So the blooper was unintentional lol! I have now removed it as I try to keep my channel PG-13 as I'm aware minors watch it too!
That'll teach me for trying to manage the monsters, film then edit while doing other things later!

12 years or so ago I got a happy hut thing for my budgie. She loved it … but immediately got extremely hormonal and started laying eggs. I didn’t understand what was going on at the time, and she ended up getting egg bound and had to have it extracted by the vet. Besides the emotional toll, that hut ended up costing me hundreds of dollars because of the vet bills. Luckily my budgie made it through that experience but I wish she didn’t have to go through it in the first place. Happy huts are not worth the risk imo.

I couldn't agree more. They are often loved by parrots (like you mentioned) but my goodness the problems they cause just aren't worth it!

I learned from my mistake after my female Lili got a bit too "over-excited" and started regurgitating seeds all over her small mirror perch. We removed it permanently and only show the tiels a mirror for a couple of seconds at a time to catch a funny reaction to it from them, not long enough anymore for them to get emotionally attached :D good and informative video once again!

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  2 роки тому +1

Yeah, mirrors can really big massively triggering hormone wise. It's sad that they are still punted so much in so many places!
It's good that you noticed and got it sorted!

Ugh I hate those hut things. I take all the bells off toys. Ah, mirrors! That one mirror I have is screwed into the wall! Can't take it off. Gizmo no longer engage with the mirror. Interesting video!

      Hey there!
Some parrots will really enjoy them. Also as I mentioned some bells are safe. Even the unsafe ones (provided they aren't the coloured ones) can be ok, especially if not chewed. But, saying that, all it takes is one incident sadly!
Ultimately it's always up to the owner to make the call on what they feel is best for their parrot, I just try to give honest opinions so people can make their own minds up!

I just want to say a mirror is ok. Why? It’s bad for them? It’s not because they are just thinking that that’s another bird. People always say this but it’s not true they are interacting with the other bird they are confused

Ooh this will be in interesting vid!!
Huts: hormonal, unsafe, wow great job manufacturers
Bells, I have a lot, but I just thrown them all away once I realized they r un useful and harmful; I remove most of them of toys (I remove all parts of toys and make better ones 😃)
Mirrors, in my opinion, no thanks. I was thinking of getting one once when I didn't know anything about birds, but I didn't. And u don't want hormonal birds lol
I have a plastic charm toy for Maya, it's more of a decoration (it's safe bc it's super hard but still) she also doesn't really play with is bc she likes her natural, shreddable toys much better 😃😃
I use cotton rope perches for Fluffy and Tiki, but Fluffy it's a little softer and Fluffy doesn't care, he would rather play with his toys and for Tiki, it is soooo tightly woven, even I can't.... U know
Maya can't use cotton rope perches bc she chews them
I don't like cotton rope toys either lol
Ppl put sandpaper in the bottom of the cage? What? Where did ppl get these awful ideas from??
Maya: loves cork, Sola wood and yucca
Fluffy: like everything Maya likes but he also likes harder woods
Tiki: doesn't like chewing wood, likes paper 😶
Dowel perches! Amazing perches!! Best perches in the world!! Yeah yeah, natural wood is better. Maya has a metal rod in her cage but I can't remove it bc it's attached in the cage. But it's slanted and she likes her platform perch and natural wood perches instead.
I use sanding perches, but Maya's sanding perch is near the bottom of the cage so she rarely goes there. Fluffy never goes there bc it's in a corner under his platform perch so it's pretty much un used. Tiki uses it a little more often, but not that much.
Amazing vid!! Round of applause!!! Placing like!!!

      Hey Candice,
We do the same as many cool toys come with bells. So we just remove them like you do and carry on!
Some parrots really love the cotton rope perches as they as soft and easy to grip! Olive loves hers too!
They do lol It's really common and often something marketed to new parrot owners!
      Thank you lol

Ive seen someone who KNOWS about birds and dangerous toys and things, selling bird toys with FOAM! I asked about it and they said it was safe and birds love chewing it. But it's not worth the risk! It's unnatural and dangerous if they swallow it, there's absolutely no need for it with all the natural materials available!

    • @TheParrotTeacher
      @TheParrotTeacher  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Alanah,
I agree. The problem is with these kinds of materials is "they are safe until they aren't." as an attitude. Most parrots will chew them, spit it out and no harm will come to them. HOWEVER there will be that 5-10% who do chew it, swallow a bit and have major problems. As long as many don't have issues it'll just be "meh, it's ok" until they become one of the few who's parrot does have an accident. It's similar with bells!
Also those kinds of materials are cheap, easy to source, look appealing etc. So it appeals to businesses and people on a budget.
Natural is always best. I personally can accept some hard plastic toys, safe bells etc. But stuff like foam as you say just isn't worth the risk!
