I was glad to get a look at this access point... I have wanted to try it but was concerned. I paddle solo and am a senior woman so if the current was too strong I would be unable to get back up the river... the alders also would make almost impossible to turn around or line up the bank... thanks for sharing... I too suffer from episodic back pain at times debilitating. One of my worries is that I might get stuck somewhere because of my back. I had to give up my hammock as it exacerbated my pain. Now using sea to summit Ether Light wide mattress and a tent ... my back is much happier. Good luck
Glad you found the video useful! I don't think you would have any trouble with the river current at low water/mid summer. The alders at the beginning are certainly intimidating. When solo its always better to be safe and there are so many excellent entry points to the park. Glad you found a sleep solution that allows you to keep getting out there, paddling season is creeping up on us again!
Thanks for this video, I'm heading to NRL next week and it's nice to get some route and campsite intel! Just one thing -- I think you slightly misinterpreted JeffsMap when you referred to "the bay that's marked as having fish". JeffsMap didn't mark individual bays as having fish or not, it just put symbols on each lake for what fish species are on record as being there. For North River Lake he happened to put the species symbol on South Bay just for the sake of visual space, I don't think that's intended to suggest that that's where the trout hang out. Anyway, hope your back is feeling better these days, and I'll keep my eyes open for moose.
Hey Dan, you are correct about Jeff’s maps, I am aware of it but when I first started using the map I wasn’t and was more trying to describe where on the lake I was, when talking to buddy’s I trip with we say where the fish are meaning on the map… anyway hope you have a great trip, I really enjoyed what little I saw from this access lake. I am heading out next week myself and I have a feeling this next work week is gonna feel really long! My back is fine, done many trips since this video, I got some weird infection and had a fever for 4-5 days after this trip but been all good ever since.
Thanks Jay! Feeling alot better, just did an easy "test" 4 day trip to Booth lake recently and felt pretty good, hopefully will get out for 1 or 2 more trips this year!
Awesome video! I have not seen anything from this part of the park so thank you for sharing! Sorry that your trip was cut short but hopefully you made a quick recovery!
Hi Michelle! Glad you enjoyed it, beautiful area and I am sure I’ll return to see more of it one day. The back pain turned into a fever but after a week or 2 I was basically back to normal... now I am just waiting out winter looking forward to an ice out trip!
Hi Kevin, I haven’t yet, my friend Marc wants to do a trip there eventually, my main hesitation from the videos I’ve watched is how many cottages there are... could just be our skirt lakes or I’ve gotten unlucky with my video selections... I am sure I’ll trip there sometime soon to give it a shot!
@@jmullin I go there all the time got a sweet spot to launch, private on the head river . Two swift packs boats as well. You ever want to go just say the word.
Enjoyed the video. Glad you were able to get out in spite of your back. I loved that creek with all the alders closing in. Looks like a well used lake in spite of the remote access.
What about low water level river depth. Do you think that path walkable? Cant rent canoe for next weekend will go on my inflatable vessel and wanna avoid blowout. Will use my rubber pants for towing. Thanks
Hi Denys, I have only been there this one time so take my advise with a grain of salt. I THINK you would be ok for most it, there are beaver dams keeping water levels to a certain level and the bottom parts I stepped on were ok for walking. Most of the river that leads to the lake you could easily walk next to the boat along the shore. The only problem I would worry about in an inflatable is the very start while your in deep alders. I don’t think normal alder branches would puncture a good quality inflatable but some of the thicker branches that have been broken or cut can have sharper edges. Would take my time and be careful through that part. Good luck!
As your title card says "Inspirational Sh*t since 2015" I love the Eureka set up you've rigged up. The permanent ridge line is a great idea. A little closer up detail of how you've done this would be great...just sayin'. Hope the back feels better.
So true, luckily I haven't hit any truly impassable sections but I've seen videos of people going through areas like Birchcliffe creek that have the saw the alders as they go!

Hey, Jonathan have you ever gone to the Queen Elizabeth Wildlands?

@@WoodenNickles Very cool man! Thanks for the offer! If I decide to hit the QE2W I might take you up on that!

Thanks Dan, ya I really enjoyed the alder creek section too, tight enough to be fun but not impassable.

Thanks for sharing the sweet vid. What site number did you stay at?
The sites aren’t numbered but it was the site looking out on South Bay of North River lake, second closest site to the portage to Merganser lake.
Looks like it was a nice lake though,
Agreed, nice size, not huge, not tiny, coves and narrows... decent access point overall.
Noice Work
Thanks Jon!

Thanks man, hoping to get a trip in in the next couple weeks, Ill try and film the details of the Eureka setup in more detail!
Some of those alders seem impenetrable as you approach. It looks like you're on the Amazon river in the darkest depths of Guyana.
