Great to start it off and end it with John Coltrane's "My One and Only Love" by those street performers.

Thank you for posting this. You have culturally enriched my life. I'm too poor to travel more than 30 miles from where I live.

His name is pronounced De Coaning, he was born 5 minutes from where I live. We still see him as a great Dutch painter, who was greatly influenced by Vermeer and Mondriaan. A great Rotterdammer.

Its a wonderfull video - and so good that you share it and make it possible to see, when it is not possible to be there in the moment of the show. De Kooning is a wonderfull artist - and this ads to my knowledge of what he has done

Thanks James for the video, i was lucky .... I was in New York last week and saw the show, took my time 1.5 hours there, I saw his 1960/75 paintings the Gotham News abstracts, quite incredible and the sculptures too. A must see show a true visual understanding afterwards. Thanks

Your de Kooning Part 1 MoMA video 2011 so totally nailed this with a wide array of early de Kooning sequenced in very meaningful ways. Can't tell you how much I enjoyed seeing these earlier work close up & quite steady & in a nice rhythm. Your comments were also very helpful opening things up. The ones one usually see of his early work in NYC are otherwise the same very few & thereby so much icons it's hard to break through to see the creativity. You've broken through here… GREAT!

Fabulous commentary and video James. When my bro ( whatever ) & myself saw the show a week ago ..already. I actually mentioned jokingly about you and your bike , this is James Kalm from the Moma etc. Small world we live in today.
What a show ! i've waited so long to see this type of show. It's a once in a lifetime show. Amazing.

Actually de Kooning disembarked at Newport News, Virginia as a stowaway. He did live in Hoboken, NJ early on and painted houses there for a living.

The colors in this video are faithful to the original paintings? On my kooning book a diference between colors are enormous!! At the painting "the cow jumps over the moon" the green color appears blue ??!! This painting show green or blue???
