is this is a good first bike? I'm 28, 5' 8 and I am learning to ride a bike. I thought I could get an Interceptor because but after riding a 125cc, I feel like Interceptor maybe a little too powerful for a novice. Any advice? Biking for me is a hobby, a joyride, a feel of the air and the freedom and I want something to suits that. Is this is good option?

Nice checks. Good points to notice. 1-The rear rail is obviously diagonally welded at the end. I don't know how this even passed the inspection from vendor and then the quality inspection at RE during assembly. Clearly they don't have a reliable quality inspection system. 2- Whoever designed the rear seat compartment is an idiot. Usually you would have some fairing there and all the pannier mounts etc are external because they are accessories. But in this case there is nothing but the tubular frame. In this case the electrical need to be buried.hidden elsewhere. 3- About the engine, given how the said very visibly faulty rail mount passed the quality check, I wouldn't be surprised if the cylinders were warped which would be difficult to notice. Its a shame that such an iconic brand cannot get their shit together when there are other new companies starting up and doing much better than them without any prior industrial experience.
Good eye and nice review. I feel some points are splitting hairs, but is it true the Royal Enfield is a premium brand in India? If so, I could see all of your points as valid. But in the the USA, you'd expect some of these fitment issues on such a lower-end budget bike. Still looks like a great product. I think other manufactures should take note of RE's price value ratio. As far as the bar clamps go, you want that gap to be there. It insures that all the clamping pressure goes into the bars and not into the riser. Though I believe the gap should be in the back. The outer frame of your rear rack looks good but it look like the forward cross brace is crooked. Thanks for the review.
Yes RE is a premium brand in India but nowadays the quality seems to be reduced but the prices are always going up the hill I agree its a great product in certain terms only. The gap on th handle bar clamps should be equally distributed on either of the sides but its not. This might lead to improper load distribution. Rear saddle has a major alignment issue even the RE representative agreed to it and they replaced it but still the new one also has lesser amount of alignment issue
what if I found these issues when taking the delivery? should I say no to delivery because sometimes they will say they would fix in service? please explain the necessary steps that one should do.
I think the ones that don't pass quality control get a Saree guard. On the plus side, you pay half what we pay for those bikes. Decent review - good stuff to check and watch.
I see since you have uploaded this video it's been 7 months, apart from. These recent after seeing a video in youtube I checked on my bike bs6 himalayan that does has the right side pull when I leave the handle bar. And it does goes to the right. Have you faced the same issue? And if yes how did you fixed it

Its not just the gap there is a alignment problem with the holders between the top and bottom

The gap on th handle bar clamps should be equally distributed on either of the sides but its not. This might lead to improper load distribution.
Rear saddle has a major alignment issue even the RE representative agreed to it and they replaced it but still the new one also has lesser amount of alignment issue

what if I found these issues when taking the delivery? should I say no to delivery because sometimes they will say they would fix in service? please explain the necessary steps that one should do.
Its simple ask them to rectify all the issues before delivery itself dont leave it till the first service
They ll give nonsense reason telling it ll be solved in first service but fall prey to them, get it done and then take the delivery

I see since you have uploaded this video it's been 7 months, apart from. These recent after seeing a video in youtube I checked on my bike bs6 himalayan that does has the right side pull when I leave the handle bar. And it does goes to the right.

04:46 tail light is fixed with a rubber to sustain the jumps so it not a manufacturing defect, so far i have seen no one complaining.
