Leo Sayer is possibly one of Britains finest performers, and yet was most under rated, this song along with the show must go on, are lyrical masterpieces, and Leo's performance tells the story perfectly.
***** Agreed. There's more than a touch of genius in both the songwriting and delivery. Not untypically for such an exceptional British talent, he ultimately got a raw deal, and Britain has probably lost him forever to Australia.
***** couldn't argree more. I grew up with him, and this was in Denmark, with danish parents :)
Yes indeed. At that time he was simply brilliant.....I loved him, but he was overshadowed by the "Big Rock Bands" he had no chance at that time.
Lyrical Masterpieces....absolutely....brilliant presentation.....Just did not hit the the niche at the right time....A tragedy I'd say. ....Given better, balanced TV coverage, he'd have been one of the unforgetables of Britain.
But hey: That's just the way it goes. Like a long stem Rose. Everybody knows.
He wasn't underrated to begin with in the early to mid seventies (a fabulous time by the way, not anything like neo-liberal propaganda would have you believe)he made some fantastic music that still sounds as good today,in my opinion,as it did then.I haven't seen or heard him for a while but I hope he is fit and well.
What an entertainer, pure class. Very Underrated despite his success.
This man is on higher ground. A brilliant performer.
Leo Sayer, one of the most underrated performers of all time.
True. I am 51 and so much of the soundtrack of the first decade of my life belongs to him
Pure genius. Leo Sayer (and a few others - Cat Stevens, Mud, Racey) gave my unhappy and troublesome childhood moments of joy with uplifting tunes. Leo was different, a real poet and interpreter.
Loved his song “When I Need You” back in the 1970s.
If I only had a time machine. This performance would be one of my pit stops!
Love you, Leo Sayer!
I have had that lyric in my head for forty years, pure genius!!

*_"So hey there mister don't you look so sad Don't look so ill at ease"_*
*_"I can play you any song you chose To cheer up the life you lead"_*
Me too...
It's a strange world 😊
This man has such a good voice
wish I could hang out with all the fans here, cant seem to find people in real life that actually get the magnitude of this talent...bravo Leo and friends.
I saw Leo at Ebbets Field, a nightclub that sat 250 in Denver Colorado,in 1973. He preformed in the clown suit and was simply amazing. He opened for The Climax Blues Band. Both were relatively unknown in the States at the time. How lucky at 17 years old was I ?
When I Need You was mine and my first loves song.I was 14 and she was 13 when we met and we splir up in our 20's. Ive never stopped loving her dont think i will meet anyone like her again. Anyway this wasnt a pity party i was going to point out that Leo is ao underrated and most people over a certain age will only remember him for his Big Brother appearance. Which is so wrong. Ive had many a smoochy night on the sofa listening to you so Leo thank you ❤
Funnily enough he didn’t write that one, that was written by Albert Hammond ( who also wrote a few other hits such as “It never rains in California and “Free electric band” he also co-wrote Starship’s hit “Nothing’s Gonna Stop us Now” however his version is still the “go to”
This performance is the second best song ever performed, the best performance is The Show Must Go On from Leo in the same concert - his voice is indescribably amazing!
When I was so depressed as a teenager, I listened to this 45 over and over again. I was 19.
I lived and breathed this song - listening to it over and over and over again - as a young man. I had very few friends, but I did have a multi-track tape recorder. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Leo.
Thanks Mr Sayer your voice I'd phenomenal ❤ send performer this song 🎵 👌 happy happy happy
Older dude, Vietnam vet, yes I have been a one man band... been a long journey..
If you have family, enjoy...more precious than all the gold, diamonds, silver, platinum ...
Live you life full..
Thank you for your service and the sound advice. May you experience our Creator's peace and blessings the rest of your journey, and know that we are never truly alone. God bless you sir.
Going to see leo for his 75th birthday show tonight.
What an incredible man. What incredible music.
Thanks for the tunes Mr Sayer, and happy bday❤🎉
He's such an underrated vocalist.
I saw Leo in concert in the late seventies and again about seven years ago. He still sounded and performed in exactly the same way in the latter concert, even though he was approaching his seventies! I am still a huge fan, still listen to his music.
I remember meeting Leo and his friend Hair bear doing a charity gig for Children in Need. Nutters, but good hearted people.
His voice is so wonderful. He makes the lyrics live!
74 and still listening
I’m so glad he made Australia his home. Xxx
He wrote the best song of all time giving it all away over 45 years later me kids play it n me grandkids now sing it Leo you are class great live performer to
My husband introduced me to this amazing singer! Beautiful!
He is , in my eyes one of the best artists who ever lived, for so many reasons. One is it shows in his performance that his whole soul is in his songs.
Massively underrated
Never get tired of listening to this classic, a musical masterpiece
great voice bring backs tons of memories
Went to see in November 2022 with my 17yr old best concert we’ve been to!!
What a gift to have such an amazing voice and sing so effortlessly. A fan for 40+ years. Probably one of the best top 5 male "singers" (not vocalists) of all time.
I basically grew up on Leo Sayer here in Nigeria. I started collecting his tapes even as a12 year old.
I heard some of Leo's music during my teenage years, You Make Me Feel Like Dancing, When I Need You.....it was just during the last couple of years that I have discovered how talented he really is, thanks to You Tube
@@donnasue9165 im right with u on that donna. Leo always went under the radar musicaly. This is a great track, and to think he wrote it for roger daltrey, 1 of my fav singer and performer.
Saw him in concert in 78 at the Civic in Wolverhampton, great live performer, very very very under rated artist.
I went to a Leo Sayer concert at university in the early 1970s. This song is first class. Creativity and an open heart.

I think someone else said on here that if they had a time machine, this is a show they'd travel back to. I agree, Leo Sayer is so underrated it's criminal.

This man is so underrated
From someone who loves Bowie, Beatles, House and reggae music
Very cool songs clap clap
saw him last year in Manchester. One of the greatest experiences ever.
Listen, I have never really paid much attention to Leo Sayer before. Yes I remember hearing "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" as kid, but it is a revelation to see him perform. He is truly an amazing talent with an amazing presence on the stage. He communicates so much more than just with his voice. He is a complete package. I think I appreciate so much more the years in which I grew up now, than I ever did living them.
We saw L/S at Buxton Opera House about 18 months ago, still has it and only his songs. Well worth a watch.
i remember being 12 years old and in a boys home ,this song was put on the school jukebox it costs tuppence to play a record ,i spent all my pocket money playing this over and over boring everybody stupid , loved it then and still love it today and im 53
Leo was a great experience and he was so good I took my family to see him twice in one day at Westbury music fair,

Leo Sayer is an all around entertainer. I really enjoy his early music.
Git his album way back in 70s " Endless Flight".
Guess what I still play it, thanks Leo, talented man.
I'm extremely saddened by the fact that I'm 41 and barely discovering this genius.
You know what, I'm happy that I have.
Pick up the ENDLESS FLIGHT album. So good! So glad I saw Leo Sayer "Live" in his prime ... early 1980's. Superb performer and underrated songwriter. Enjoy ... you've discovered him now!
I'm 54 & I had wicked hippie parents. I know all kinds of music but I'm dumb as a rock. Happy as hell tho :)

Leo Sayer, Brilliant artiste - What more needs to be said ???
Only discovering Leo Sayer now! Literally yesterday! What a musician and artist. Maybe 2021 won't be too bad after all. Thank you so much for uploading this.
me too, literally i might have found this awesome artist at the perfect time 🥺
A most wonderful musical artist and totally underrated!!!
Brilliant stuff! In these days of processed vocals and pitch correction it's so nice to hear a singer with an honest-to-god set of pipes cutting loose. We really were spoiled for great singers in the seventies.
A legend in the 70ties
Leo is awesome. And 70's music will always been the best. Nothing like it. So many great talents.
Leo is a perfect example of showing when you do good work, eventually people will notice
Back again. It will be a sad day if they ever remove his videos. Never gets old. 😊
What a story teller. Amazing performance.
QUE TEMAZO POR FAVOR !!!!!!!!!!!! ME CANSE DE PASARLO EN EVENTOS Y DE BAILARLO COMO ROCK EN EL BOLICHE HERMOSO DE BOMBEROS DE SAN MARTIN !!!!!!!!!! BUENOS AIRES !!!!!!!!!!!! SE ME CAEN LAS LAGRIMAS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BELLOS MOMENTOS DE MI ADOLESCENCIA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOLO 15 AÑOS !!!!!!!!!!!
Went to see him back in the early 80's, have to say he was a great entertainer and really brought the audience along with him.
I did too! He was a great performer, as well as Songwriter and singer.
I saw this guy at the Trenton War Memorial. He was the opener for ELO. Good Show...Great voice. Years ahead of his time. Clown suits rule.
This is my song. One man band in life.
Grew up in the 70s, Leo was played in all the good clubs. Great singer, performer & writer.
I was just sitting, thinking of a new song I could add to my repertoire as a solo performer and this hit me. What a cool song...happy. tells a short story. Thanks Leo!
a musical genius in my eyes also not heard anything that rivals his performances
One of the most underrated song writers singers ever brilliant
IM SEEING HIM LIVE NEXT MONTH!!! IM SO EXCITED! 😍
He gives the piano player an approving glance.
the good ole days....thanks for posting...loved Leo's music then and...now.
I love the way he tells a story with his amazing voice.
An iconic performer, he typifies what the 70s was all about, a superb talent with a repretoire of classic songs...
Patrick (Ireland)
I love this track. It takes me back to another time
Great stuff. This brings back so many memories. The really great thing is that Leo is still performing. He emigrated to Australia a few years ago & still tours the clubs, in fact, i'm off to see him live in a couple of weeks. I hope he does this one.
An absolute Masterpiece!
BlueBoy, Leo Sayer has a channel listed with his birth name, GERARD SAYER. He STILL SOUNDS GREAT ! Have A BLESSED DAY. 😎
Älskade den då och älskar den nu! Tack!
I’ve watched some great bands, The Alarm, The Manics, Muse , Tom McRae, Future Islands, Levellers, loads but that gig which I was dragged to on behalf of my friends was the best night ever, what a songsmith, brill beyond clean pants
Wow this song brings back so many memories 55 now was 12 and in a boarding school in 1974 when this song was put on the school jukebox used to be tuppence to play a record ,.i drove them mad with this song played it all the time loved it then still do , and we have Leo coming my hometown Leamington spa in June, must go well be rude not to

Such a talent xxxxxxxx
These are the real pop performers. Bring back real music anyday .
?leo is one of the few left and still going strong ? Still go to his concerts anyday bring it on leo...
I agree with you, I loved he's music, he seemed to just fade away from the public eye, my late brother knew him, which made a difference as you got what the song's ment to him
My favourite solo artists of the 70’s ..loved all 70’s music but Leo Sayer had some of the best hits of the decade ..prolific hit maker but very underrated
