Lindy...I hate art spectrum pastelmpaper and meteintes touch ...because both has texture seeing through despite many layers...after awhile they will not hold pastel anymore! What's your opinion? I m using pastelmat paper now. But I love blending easily on above two papers. What's your opinion?
Isn't interesting how different artists like different papers. I love Colourfix because I can use the paper colour as part of the painting. I like how it shows through. You hate it for the same reason 🙂
I bought a few of the mungyo handmade pastels and inspected them closely, to be honest they don't look like hand made at all. There are some small residual area of shinny smooth crust left over on the surface, it seems they were extruded and then the out layer crust was grinded off unevenly to mimik handmade pastels. Also they are a little too hard to be handmade as well. Have you noticed that?
I find the Myungo Gallery hand made pastels very similar in appearance to the Unison handmade and havn't experienced what you are describing. I agree they are not as soft as some other handmade pastels but I find them a very useful and good quality pastel. Admittedly I have a large range of super soft pastels as well so softness is not my major reason for using these pastels. They are also being sold under the Jackson Art handmade label these days. To be honest I'm not too bothered if they're handmade or extruded as long as they do the job!
@@LindyWhittonStudio yeah I agree they are still nice pastels and are very smooth, just feel they are....a little dishonest which makes me question their lightfastness claim a little bit.
"Let us spray". when you got closer I could see it coming together to be another masterpiece. You are an artist because you can be loose or realistic whereas I am the Zerox machine of pastel painters. Did you reject pastel realism early on or just gravitate to impressionism naturally? I'm glad I'm not a police sketch artist. "ah, sargent, looks like your witness has fallen asleep"
I think it's just that I was always fitting it in between a demanding hospital job and so I never had much time . Also I'm not really a detail person ...more a wing it style, hence the shorthand of impressionism sort of took over. When I hear how long some artists take on a single painting I feel exhausted!!! That' not to say I don't ppreciate their work it's just not the way I work:)
Love these two presentations, so helpful! Thank you so much!
