The New Myer Centre opened in Adelaide, South Australia in June 1991. Here is some footage of Dazzleland, that was on the top floor & operated till 31st January 1998
Paul Coffey It was actually seven floors up. "Rundle" Level was the ground floor and "Promenade" Level although tucked away was actually the 1st floor. Level 1 was fully above "Promenade". But yeah - You couldn't call Adelaide boring back in Blue's Bullets' heyday. (Blue's Bullet was the name of the roller-coaster because its track was painted blue.) Especially seeing as how directly beneath the tracks itself was nothing but a sheer drop down to "Rundle" Level below. It was built directly over The Myer Centre's gap in the middle of the mall floors.
Ah Memories. WHY they shut down Dazzleland to "make way for more specialty shops" I'll never know. Wonder if those idiots in the mid-1990's jumping from Dazzleland levels to their deaths had something to do with it. :'( Imagine witnessing someone jumping through the 'hole' in the middle of the floors & whack onto the hard floor of Rundle Level or worse - Terrace Level were the food court was located. I had a family member who worked in The Myer Centre as mall security officer back in 1995. I still remember the phone-call late one night to say "I'll be home late. We've just had another jumper." then two or three weeks later, he came home and told us about the nutcases he'd had ask him about a "Flyby Cafe". You know, where you can see people FLY BYE - splat! while you eat! Wasn't all bad thou. Because of knowing one of the mall security officers, I was given a free-pass to Dazzleland that never had an expiry date on it. :D Anyone else remember those free-passes? Where all rides were free and you were given 1st preference on the amusements? Shame today because the glory days of the centre are long gone now.
Seeing this again and comparing it to the centre now since the upgrade was finished at the end of 2013 it doesn't even look like the same place, it's now in its 3rd era and now not nearly as recognisable and seeing the shot down all the other levels that's what The Myer Centre is supposed to look like? just like any other major shopping centre, not even the lower floors now look close to what we see here, not only as part of the upgrade the unused escalators to the 4th and 5th floors between 1998 and 2013 are now gone leaving what's left of Dazzleland completely empty but almost 0 people are even on level 3 these days
Back when Being a kid was fun and going to winter garden with family and finding out about learning new stuff for 🏫 and getting into high school and meet new friends. You should try the sweet buns in west end yummo
brings a tear to my eye watching this. back in the day I was here whenever possible. I wonder if the deaths were the real reason for the closure. The top most levels still remain empty!
I believe one of the reasons they wanted to shut down, is the noise on the upper levels was keeping customers away from the lower retail shops. but then again wouldn't attractions just increase foot traffic and not drive them away?
I know of one suicide. A male teenager. I don't think this was the reason to close the coaster, it must have been financial reasons. Shade Cloth was put in closer to ground level to impact the fall of the jumpers
Never went on it, but you can't call any city boring that had a roller coaster five floors up in a shopping centre. Bring back Dazzleland!

They need to bring back Dazzleland
Unfortunately we are living in the era of boring. EVERYTHING is boring now. They'll probably put a bank up there...
I wish the Myer Centre still looked like this. That paint scheme actually fits in pretty well with the building.
If you want the customers back we'll bring it BACK!! Missed them day's when I was kid. Cheers for the vid absolutely AMAZING 👍😃
Thats the problem with getting older, you miss the things of the past.

+Xavier Smith I heard about that, but I never knew if it was true or not.
Clayton Derwent. First 16 year old to die "jumping"
Who cares about their deaths, they will jump off anything, it is now 2020 and nobody remembers those losers, consigned to decades long gone.
The dynamic loading of the roller coaster kinda got it
Myer Centre is nothing like it used to be 😢
It looks way better than it does now
If only we still had that many people walk through the Myer Centre doors today...
Radio pink and white mmm jripple m
Miss Brisbane in the 90s, the Hungry Jacks is still in the center of the mall, usual meeting spot for everyone.
I remember this ride very well , I rode on it years ago and I didnt feel safe at all 😢😢.😢😢
I miss this place so much!

A few of its artifacts now currently reside at DeYoung's Salvage.
Damn! I was there for a year in adelaide '91, miss Myer and the Dazzleland. planning to bring my kids there, but no more rollercoaster???
I worked there opening night on the dodgem cars. Finished there in about 94.

Why can't we have nice things anymore
Omg mems from my childhood ahhh D:
They said people jumped off from up there but I swear it was that ride. When it made the turn and tips slightly to the side... it propels you!
The song from 2:42 is called "In the Hall of the Mountain King"!
Back when the Myer Centre was populated above its first two floors...

I visited Myer on 30 Jan 1998. The train was still there but it was not running.
Cheers legend 😁

They had nam flashbacks
Bring it back. Safety net has been placed
I would love to have it back but since it has been gone for over 25 years is never coming back
I think I remember hearing about this place about a decade ago and about people jumping if I remember correctly?
I don't recall hearing about any, but that doesn't mean they didn't. Maybe one reason they took it away
alco850 yeah, I don't know. I sorta remember hearing about the suicides when I was quite young but ah, who knows XD

In the Hall of the Mountain King.
Sorry I can't place it, I have listened over & over, but can't remember the tune
Hang on a second. Is this Brisbane or Adelaide? This looks like Brisbane but the description says Adelaide...
This one is in Adelaide as it states
@@alco961 Cheers. Weirdly enough there was also a theme park in the Brisbane Myer center which was dismantled at the same time.
@@macdrown3892 Both the Adelaide and Brisbane Myer Centres were actually built by the same company
Canadian company Forrec Attractions built them both
@@oatenroberts Actually it was the REMM group
