Stephen King wrote in his book "On Writing" about the importance of good dialogue, yet the dialogue in this film absolutely sucks. He never understood that dialogue in novels and in screenplays are two completely different mediums.
Writing is just appealing to the people that want to read your style. It definitely benefits to have core elements like a compelling story, characters, world, growth, climax, conflict ark, etc, etc. But like stories don't need all those elements packed together, and we've seen shittier books get made into full length films. The bottom line is, just write the damn book, and then doctor it up later to make it work for media.
Writting is more about convincing people to be interested in your ideas. The more people you can get invested in your work, the more successful your writting is.
I remember seeing this in theaters back in 1992, and the crowd was packed! This movie played to its crowd, and everybody loved every minute of it! Sleepwalkers was definitely written while intoxicated because is essentially a bad trip on some serious narcotic. The mother and son kissing really made the whole audience go ape shit! One of my greatest movie theater experiences as an 10 year old.
@@emblemedfate4270 Yeah, the Soul Eater manga was good and an anime reboot could be gorgeous, especially with the takes on the clown villains and scenes of madness in the story.
There are so many bad Steven King adaptations, but they all have that level of bad where you can't stop watching it because of how ridiculous they can get at times like the mini series.
There's an older movie called "cat people", starring Malcolm McDowell and Natasja Kinski, with music by Georgio Moroder. It's about a brother and sister who turn into big cats, and to turn back they have to eat a person and have sex with each other or something. I think Stephen King saw it while he was high, and then imagined he dreamed it and wrote it again.
Fun fact: for a few years I legit thought this movie was a fever dream from my childhood and didn't actually exist. No one I described it to knew wth I was talking about. I watched it in adulthood and was severely disappointed... Why would Mr King do this to us 😩
Stephen King has a way, he can write the craziest thing and make it entertaining and enjoyable. A lot of things that can be written can't always be brought to a visual medium. A lot of times the actors in his movies help. Maximum Overdrive is worth watching, very fun and entertaining.
