I do a soft shut down of my store the last two weeks of December for two reasons. The first is that it gives me a much needed break and time with family over the holidays. The second is that I’m able to avoid the stress of navigating demanding customers who want something before Christmas even though there’s no way it could be delivered in time. It’s like the old “sharpen your ax” adage. Allowing yourself breaks during the year ultimately makes you a better business owner.
Yes! I agree on the last minute demanding customers. I want to avoid that stress.
Just WOW. Amazing what some folks think is acceptable to say to someone they don't even know. I've adopted more and more the attitude.....I seriously don't have to justify what I do to you.
You do what you need to do when you need to do it. Only YOU will know what is the best time, and the best reason. No one else needs to know any of that. I usually shut my store down ONLY when I'm away visiting family. If I have to for any other reason, I normally don't give specifics. I'll be back such and such date. Period.
I also agree with keeping things put away in an organized fashion. Nothing worse than praying you find something that just sold! We've all done it. LOL
Even after doing this 23 years this November, I am still learning things from you and I appreciate that!!! Stay safe!
This is my first year reselling. I was using it as a second income until October when I was laid off from my job. My previous job was a corporate job and I had corporate burnout, quit and relocated to another state. I learned that my health and family comes first. I don’t have a UA-cam channel but I watch you all and wonder how you do it. It’s your company for a reason….. you are the boss. If you want to take time off, it seems that comments of negativity is someone who haven’t put health and family first. You know the holidays are coming, work hard and make it happen. I took a soft time of leave, traveled to see my only child(USAF) and new wife in their new home. Kevin, my Momma would say “ you will be able to make some people happy some of the time, but not all of the time” Happy New Year! P.S. thank you for sharing your knowledge; you have taught me so much. Chrissy
Another shed? The supply (not Hut) shed? I Didnt know about that one at all. lol. So you have 3 unattached sheds? Not including the ebay cave, which im assuming is in your house. Its great that you have a lot of land on your property to keep all those chickens and roosters and sheds!
I would love to see a video about the evolution of all your storage and work areas. Think the other viewers might as well.
When i outgrew my working space at my house, i first put shelves in an unused stairwell where i put all my supplies- my "supply stairwell" if you will. But i still had loads of inventory taking over my living room. So i built a 12x20 shed in my back yard. I love it! It opens up a lot of new opportunities for my business.
Think i might name it the Commonwealth Shed, in honor of one of my favorite flippers. And certainly the one with the most sheds!!
Mike from NY
Hey Kevin when are you going to start selling the good stuff? Items from your personal 80s collection that have some significant 💵 valuue... Trash to cash may do well for fake resellers but not the real ones...😮
I gave Turner the baseball stuff, but Reagan’s was on the floor still in the gold wrapping paper! Hopefully she’s opened it and likes it! Thanks for all your content!
As for shutting down your store, it’s important to take breaks! You take vacation when you work a full time “real job” so why not when you’re a reseller?
I left the group on Facebook because of these "complainers " I have a different word 😅😅
The person calling you dishonest was disappointing. You may not be everyone’s favorite person, but you are a very honest person. You have always been helpful to us whenever you’ve had the chance. The down side of social media is people can say anything. I wish you didn’t have to put up with it. Don’t like someone, don’t watch. Keep up the great content!
Thank you my friend. I suppose we are all dishonest to a certain degree though. If we really think about it. I know I would never tell my wife the truth about how I feel about these chickens pooping on my deck. Hope your event goes well.
@@commonwealthflipperThere’s a difference between actual dishonesty and calculated diplomatic speech.
Those comments take no prisoners on “real reseller”. Haha
I agree, if you resell just one item on any platform youre a reseller. Who cares
My sales are so slow I don't need to shut down 😊
Sweeeeeeet video. Thank you!
Well despite getting money for videos... you still are a reseller when.... you resell stuff.
I have no debt (okay, 2k on my car but I got such a good deal I couldn't not take the loan) I have a low cost of living. I don't take vacations. I want to go to the bash but can't justify the money expense as both my fitbit and phone crapped out this week. And I'm working on buying a house.
I did take the christmas to new years as a "slow down", already reset all my spreadsheets and such to the new year and I'll start my taxes when I'm sure I have all my other paperwork, typically feb 1st.
#1977BestYearEver #MyGoToTape #EbayGiftCard #myresellergenie
Best of luck to you on the house goal.
Thank you for the encouragement. I now feel like I’m really a real reseller. I’ve shut my store down for travel once or twice for a day or two, but usually I have my daughter apartment- cat- and business-sit for me. She has her own reselling business that her husband manages while she’s gone to take care of mine and she texts me if she can’t find something, and I can usually tell her where it is. Your detractors are sad people, and you respond so tactfully. I for one appreciate the sarcasm! 925 and My Go 2 if it’s not too late.
you’ve mentioned previously you take criticism personally. You cannot control what people think. People love to complain. Let it go. If I said, you’re fake. All of your videos are fake & without your video channel, your eBay sales would plummet. I don’t but I’m making a point. Let it go.
VT #42 Jersey, LA Rams Shirt, Toy Airport and Helicopter, Bins, Movers and Shakers Game, Starbucks Mug, Dallas Starbucks Mug, Westinghouse Chrome Toaster, Polaroid DVD Player, Lufkin Measuring Tape, Scrabble Racks, Nike Pullover Jacket, Steelers Colored Dammit Doll, Jesus Funko Pop, Partridge Family DVDs, Three's Company DVD, Lost in Space DVD, Dooney and Bourke Bag, Harry Potter lot, Merchandise Thanks Kevin Take Care Out
You've been doing this a long time; I'm sure you've heard it all before lol. 'You're not a real reseller', 'You're stealing cheap goods from the community', 'Your business is propped up by your viewers', etc. I'm sure you ALSO know that it's best to continue on The Path. It's always good to hear out criticism, but you cannot blindly accept critiques or blindly ignore them. Contend with the critique -> decide if it's valid -> adjust or keep moving.
I'm hoping to get to the point where I can feel comfortable doing a short shut down occasionally. I could have used it last fall but couldn't afford it and it was exhausting. But if one can afford to? Heck yes, we need time to decompress.
great content...love your advice..
any chance we will see your chickens?
we see your puppy and cat...
we have 50 , just love seeing what type others have..
thanks...
Feedback on the tape.
I’ve used it, it’s decent…but, the bulk tape (72 pack on eBay, multiple sellers) is half the price of Joel’s tape…with that in mind I don’t believe it’s double the value. I can buy twice the amount of tape for the same money, and it works fine 🤷♂️
If you put away $1 to $5 from every sale, you will have the funds to take a break, even if it just for 3 days. I'm very happy that you were able to take a real break and people who have an issue with you having time off are just projecting and need to spend their time fixing their shops, so they can make more money and take breaks.
My Go 2 Tape. Hi Kevin! I enjoy your videos very much! I love vintage items too. I just started reselling 7 months ago. I’m learning so much from your videos. Happy New Year!
Some people are just miserable people and aren't happy unless they're being rude or complaining about something. Close your store and go on vacation or to take time for yourself! Trust me, I'm 66 years old, my kids are grown, take your vacations with them while you can. You only have your kids for 18 summers if you're lucky. Love watching your videos!
Fake sales?
When you are doing 2 jobs to get those sales, who can say it's a fake sale? I do ebay for fun, hubby does ebay AND youtube. What he does is WAY more work, I can assure anyone.
You work hard for those "fake sales".
925 my go to tape!
I soft close a few times a year ti enjoy life with family and friends.
Just opened my very 1st eBay store this week … do you have a video in your library that explains the ins & outs of an eBay store? Also trying to educate myself regarding Dibdit, I’ve been approved to be a seller there. Will continue to watch your videos to further my education (@ age 70 😊) … thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us!
Hi Kevin - I did a soft shut down recently. It's Sad but there will always be haters out there. Some will be happy for you and learn from you as I did and still do. Then there are those who have to find something to tear others down - sad really. You keep doing what is best for you and your family and ignore the naysayers.
925 Go 2 tape giveaway. Love your channels.have learned so much. Yesteryear Lane. Had to take 2 months off this last summer for a 3 week hospital stay. Was able to put my shop on pause while in the hospital. All back up and running since September.
Hard shutdown while away from home on vacation. Make sure you don't have active offers out either. otherwise you will have to explain why your shipping will be delayed! 925 and My Go 2 Tape.
925 My Go 2 Tape Thanks for the reminder of what it was like with the complainers at school. I taught for 30 years and did eBay on the side. Now it supplements my retirement thankfully. I do not miss the complainers.
Hope you enjoyed your time in AZ with family. 925. My go2tape. Be selling on ebay for 15+years and now slowing down senior citizen time.
925 & My Go 2 Tape I do a hard shut down for one week during the summer. That is my time away with the family. I didn't shut down over the Christmas/New Year holidays, but I did slow down on listing. I am very busy this time of the year with my full-time job and also need to get ready for taxes for my business and my husband's business. He is the original self-employed person in the family and runs his own cabinetry business. There is so much to do this time of the year and you need to take breaks or slow down, at times, so you don't burn/stress out. Thank you for your videos!
925 & My go to tape. Ignore the haters!! Love your videos. Very informative. I sold on Ebay for years & am thinking of getting back into it. Lots of changes since I sold there last so trying to catch up on all the new stuff!!!!
We shut our store down (soft) in September for 10 days while on an Alaskan cruise. Still sold a good number of items during that time. Each day I would check the solds and message the buyer thanking them for their purchase and reminded them I of the delay in shipping. Interestingly a majority of them wrote back thanking me for the communication and left positive feedback after receiving the item. No one cancelled. #925
We resell part time and put store on time away if we are gone for more than 4 days. Because of a demanding day job and other responsibilities we always have our handling time set to 5 days. Really never let it go more than 2 days but like having the buffer if needed.
Everyone needs a break. 20 years HR experience and I can tell you, people are much more efficient (and happy) if they take some time off.
I don’t have time for whiners or “victims”. Bob and weave. Bob and weave
I shut down my store every year around Dec 15. Sometimes through New Years depending on our travel plans. Sometimes a soft close, sometimes a hard close or a mix. This is important time to be with my family. I also have no qualms about shutting down for various vacations. I’m a one girl shop, so if I’m not available, that’s it. I’m retired and resell for fun money, so it makes it easier to shut down. It has never hurt my sales. When I reopen, things start selling. I think it is important to plan periodic shutdowns just to take a break!
Does anybody know if it’s ok to sell expired MRE’s on the Bay; if sold without the heating element? I’ve seen conflicting answers. #925 #MyGo2Tape
Kevin , you are a incredible and vigorous teacher not only to Ebay sellers but to just everyday people who don’t sell. You have great wisdom to share on many subjects of just everyday living.
This is your classroom and I thank you for your time and effort.
Hi Kevin, thanks for this video. I take a break at least twice a year. It helps me relax physically and mentally, and also helps me focus and see things slightly different when I get back to work, fresh mind - fresh eyes. 😊 My go 2 tape
If you're a sole proprietor, which means you don't have someone else to run your business, the only option you have is to shut down in order to take time for yourself and your family. My dad did it as a small business owner and I know of a lot of brick and mortar places that close for a week once a year in order to take a vacation and spend quality time with their family. The advantage of selling online is that you can do the "vacation mode" and still make sales while you're napping on the beach, and you just have to ship it when you get home. I don't know many, if any, ebay sellers who DON'T use that from time to time. Also, thank you for defining "resellers"-that gave me a really nice chuckle! Keep doing what you're doing because even though "you don't tell the truth" according to your commenter, I have learned a ton from you and Dave both and appreciate your kind attitudes for sharing information to help your competition because you know that income is important to a lot of people.
I never take a day off from ebay, I am constantly surrounded by it. I wake up in the morning with bookshelves full of inventory surrounding my bed. If I do take more than a day off from listing my sells fall like a brick. I have over 4000 items in my store and if I manage to make a profit of 35.00 a day, it's been a good day. I live in a remote poor community in the midwest. I'm old and cant get out and run the streets, go to yard sales all year long. I don't bother comparing myself to other ebayer's. I do the best I can with what I have available to me. You do use a lot of click bait in your video's that is why I don't subscribe. I sell everyday items to everyday people, there are not a lot of high brands where I live. Being such a poor community people wear their good clothes until they are falling off. We do have a walmart that is where people get their good clothes from. Ebay just supplements my income, if it doesn't make enough to pay the car insurance and buy groceries then we cut back on what we eat. Lately though it has been allowing for me to sneak some back into savings. After selling for over 8 years I have learned do not count on ebay as your only income source.
925 and My Go 2 Tape. Here's my take: Those who aren't willing to put in the work are the first to be critical of those who do. If he/she wants to be a content creator as well as a reseller, instead of bitching about others's success, man (or woman) up and do it. Whiners drive me crazy. If you settle for last place, that's where you'll be. Take care, Kevin - you're doing a great job.
My Go 2 Tape! 925
You probably do have more ability to shut down due to being on UA-cam. But, no one has to watch you., but we all do. You work hard at UA-cam and it pays. Many people could never put themselves out there and be on camera for many reasons. You also work hard at selling. If people work at something, it pays!!
Wow...that comment about "real" resellers. Jealousy is a bad color to wear. Besides I'm pretty sure you are real, I'm pretty good at spotting CGI.
Every summer I go back to Canada to visit friends and family (I'm a Canadian living in France) so I close my eBay for 2 to 3 1/2 months every summer. And then during the rest of the year I will close (hard close ) when needed. In France they have a lot of holidays so for me it's less stress to do hard close each and everything I need.
But when in Canada, I do sell a bit on Posh (have an account with them as I still have an address in Canada, banking, credit card etc) because I find it hard resisting thrifting lol
I never shut my store down, but when I need some time off to organize or for a vacation, I'll adjust my shipping from every day to 5 days and I'll schedule listings in advance for the days I'm off. I don't want the week of slow sales that always seems to happen when you restart your store after a shutdown. Use scheduled listings; keep it rolling.
925 my go to tape 😊thanks for sharing I really do appreciate it. I started selling in October and it's going well. I watch you and a few others and I really appreciate your advice and how you do things it really helps!
You are a real reseller. You give so much information and it’s appreciated.
As for Dave ,I really don’t like you being grouped with him.
925 My first time watching you! Coming to you from an old video of Part Time Pickers! I like style of your videos, keep up the great work!
#925 Hi Kevin, I put my store on a soft shut down for the week between Christmas and New Year. I shipped out all the sold items in the first two days after returning. First shut down of any kind in 18 months. In 2024 I will (probably) shut down for a week in the summer and two weeks at Christmas. Sales continue to roll in and with the exception of a shipping delay during the soft close I am well on my way to a great year.
Already “won” a MyGo2Tape” from you so I won’t enter my name for this drawing. I have already ordered more from them as it is great tape at a great price.
I think everybody should take vacation :-) I do a soft shut down. I usually allow sales and I also work on my eBay store because I have more time on vacation than in my normal working life. That’s become problematic in the last year because eBay doesn’t like people to list and be on vacation at the same time :-) but I’ve kind of figured it out and I think you need to always do what works for you and your family.
925; my go to tape. 😊 Thanks for shring such valuable info that benefits resellers! I'm still pretty new and i appreciate the info!
I soft shutdown my store this year for Christmas and New years. Surprisingly I still sold over 20 items which is good for me a part timer. I will also shutdown for early summer break. It was a good mental break.
I just fill my draft bank up to 10 drafts for each day I will be gone. Then I can just post the 10 drafts each day and enjoy my time, I also put my store on a delayed shipping program.
925 and go to tape. Just bought bubble boy! Love your positivity. Haters will be haters, you do well staying above that. I’m sure social media throws a lot of good and bad.
Hello Kevin my husband and I came across your videos on Facebook at the beginning of last year and we started our own Ebay. We have learned so much by watching your videos, Thank you.
925 - Amazon FBA allows us to keep selling while we are unavailable to ship, however we do a soft close on eBay occasionally when we are traveling.
Ridiculous to think that a business owner can't take time off. There is a lot fake machismo in reselling as if having to work 24/7 selling coffee mugs is something to be proud about... it isn't.
I know alot of people will say hey just ignore the negative comments... sometimes there's people out there who take that negative criticism and use it to boost their confidence... challenging themselves to do better... when I first started doing this my wife was like why you doing this you're not gonna stick w it... there's a mess here a mess there stuffs not going to sell or whatever basically the same thing I heard from my own mom... but you know what I've sold alot of stuff last year that I never thought would sell... I want to see a doubling in my sales for 24... I'm not letting anything hold me back anymore
When it's a vacation time for me,I just go click the time away button, set up my schedule and go,I don't care what haters say, I'll make money regardless cause having vacation time helps to clear your mental health and enjoy life more and when I'm on time away, i always let every paid coustomer know that I'm on vacation and will ship thier order when i get back and they say no problem enjoy your vacation,, and they understand and dont 😢 about it,the only reason why haters 😢 about other sellers taking time away is cause they're jealous cause they can't do it cause they don't know how to take a break cause all they care about is trying to make 💵 when they can't, don't let haters negatively stop you from living your life and make that 💵..🤑👍
Aloha
Always look forward watching both channels first thing in the morning. It brightens the start of my day hearing your wisdom and watching and listening to your buying tactics.❤🎆🍕

I cannot help but laugh. I shut down every month after being open for sales two days at the start of the month. I guess your would call it a hard shut down since you can't see any inventory when closed. I know this must irritate people but I have my reasons for doing this for the ime being. I do get people sending messages then asking me to message them when I am open again. I gross a grand total of $300-$400 doing this. My inventory is building much faster than it is going out the door doing this.
925 My Go 2 Tape, I totally agree, blaming eBay just removes accountability.
925 and MY GO 2 TAPE. Only been at this since September so no need yet to shut down. But when the time comes I will not hesitate to shut down for time with family.
Im not sure if I should feel bad for you for having to endure that onslaught of messages, or feel happy for you that you struck youtube content gold lol. The best return story i habe is a person requesting bus fare to return the item "per ADA requirements" I'm no expert, but thats a stetch for ADA requirments 😂.
I think these people who call you a fake reseller are just mad or jealous that they don’t have a successful UA-cam channel I am an self employed architectural draftsman and part time reseller it is hard work harder than my drafting work it would be nice to have the extra income from UA-cam but I realize my limitations and I have a face for radio and not a personality for UA-cam lol love your fake channel
Just imagine if you were an elected official - all the soreheads come to every meeting, and complain about everything. Most of the people here in the village are very nice, but the ones who aren't are demanding immediate attention to their problems. I've developed a pretty thick skin, and don't mind telling people sorry, we don't have the money to pave your driveway, since it's 314th on the priority list.
925. I do both types of time away just as you have done. And I do so several times a year. I am part time but consider myself a real reseller! Gross sales over $60k
925 my go to tape. Just started flipping and got my first eBay sale this past weekend. Would be awesome to start with a stockpile of tape! 🎉🎉
925 and my go to tape. Still learning, learning by watching. Thanks for the lessons.
925 & My Go 2 Tape -
Fairly new reseller still trying to find our way.
What's the point of working for ourselves if we cant take time for family and fun!!!
Christine & John
I ❤my go to tape! Also, I do a soft shut down for 3 days every 3 weeks. I am getting chemo and I could not ship during those 3 days. I am a real reseller…just like you!
If that person has been selling full time for a number of years now and still can’t shut the store down for a vacation. That person might as well do 9-5. Jealousy is real. On the other hand, another great video.
I teach full time and do reselling to make ends meet. I only do soft shutdowns if I am going to be away from home for more than 4 days. Primarily between Dec 26-Jan 1 and a week in the summer.
I do a hard shut down whenever I feel I need to take a break. I do this for my mental health. I am not a full-time reseller, but I do depend on my eBay funds a lot. For example, we haven’t been on vacation in 10 years and we are taking one this year because I saved my funds from eBay.
My Go 2 Tape thanks again. I guess I should watch the whole video before I comment!
I am new part time reseller.( 6mos.).so no vacation yet but I wish people could just be kind to each other. We are all here doing our thing our way.
I have not shut down my store in my first year of reselling. I'm tied to my farm and it keeps me around home and the family all year long. It's been a few years since we have had a vacation but will shut down the store when that time comes. 925 and my go2 tape.
A clp of questions if you don’t mind me asking since watching people that resale I go to thift stores I use google to research stuff I’ve bought stuff started eBay but nothing how can I get started
I need my GO 2 TAPE!!! I hate using USPS tape cuz it always rips! 😂😂😊
925 or My Go 2 Tape would be a great asset to have!❤ I learned years ago to not let people bother you! They are not living your life!! The majority of us thrive to see your videos to learn from.
Sorry, not a reseller. Since I have found ur channel, I just enjoy listening to your comments and advice. I feel u r a great person and father. I am going to search ur eBay store and perhaps b a first time buyer on eBay from ur store.
925 My go 2 tape
I have learned a lot watching not only you but others on here. Thank you for all your insights on reselling!!
925. Keep doing you! Your videos and advice are genuine and extremely valuable.
925 my go to tape. I’ve only been selling since I retired 2 years ago, so I haven’t taken any time away from selling yet.
925&go to tape
How did they come to the conclusion that you and Dave were fake resellers?
925 & my go to tape. Thanks for your videos. They are entertaining and informative.
At this point of my life I can't afford to shut down my shop .... but if I could ... I would take time off once in a while. I think it's up to the business owners if they want to take time off or not.
925 and my go 2 tape. Celebrating my 1 year anniversary selling on eBay today, thanks for the content as always, looking forward to another year of reselling
Any recommendations on a freight shipper to send a medical patient lift device on a pallet? Thank you
Sorry. I really have only done that once. Many many years ago.
@@commonwealthflipper no worries Kevin, thank you
Would love to have one of your logo stickers, and business card..!!🤗🤗🤗
Don't worry, if you are not a "real reseller", then the haters aren't real viewers or real commentators. It's all an illusion. They don't even exist. 🤣
I have been watching your content since I started at the end of last year. I have learned a lot, Christmas week was the first time I put my shop on vacation mode, hard shut down. Once it was back off, I continued to get sales. Was astonished at how easy it was to be on pause for a moment. Love it!
I’ve been reselling since August of last year, but only really started properly listing and sourcing since October. Thus far I’ve made over $1K on my eBay store maintaining 50-100 items on my shop.
Definitely will be expanding it this year, I just scored a a few hundred beanie babies for a great price at my flea market. Most if not all In mint condition.
What are your thoughts on Beanie babies? I think they’re great to make $5-10 profit. Especially if you’re able to find super rare ones with errors and all.
Love watching your content!
I do this on the side with a part time job. To fill in when I’m short hours at work. I’m wanting to pay off my debt. But in hopes I can make this my full-time job. Because I love it! can’t wait to see where reselling take me this year.
It’s also been very helpful, at the moment because my spouse recently lost his job, I think being knowledgeable in selling helps in these unfortunate moments. To be able to supplement extra cash. When it’s needed.
I’ve found that beanie baby’s are really really tough to sell. They aren’t really valuable at all even with errors. Lot of work .. hopefully you do good on them!
@@itzhawkins The reason I got them was because they are all in mint condition tag and everything, also I was able to get them for $0.90 a piece. Over 400 pieces. It was a collector’s pile. Most of them are rare. A few valuable ones.
I think they sell great even for around $6 a piece. Most that I have I believe are worth between $15-20. And some $50-$100 because of their rarity. Also, they’re Easy to ship. I’m going through the process of organizing them right now, perhaps I will make a video showing my findings.
Thank you for the feedback 😌
925 and My go to tape. People's rude comments are so annoying. Love your videos.
Mygototape. It's interesting to hear about the differences in shutting down the store. We haven't because we're retired and doing this as a side hustle so not as busy as you and many other sellers.
925 my go 2 tape Thanks for sharing you all have a blessed day in the name of Jesus Christ.
My go to tape 925 I wasn't going to comment but I had to tell you, I can't stop looking at your shirt!
you always wear awesome tshirts on your videos, thanks for uploading your content
925 and my go 2 tape - Thank you for all your knowledge and amazing videos
What a crazy comment that person left! If they’re a true reseller they can turn reselling into a vacation! We take 1-2 long vacations a year and we added 3 Thrift-cations last year and NEVER stopped selling. Just added an extra day to time away so we could get things packaged stress free.
