Christa, Doug here-guy(58 today, Wednesday November 9th) I have created a "grampa squares" blanket. When done, I'll send you a photo of it. Show it to your viewers, if they like it(not just because I am a guy) I have a feeling that my 7" squares may not be squarely square! It's navy blue with lemon yellow center's! With 7 squares in a light blue surround. Maybe we can raffle it off, with the funds gained from it, going to a good cause! I'm left handed, and, I crochet left handedly (left to right, backwards) I will need to practice the "granny triple stitch" before I even ATTEMPT a granny square blanket! Doug🧸🐻🤓🦍
I like you Christa. When I work on a big project I do crochet smaller projects every few days. This way I don’t get burnt out on the big project. It keeps me motivated and I get small projects finished❤
When I'm on a big project, I find something I really want to make, buy the yarn for it and then tell myself I can't start it until my big project is done. The anticipation keeps me going.
I never work in one project, always multiple projects at the same time even if they are all big project Also watching videos about crochet to feel like I am in the same mood❤❤
You have really made a difference in my granny square game by teaching about turning my work. Thank you so much ❤. Also love your color choices so much!!!
Christa I can hardly wait to try your Daisy Granny Square afghan. I know I've missed quite a lot of your video's but I'll make it by over the ones I haven't seen. Keep up the good work. Your energy ✨️ is so charismatic and energize us fans to keep going.
The big project motivation requires a break in the middle, with some much needed instant gratification. Whether knit or crochet, taking a break and completing a smaller or quicker project helps regain focus and drive to push through the larger project . Christa has some great small projects that move quickly, and she has tips and tricks to break them into smaller, manageable steps to keep motivated. In today’s video, she showed how the many log cabin granny squares are being completed one color at a time, giving an instant surge of accomplishment with each completed color.
I have to remind myself who I am making my big project for and that usually helps me keep going. But sometimes I have to stop and do a small project to appreciate what I was doing before. I usually watch crochet tutorials or your chats/podcasts while crocheting to trick me into not realizing how long I've been working on it lol or I'll listen to the tv
It's all about the colours for me. I need to be in love with the colours and then I am inspired. Much harder to do commission work if not in love with it....🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
If a large project (like a blanket) is for family or a friend, thinking of them opening their gift motivates me a lot. I find crocheting large gifts in smaller pieces (like Granny Squares) and stitching them together easier for me to tackle than one solid crochet blanket (like Corner-to-Corner). Can’t wait to see your purple granny-square blanket with daisies tutorial! It’s beautiful! Thanks for your fun videos, Christa. 🧶
Hi Christa oh my goodness your so creative I love the granny square blanket.i agree with you about turning.it does make a difference.glad your little one was okay ..thanks so much Christa you always make my day.love the shawl gorgeous..💝💝💝
Hi Christa, just finished the spiral blanket and it was fun. Had never made a granny square but it came out great because of your great directions. Now I’m making a granny square blanket.
I need those two shrugs in my life... that's motivating me to finish my current big project. Seriously though, I stay motivated in similar ways to you, watching videos on UA-cam, shows or movies, or even just listening to music that sets a nice mood.
I am like you used to be with keeping the rows always on the right side, but I agree that your squares where you turned your work gives a better result. Now I just have to learn how to let go of what I’ve been doing for 58 years!
I pretty much stay motivated the same way you do - I’ll do small, instant gratification projects in between while working on it. And , I’ll listen to a really good audiobook. I find that if I’m watching tv, I make a lot of mistakes and have to frog them, so audiobooks are a better choice for me.
In answer to you question - nothing! I just keep going on my big projects until I don’t 😅😅. I hope that eventually I will go back and finish those projects. As you can imagine I have a lot of WIPS 😂😂😂
I can make the best progress with my big projects if I always proceed in pre-planned stages, not too big steps. At the beginning, when I still have momentum and enthusiasm, I don't plan, but when I get tired of it, I still make some progress with it every day or every other day, but I say to myself: today, all you have to do with it, is to use the turquoise yarn and make one row on 10 granny squares, and you're done (this was specifically my program today, I'm working on a big granny blanket). Afterwards, I deal with other, smaller projects, recently I like to crochet socks, for example. (cheers from France)
To keep motivated on a big project I set a goal of balls or time per week and have a thermometer chart that I cross of my accomplishment when I finish each week and also give myself extra time to finish it than what I need. I try to finish a month ahead of time just in case life happens 😉
Hi Christa,My favourites are the shawl and beach bag that would make a great pillow. The shrug would be great for cool mornings with your first cup of coffee, like a bed jacket.
Hi Christa. I always have several big projects going, lol. What helps me is to also have a couple smaller ones going as well. I can alternate so I don't get bored or frustrated. Once the small one is finished, I feel like I am getting somewhere and not back peddling.
I heard you mention the turning-granny-square work last week. What you said sort of made sense, but your show-n-tell here just seals the deal!! Especially the demo of the rainbow squares....curling edges vs not. And reversibility is a great plus. Thanks for this great tip...my winter grannies will be turned!!!
When I’m working on a big project and getting bored with it, changing colors will invigorate me. I love colors. I will also take a breather and do something small and quick, baskets are a go to because they can be done in one sitting.
Hi Christa! I also have to break up a large project with smaller projects. However, I keep my motivation by thinking about the joy on someone's face when I gift it to them❤️. Much love 💓 TTFN
To keep my motivation is to keep going! Then I get to start a new one but only once I’m done. Plus my big ones are generally a gift so I have a timeline.
I'm almost afraid to admit what I do when working on a big project that makes me not want to stop. I listen to my favorite music which is Buck Owens and George Strait and I make sure I have a cup of coffee next to me along with a cold drink as well. That keeps me content for hours when working on a large project. During the Christmas season if I am working on a large project I will either listen to some Classic Country music or watch a Cary Grant, Fred Astaire or John Wayne movie.
My project motivation is changing colors and to see where I'm at. I get tickle pink went I'm close to finish ! I've made 9 blankets this year and working on 4 more. Sorry I didn't get to watch live but I had to have PET scan and waiting to see if my cancer has return...hope and pray it haven't. Always nice to see you Podcast.😃
Oh please do a tutorial on the last shawl you showed in your stack in the back! That’s exactly what I’ve been looking for. It’s gorgeous! Love all your videos.
I always have a few projects going at a time. But when it starts to drag I just make a point to work on it at least once a week while working on other exciting things.
I keep motivated by making a deadline to complete the project. By doing so, I can plan out the the timeline for working in the project without getting bored or developing pain in my wrist or hands
I like turning the work. For a big project I also try to add smaller projects in between and to finish it I also focus on who I am making it for. For the pain in the wrist and hand I use my carpral tunnel brace.
I also turn my work. I usually have 4-5 WIPs going so that if I get bored or frustrated with a WIP, I more on. Oh I would love a pattern for the shoulder shrug. the shawl is so pretty
Hello Christa, so glad all was well or okay for now with your child. When I'm working on a large project I try to do it in sections and just push through it. Thank you for the visual on the granny squares, I agree I like them much better when they are turned. You are always an inspiration with your projects and color combinations, just love it all. Have a great day
I usually break it up and make a bit of a schedule while working on some other small projects in between. I also motivate myself by looking at other projects that I really want to do but won't let myself start it until this one is finished.
Love all the pretty makes from the stack in the back. You’ve given me a few ideas for future projects. When working on a big crochet project I will keep it beside the couch and work on it while watching TV. If I find I really need a break from it I’ll work on little projects like a hat or a dish scrubby.
Great explanation and show and tell about why we should turn our work. WTG, g-fren!!! My answer is the QOTW is the same of yours - more projects and projects of different sizes. Love ❤️ and hugs 🤗!
I only crochet things for donation - nearly always blankets. I am a ‘bigamist’ and tend to have 2 on the go at any one time - I use different colours for each. 1 will be a giant square or rectangle and 1 will be in smaller squares joined together. I get very anxious if I have lots of unfinished objects hanging around and then I don’t know what to do. So for me, two is the magic method. Jinny - UK
Yup, I discovered that though usually my tension is even, my granny square always leaned to one side. And I started turning the work too after each round.
I really like the shawl at the end. I like how big and flowy it is. Please do a tutorial. I also like the granny square sweater! It's really nice, although I'm on the fluffy side 😂 not sure it would be too flattering on me. Who cares! Right! 😊
I just avoid big projects lol😂 I know I do not have the personality for bigger projects. I also prop my arm when I crochet. Usually it is propped up on my pug-GusGus. I’m thinking of turning your daisy blanket into a bag.
I’m so glad I learned from your granny tutorial where you turned your work. I just finished a king size granny! I also love those box lines that turning your work makes and that it looks good from both sides. 🥰 To stay motivated I watch tv or 😅talk on the phone while I crochet by using ear pods so I don’t have to hold the phone.
Hi Christa. I always always colplete a project before i move on to another one. I finished 2 king size masaic blankets. A lot of work. I keep the end product in mind and just push through. But my love for yarn and crochet helps a lot.
I have a big project and a small project going at the same time. I used to have 20 projects going and never finished anything, I couldn't remember what they all were so I turned over a new leaf.
Hi Christa. Thank you for everything you do for us. I mainly crochet 1 metre square blankets for a mission hospital. I guess I'm a little different to some as I finish one before starting the next one. To motivate myself, I will look out the next set of colours. I try to crochet everyday.
Hi Christa, I have to give myself enough time to finish a big project because I intersperse with small, easy, fun projects and work back and forth. Thanks for the tips on the granny squares. Can’t wait to make the purple blanket, not in purple😂!!!
Hi Christa great podcast, like you I must have a smaller project or be watching something on TV or phone to keep me motivated while I'm working on a big project. Definitely please would love to see a sparkling Christmas table runner tutorial. Thankyou for all you do.
I just finished the spiral blanket with a 2 wight cotton(call me crazy) super easy was one of the best blankets I have made so far blues and greens for my boy thanks so much! You keep my corjoe going!
I agree that turning definitely was an improvement. I love the purple Daisy blanket! As for cleaning the hooks, do you not worry that getting them wet will make the sleeve on the hook become loose? With just about any crochet project, once I start it, if I like it, I don't want to stop until it's finished. So it's not really hard to stay motivated. I'm one of those "one more row" (or 2 or 10 or 100) people! haha
Hi, Mellody M!! Thank you! Never had a problem with the hook becoming loose... although I DO have a 5 milly that has a smudge of movement... but it was my first clover 5 milly, so figure it was due to milage! lol 🌻🌺🌼
I would love to make that table runner for Christmas. I have seen something similar but the tutorials are not great. Please put it on your sooner rather than later list. Tia🙂
I’ll make a game out of bigger projects, how many rows I can do in a specific amount of time. But I definitely break up my big projects with little ones. Especially right now, I was crocheting so many 8x8 granny squares that it was causing my middle fingers to lock up.
I, too, have to have a couple smaller things to jump to in between a large project! Right now I'm working on a poncho for myself (rather large because I am almost 28 weeks pregnant!), so I've taken breaks from it by crocheting my daughter a beautiful brand new Christmas stocking and I'm planning to make several crochet ornaments for our tree this year! I love the instant gratification of completing a project (or two!) in one day. 💕
I usually prefer bigger crochet projects as I like the process, but not a fan of starting or finishing projects! I love my Hug Shrugs as I crocheted 2 of them which I usually wear in Spring & Autumn. I'm glad the surgery isn't needed at this stage. I absolutely love the colours in your purple daisy granny blanket, but unfortunately it would clash with furniture in our house. Thanks for another great Podcast, Christa! 🥰 Blessings from South Australia💕🐨
I have been looking for that exact pattern on your tote bag to make a blanket and haven’t been able to find it. I would love to see a pillow tutorial ❤❤❤
I like to dream and plan about the next project while I'm working on a large simple project...What colors, where I will find the yarn, who will it be for, and what pattern will I use). I also have a travel-at work project (like a hat) and a fast project with bulky yarn (like a basket). I switch between the projects depending on how I feel. Also my hand gets a change between thread crochet and bulky yarn. Have you designed a floor or project basket? I'd love to see one! I would also follow the last shawl tutorial or pattern. Gorgeous!
Don't have unfinished stuff I work on one thing at a time I have a blanket going on right now and I work on it everyday until it's done I'd like to see the finished product thank you so much
Oh I am so glad, Tammy Lynn! Thank you!! There is more Kenya type content on my other channel: TSY Afterparty! It's here: ua-cam.com/users/TSYAfterparty 🌸🌼🌺
Good morning very interesting about turning your work would you mind doing a tutorial about turning your work and that join as you go so very pretty your work. From Newfoundland Canada
For me, I definitely need to also break up large projects with small projects Sometimes they aren't even crochet projects (GASP!) Sometimes it helps to do something else bc it engages different muscles as you spoke about. It means more WIPS, but what's one more WIP? Thanks for your great idea about the television show and keeping the hook moving. Love you and your channel!
hiya christa! wonky work makes me crazy! the spiral is still on my to-do list. qotw: i'll do cross stitch, small crochet projects, changing colors/yarn type for another project... my tv is nearly always on so that helps too! YAY for stack in the back. jeepers, that shawl is stunning...tutorial please. xoxo
My motivation on large projects is just enjoy the motion process and not think about the project also do a few small in between ones. Christa I have a question 1. Could You Please show how you made the yarn you got from Wal-Mart fit in with the ice yarn scape. I was shocked when you got the yam cause I'm so expected you get ice yarn. 💋💜🐶stay safe and huge hugs my friend
Hi, Jane Benning!! Absolutely! It's still sitting on my couch... not sure if you can see it in the video, but I still have to put it away! LOL I'll definitely let you know how I do it! Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼

That's awesome, Douglas Radowick! Great idea! Can't wait to see it!!! Thank you!! 🌸👍🌺

Thanks for visually sharing the difference between turning your work and not turning your work. That really makes a difference. :)
I like you Christa. When I work on a big project I do crochet smaller projects every few days. This way I don’t get burnt out on the big project. It keeps me motivated and I get small projects finished❤

That's great, Melissa Miller! Thank you!! 🌸👍🌺

Yup, I discovered that though usually my tension is even, my granny square always leaned to one side. And I started turning the work too after each round.
Thank you, A.GEORGE! 🌈🌼🌸
I really like the shawl at the end. I like how big and flowy it is. Please do a tutorial. I also like the granny square sweater! It's really nice, although I'm on the fluffy side 😂 not sure it would be too flattering on me. Who cares! Right! 😊
Oh thank you so much, Nancy Fink! ha ha ha You're awesome! 🌺🌻🌸
Like you, I have to have a small project on the go too. Breaks up the monotony.
I agree Nancy Steele! 👍 Thank you! 🌺🌻🌸
I just avoid big projects lol😂 I know I do not have the personality for bigger projects. I also prop my arm when I crochet. Usually it is propped up on my pug-GusGus. I’m thinking of turning your daisy blanket into a bag.
That's awesome, Leslie Thurman! Thank you!! 🌸👍🌺
Sounds fabulous, Denise White (Blue Butterfly)! Thanks! 🌺🌷🌸
Hi Christa.
I always always colplete a project before i move on to another one. I finished 2 king size masaic blankets. A lot of work. I keep the end product in mind and just push through. But my love for yarn and crochet helps a lot.
That's awesome, Jannetje Renke! Thank you!! 🌸👍🌺
Christa I would love to see tutorial on table runner it's lovely.💝💝
Thank you, Deborah M! 🌈🌼🌸
I use Copper fingerless gloves to help with my hands.
I love the shawl best of all and would love the pattern.
That's a great tip, Louise Atkinson! 👍 And glad you like the shawl! Thanks!! 🌺🌼🌸
I have a big project and a small project going at the same time. I used to have 20 projects going and never finished anything, I couldn't remember what they all were so I turned over a new leaf.
That's awesome, Gwendolyn Applegate! Thank you!! 🌸👍🌺
Like the turning much better thanks for thtip
Oh I am so glad, Debbie Jones! Thank you!! 🌸🌼🌺
Hi Christa. Thank you for everything you do for us. I mainly crochet 1 metre square blankets for a mission hospital. I guess I'm a little different to some as I finish one before starting the next one. To motivate myself, I will look out the next set of colours. I try to crochet everyday.
That's awesome, Sue Barton! Thank you!! 🌸👍🌺
Hi Christa, I have to give myself enough time to finish a big project because I intersperse with small, easy, fun projects and work back and forth. Thanks for the tips on the granny squares. Can’t wait to make the purple blanket, not in purple😂!!!
Oh I am so glad you enjoyed it, A Potter!! Thank you! 🌷🌺🌷
Thanks for this tslk it holly made sense to me
Hi Christa great podcast, like you I must have a smaller project or be watching something on TV or phone to keep me motivated while I'm working on a big project. Definitely please would love to see a sparkling Christmas table runner tutorial. Thankyou for all you do.
Hi, Aussie Sandy!! So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
I don't do a lot of big projects. If I do, it will be for my kids, grandkids, or myself.
Hi, Marla Fernandez!! Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
Hi christa love to hear more about where you live
Oh thank you so much, Debbie Jones! 🌺🌻🌸
I would ❤that shawl to be a tutorial or pattern. It is so gorgeous!!
Oh thank you so much, @TheKellyHaggerty! 🌺🌻🌸
I just finished the spiral blanket with a 2 wight cotton(call me crazy) super easy was one of the best blankets I have made so far blues and greens for my boy thanks so much! You keep my corjoe going!
That sounds AMAZING, B.C.! Thanks! 🌺🌷🌸
I love the blanket ,behind you
The colors are my color's. I definitely want to wat h your tutorial for that one.
Oh I am so glad you liked it, JANE DC5,CH3! Thanks!🌻🌺🌼
Tia🙂
Oh thank you so much, Christin Greene! 🌺🌻🌸
Would love you to do a Christmas table runner tutorial!
Thank you, Wendy D! 🌈🌼🌸
I take breaks inbetween large projects..I finish one project before starting another...Don't like having multiple WIPS
Good for you, Connie Maldonado!! Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
I’ll make a game out of bigger projects, how many rows I can do in a specific amount of time. But I definitely break up my big projects with little ones. Especially right now, I was crocheting so many 8x8 granny squares that it was causing my middle fingers to lock up.
Thank you, Shawndra B! 🌈🌼🌸
I also turn my work. I like both sides to look the same
Me too, Carolyn Woodlief! Thank you! 🌷🌸🌷
Oh CONGRATULATIONS, Sharon SD! Hugs! 🌺🌻🌸
Congratulations Sharon happy crocheting from Ireland.🌸🌸
@@SecretYarnery Thank you 💕
@@deborahm4484 Thank you!
And Congratulations from Australia 🇦🇺 too! 😁
Oh thank you so much, Kerryn Wright! 🌺🌻🌸

I loved the big shawl, would like to see it in a tutorial.
Thank you, Estella Lance! 🌈🌼🌸
I'm with you I need smaller projects to change it up
I agree Barbara McClery! 👍 Thank you! 🌺🌻🌸
I have been looking for that exact pattern on your tote bag to make a blanket and haven’t been able to find it. I would love to see a pillow tutorial ❤❤❤
Oh thank you so much, Ashley Hohensee! Like a big Granny Square Blanket? 🌺🌻🌸
Gorgeous!
That's awesome, kat benz! I sure have! It's here: secretyarnery.com/products/granny-square-project-bag And here: ua-cam.com/video/5px__u2aLY0/v-deo.html Thank you!! 🌸👍🌺

That's awesome, cheryl herrera! I admire you! Thank you!! 🌸👍🌺
I set a date when it needs to be finished 🧶

Good morning very interesting about turning your work would you mind doing a tutorial about turning your work and that join as you go so very pretty your work. From Newfoundland Canada
Oh thank you so much, Beverley Simmons! 🌺🌻🌸
Awe! Thank you so much, Christina Obregón! 🌺🌷🌺
hiya christa! wonky work makes me crazy! the spiral is still on my to-do list. qotw: i'll do cross stitch, small crochet projects, changing colors/yarn type for another project... my tv is nearly always on so that helps too! YAY for stack in the back. jeepers, that shawl is stunning...tutorial please. xoxo
Oh I am so glad you liked it, Romayne Carlin! Thanks!🌻🌺🌼
Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
