This is an amazing opportunity for any aspiring comic artist or writer. Getting to sit with the man as he creates an amazing comic cover. Thank you Jim Lee for being such an AWESOME person for sharing this type of experience. I will probably watch this a dozen times! :)
Anybody that just passes through this comments subscribe to this guy Robert marzullo dude your tutorials are really helpful and they have helped me improve a lot. Most of my improvent in comics art style come from watching your videos. I am making my first comic soon thanks to you.
@@robinthestate6548 WOW! Thank you very much for that great comment. I am honored to be able to help you and very happy to hear you are getting ready to produce your first comic. That is what it’s all about. Congrats on putting in the work and good luck on its release! 😎👍
Me on an all-nighter deadline: coffee, shaking hands, sweating, swearing, frantically pounding more coffee, and collapsing at the dreaded break of dawn. Jim Lee: a bunch of shout-outs, camera set up, soothing sharpie anatomy lesson, and then finished pencils as effortless as tossing a paper airplane. My lifelong idol never ceases to amaze!
I watch it all. Sometimes on twitch sometimes on youtube... I work Graveyard shift as a security guard so I have lots of time on my hands. Your streams have helped keep me sane through the long nights. I am a long time fan going back to the beginning of your career! Mad props to you! I saw your snippets after ep1 of Krypton!
You amaze me Jim. Your style is fascinating because I truly believe it is a bridge between all styles. I think artists of any genre can be inspired by you and sketch artists at any stage of their development can learn something and be challenged, and most importantly, relate to you ;)
Hello Jim, Can't tell you how much I enjoyed watching your creative process in creating this cover artwork. Absolutely Amazing! Thanks so much for posting these incredible videos on UA-cam for those of us unfamiliar with Twitch. Look forward to seeing more of these in the future. Keep up the Great Work.
This man is so nice and well spoken not to mention a comic god I never thought I would get to watch him draw comics I grew up on. When I was a teen I took art classes and me and my friends would try to draw comics like Rob and Jim and I hate that I stopped drawing over the years I guess I gave up when I realized I would never go anywhere with it but this has inspired me to pick it back up after 20 yesrs
Jim, much appreciated. Always useful to see a master at work: I was surprised to see how quick it was to draw the background and how careful you were on faces and hands.
So much awesome! We're not worthy Jim! Thanks so much for sharing these. I went to Art School, have done freelance concept and Illustration work for fifteen years and I can say I've learned more just watching these videos than I have all those years, lol! Thanks!!!
Wow. Jim thank you for this. Seeing an entire actual piece be created is such a good tool for aspiring artists. Especially those of us who want to borrow from the best. Amazing!
Lately I've been going through a phase where my eyes have improved and I realized that all of my drawings are shit. This hit me hard and I'm feeling a little down. Watching Jim Lee draw and erase all the time during the intial stages of drawing the cover gave me more confidence as I've been erasing a lot lately as well. Thanks Jim, I'm looking forward to more of your videos!
one of the things I thanks the technology for is that i never thought I would have the chance to be with you and see you drawing alive You were my inspiration thru all my life thanks so much for this Jim
The Amazing Jim Lee! It's quite an honor and privilege sir to get to watch you create and to get pointers and advice...wow...just wow! Ya know, you could use a strip of tape on the desk as an indicator mark of what is and isn't in frame, just a thought.
What amazing past 5 hours. I love to draw. Nowhere near as good as you lee. But I’ll never stop drawing comics. No matter how much people tell me to give up on them. Thanks for the inspiration.
Jim, this is very awesome, thank you! I appreciate your in depth explanations on everything. I am curious if you draw or sketch new stuff different stories, Non DC related? I know you have created new characters for DC and you have deep ties to them. Thank you for the art you have produced that has inspired generations!
Found this vid by accident. Bought 3 of the Batman: Noir books last month, the first in my collection, and one of them was Batman: Noir Hush, which I love.
Hey Jim, I could watch these all day (not really because I have kids and a job) but are you gonna do more 4, 5 hour panels or cover recordings posted on UA-cam? Very enjoyable. Thank u
At the initial sketch, it doesnt look too different than how i start my drawing. That gives me hope :) I`v seen too many artists who draw without any construction or preliminary sketches and i got kind of depressed.
#1,000th issue is a big thing, well for me. It's most likely the higher comic geeks are gonna 'scoop' up all the mint issues, and leave only a handful to none for me to find
And I hope they get burned like everyone did with Superman #75. I hopped back into Spider-Man after dropping the title for almost 15 years (not knowing about the latest plot) only to miss 2 issues not realizing it was shipping more than once/month.. missed 2 issues and ended up getting bent over on ebay just to get them... the TL;DR ... always keep your pull box/list updated. lol
kbruns33 I knew after reading parts on Days of Future's Past, that something like Superman #75 couldn't be. Killing off the main guy, impossible. But now, after many Earth - ####, it gives writers any options to write as many Supermans on one page. Currently I'm not a collector for the stories, rather the title's awesome art, 1st appearance, cover, and nice variant covers
LOVE the rendering as always but in this pose I find very little gesture? Almost like, the spines have no flair? Something in me wants to see more torque in the limbs, arch in the backs, expressive necks or exaggerated poses like the old master paintings or an animation keyframe... just an urge but man that would've put this over the top! Still awesome & love your work of course! :)
Can someone explain the reasoning behind the positioning of the figures? Superman has his right leg behind the bad guy and the left leg in front of him making it seem like he's with his back turned to the bad guy almost as if he was sitting on his lap and grabbing his neck to punch him at the same time. It's a very odd position to be in in a fight, trying to punch someone. I realise it may be visually important to have the characters kind of facing the "camera" but wouldn't it be better to at least rotate his hip towards the other guy, putting the right leg closer to the camera instead, and creating a torquing motion of the torso for the punch? I love your drawings, of course, but this is oddly bugging me
Superman doesn't twist and turn like the average human since he's able to fly and defy gravity. If you took a snapshot every second of a real fight scene you'd see that there are times when a person is off balance or in a weird position. Plus, creating an effective drawing means you have to bring out a character's best features. It's a good drawing.
Can you do a lesson on drawing close shots vs far shots. Have trouble knowing how much detail is enough when rendering faces and bodies that are further away from camera. The smaller the subject it seems the more important each line becomes.
Been a fan since 86' took art classes at Princeton there were two people I always hoped I would come across you and Brooke Shields, but everyone I know say I draw like you
After watching you more than a couple times now I understand you have quite a bit more experience than myself. I can do similar to you to a certain level anyway but if I was interested in trying to get work doing something like yourself and have no name or connections , how would I go about getting started or plugged into a profession like this ?
Love how loose he is when he start drawings wish I got over my detail phase and just go full flow. I did try loose flow drawings today and it was so much more enjoyable then stiff were does this go. x'D

He drew not only the cover, but also about 4 pages from scratch...It was really usefull.
I love all of the erasing and changing things, I feel like it kind of gives the drawing a soul

Jim’s pencil scratching is the best ASMR ever
"Whats your favorite thing to autograph"
"the back of a check when I sign it"
That's savage, not dad-humor.

Maestro, las piernas de Superman quedaron cortas, de todas maneras es un dibujo genial.
Yale Stewart was in the chat! He’s the artist for JL8, super cool guy
