With some of Mercedes and BMW’s recent designs, I’ve been appreciating Audi’s evolutionary and conservative exterior aesthetic more and more lately. Excellent color palettes on many of their models, too, and love that this example still has the aluminum accents instead of a black optic package.
I have a 22 SQ5 and it's a great car to live with. The performance is fantastic but it's also very comfortable to take on trips. It's very dynamic in that it can be a calm and comfortable cruiser in comfort mode with almost imperceptible shifts between gears but will give you hard kicks in the rear when in dynamic mode.
Had one as a service loaner in the same color. Beautiful color. That aside, a Macan S feels significantly different, especially the steering. Worth the premium if that matters.
I got to drive one of these, an earlier one with the same 3.0L supercharged V6 & DCT from the S4 and some APR goodies, and man, was that thing an absolute riot. The noises that the supercharger produced made Hellcats sound quiet. This thing would definitely be at the top of my list if I was in the SUV market.
Got my wife … well I am SQ5 2018 and LOVE IT. love the cold starts in the morning… and in fully dynamic mode and sport it zips. Corners well and cruises smooth at HWY speeds. A little cramped for myself with two car seats in the back but usually the forward facing one behind me is fine. It’s dark silver with the Red Leather interior and carbon fiber it sweet. Also great in the winter in CO. We got ours in 2023 March with 30k miles on it I think ish for 35k. It’s the Premium Plus one owner.
@@TedwardDrives I love green Audis, this is the perfect emerald-y green. I am scooping up an A6 here soon hopefully and will hold onto it until I can nab an Audi Exclusive allocation and grab an A6 wagon in green
I live in SoCal and had a pair of Bosch wiper blades last 5 years on my MK7 GTI. The same exact blades only lasted a year before they turned to plastic on my Acura TL. There’s something to that little wiper movement that VAG products do.
I have a 2016 Sq5 Plus TDi in the UK, Its done 1000,000 miles its looked after, its re-mapped to 400BHP and it is fantastic. There is no daily like it. I have had it for 5 yrs and cannot see what I would replace it with oh and 40 mpg . Gold dust.
Have a 2019 sq5 gray with red interior such an awesome car. Unfortunately a little too small with 2 kids now BUT keeping it for my fun car while the wife drives around the Jeep grand Cherokee L we got last week. Let the mods begin 😊
One of my favourite SUVs of all time, I love the design language both on the exterior and on the interior. The first gen doesn't look that good although it's still pretty nice and the post-facelift version of current gen doesn't do it for me at all, but this? This is fantastic. The spec is gorgeous, I haven't seen one in that colour before. Definitely going to get one at some point, although my exterior colour of choice is blue. I don't know much about its reliability but I believe it must be making for a fantastic daily. :)
Totally agree on the choice of spec you mentioned at the end of the video. So many common and less common cars always turn out to be black, silver or white (the latter less likely) to the point where manufacturers who used to give you the choice for little to no extra bright colours now make them part of a really pricey pack (PTS colours for instance and alike) Shouldn't be afraid to go with something distinctive. This coming from the owner of a black on black car 😅 but only because it was a second hand and could not budget for a better spec, hope to do better for the next
I have a 2023 SQ5. Real quad exhaust tips. Startup sounds amazing and louder than this 2018. Torque converter is just meh compared macan pdk. But overall a great daily. Beat out macan S as an option due to more usable space.
@@TedwardDrives yeah, I have been hitting a few good ones in Weston near South Ave but you have to be pretty careful now and then, don’t want to drive 45 min to an hour for a drive though
Man I love the interior and exterior design of the B9 generation of cars, but the creaks and rattles are horrendous… I’ve had to take my car back to Audi so many times and they still weren’t resolved… In the end I took my car to an auto body shop to get them to sort everything out, but some things like the hollow lower dash plastics are just unfixable and creak like crazy.
I was a total Audi fanboy when these came out, and I really wanted to love them. (I had a B8.5 MY2016 SQ5 until 2020.) My butt dyno didn't read any notable improvement over the supercharged 3.0L, and the initial QC issues out of the Mexico plant really kept me away. As much as I otherwise loved the interior (and the option of gray seats) the B9 trademark "let's put a screen, uhh......here! We'll put it here. It'll be great!" center screen was a huge turn-off. FWIW, I did come close on a 2020 S5 Sportback, but it's worse-than-a-prison-sentence rear seats and high-lift cargo floor led me elsewhere.
@@tyhyhh Yeah, the ZF8 in these cars shifts as fast or faster than most DCTs. I own an SQ5 but came from a GLI with a DSG. I much prefer the ZF8 because I know that it'll be more robust than the DSG while still retaining the shift performance.

Mercedes is fine for design for the most part excluding the EQ soaps in my opinion. Just underwhelming or vastly overcomplicated powertrains
@@AlexJeffDust-RenAzuma66 True, I’d agree most of the non-EQ models are okay. Same with 2 Series (2-door), 3 series and tbh even the new 5 Series
This gen is already 7 years old. No sense to compare recent BMW and Mersedes-Benz models. Wait for a new gen - it will be same china-style shit.
Always cool to see our wheels out in the wild!

I love the fact that it's a prestige!! Thanks Tedward.
That green could well be one of the greatest colors I've ever seen. Wish my X3M was painted in it!!
I have never seen an Audi in a color like this in real life they're always grey or black or white
Its so rare to see a fun color on an Audi
finally a sleeper thanks tedward u the best
Maybe s4 b8.5 with manual transmission next ???😬😬
Great video as always
Been a long time! I'll see what I can find

We needed the stick of truth to confirm the fake exhaust tips
haha that or the eyes of sight. I chose eyes
Post-21 model years fixed everything.

the perfect spec! hopefully another one pops up for you soon

That green is delicious
I think the older one have a 3.0L v6 SC which I personally like more
Great looking car. Love that color combo.
You shoulda showed the ultra-squat mode by pushing the cargo load button in the hatch area 🤠

Would like to see a drive with an X3 M40i at some point. The BMW is a true sleeper without the compromises of the harsh X3M ride.

Need to find a GLC63 to review

That is a pretty spec
Fun fact: the motor is actually a collaboration with Porsche and it appears in a few Porsche models.
im looking at a 2018 with 100k miles on it, how reliable are audis? i am used to mazdas..
do a mmi swap for touchscreen
Yes
Where are your best driving roads that aren’t far from Boston? These roads look very fun.
I really have to pick and choose. There's no great continuous roads unfortunately

Weston around 117 has some good spots, and Water Row in Sudbury has a few good corners but be careful for bikers!
How did audi get away with taillights which arent fixed to the rear? Is it because its got lights at the rear bumper?
Do you think that you could review the 2018 Audi S5? Prestige sportback
I was just wondering, an SQ5 with a petrol engine? Apparently they were available here in Germany too, so far I have only seen the 3L TDI😅
What kind of fuel economy did the diesel get? That’s a healthy size for a diesel!

The rear hatch space is a deal breaker for me. I've never seen a more poorly packaged crossover

50k is still wildly expensive, honestly
This one sold for about 33k on cars and bids. Many have sold in the 20s

Azores Green Metallic
