- A leading lawyer, Raghunath Tyagi, wants his only son Akash to take interest in law, but all he is interested in is poems. He falls in love with a courtesan named Shabnam, but his father opposes the marriage, resulting in Akash leaving the house. Mindblowing movie! Amitabh, Jaya, Raza Murad all were flawless. Hard to believe this was Raza Murad's debut. He absolutely nailed it as the lawyer. Tarun Bose as Amitabh's father was also very good.
This was Amitabh and Jaya's first movie together.
Certainly amazed to see Raza Murad Saab and how innocent Amitabh was.

Jaya Bhaduri is so fantastic! 1:14:45-1:16:40 is just an example of her phenomenal talent! So much strength and passion in her dialogue delivery! Great movie -- Amitabh and Raza Murad are wonderful as well!

+vinay raj I agree that there will b no one like Amitabh and his achievement is extraordinary but his entry in to the industry was not as u say Amitabh struggled in the start of his career until the role of ZANJEER came along which was turned down by the big actors of the time but when u r destined for stardom luck plays a part but A.B is a self made man after Zanjeers role and the ret is history The guy i a living legend just like Dilip kumar who A.B was inspired by but the main thing is the Grt Amitabh is so humble and his feet stayed on the ground he never let stardom get to him.Sharukh is the same just like A.B nailed the part in zanjeer Sharukh did it in the film Darr witch was offered to other actors but they refused cuz it was a negative role but anyway like u say Amitabh is a one off Actor no one will ever replace or do what he has done for the film industry

Bohut achha movie, lekin ek bohut badi chuk hai, agar shabnam ka janam ,kalavati ke saadi se 3 saal pahale ho chuki thi ,iska matlab kalavati ka beta ,shabnam se kam se kam 4 saal ka chhota hoga ,agar aisa hai to question aata hai ki oh kitne umar me lawyer bana??? Aur akash v ashok ko bhaia bol rahe the .isi baat pe jara khichdi pak gaya ,barna story bohut saandar hai.

Last scene brought tears to my eyes! Really, no woman should ever have to step into a brothel, instead it is better to live a life in poverty but in dignity! Such sensitive films are not made anymore that tackle social issues! Jaya Bhaduri was outstanding as Shabnam just as Amitji and other actors too! Patta Patta Buta Buta.....was a chart topper then and will remain so hereafter! This film showed a happy ending for Shabnam but in reality, is there happy ending in the lives of thousands of Shabnams? Perhaps no!
