This was such good information. How wonderful to hear from your mother and grandmother about the characteristics of your hair. I think we forget not all products are for everyone. I never met my biological paternal grandmother, but I understand I have her hair. Super soft and cottony, curly/coily fine strands, and frizz prone. I LOVE wash and goes, but my hair absolutely hates it. 😢 So I wear twists and wash/redo every 7-9 days. It’s a sacrifice from what I want, but WOW, my hair is thriving big time and growing damn near an inch a month. ❤ Loved this content. 🥰

I'm just like you and prone to acne on my face and back also. I can't leave any oil on my scalp, max 6 hours then it starts to hurt, feels weird, irritate and then the acne comes. Have to wash my hair every 7-10 days. Any serum I use is water based. If I use oil it's as a treatment and is washed off same or next day. Thanks for sharing. ❤

You don't need to consider options that change your desire to continue wearing your curls. Even though sensitive skin and scent sensitivity run in your family. Each of those who came before you figured out ways to handle it for their personal style choices. You are doing a great job of figuring out how to do the same. Keep moving forward! You've got this!💜
I've had to figure out a few things over the last year after being diagnosed with CCCA. I was determined to keep my length and fight the disorder. I have to shampoo every 3 - 4 days and sometimes more frequently. So far so good. I'm maintaining and, thank God, I don't have any bald spots and still have my length. Growth is slower, but I'm okay with that.

Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. I’m so happy that so far the frequent washing is working for you. Hopefully I figure things out to make the frequent washing process faster and more gentle.

Miss Mississippi has to wash her hair more often because she uses way too much grease. She gets horrible scalp dandruff that looks like seborrheic dermatitis.

Hello Joy! Hopefully, she is using just enough grease. At least washing often is working for her. Lastly, medical assumptions from what we see online can be dicey.

When I was young my mom would only shampoo our hair and no conditioner and we would press our hair with royal crown about once a month. As an adult I wear my hair in its natural state. I shampoo, condition, leave-in and a styling cream then air dry. My hair would feel so dry. Now I shampoo, condition and use a leave-in or styling cream, blow dry or dryer. My hair has improved. Now I said that I was going to eliminate the conditioner to see how my hair feel but I was afraid to try. Now that I hear your grandma do not use conditioner I may give it a try. My scalp sometimes get a large bump or two from one of my products I believe but not sure. I may experiment to see if I can find out the problem. I believe my skin is sensitive to too many products.

Woah woah woah don’t eliminate the conditioner just yet! Have you considered a conditioner with a lower amount of oils and butters or that has lighter oils and butters?

You may also want to see a dermatologist, both my mom and grandmother have.

@@FoAdunni Thank you for your suggestion to see a dermatologist. My daughter said the exact same thing. I may just do that.

@@FoAdunni I grew up not using conditioner but we pressed our hair. I will be careful. If I notice extreme dryness and breakage then I will know that I need to condition regularly. I do plan to use a deep conditioner as needed regardless of eliminating regular conditioner. It is just that I notice the less product that I use the better my scalp and hair feels.
