  • Ever wondered what a chart is trying to tell us and how they are used to navigate? Today we take a look at charts used for 'Standard Instrument Departures' otherwise known as SIDs! Charts used: navigraph.com/...
    Check out www.320simpilot.com for guides, reviews and more!

    I am a real world Airbus pilot with thousands of hours flying the real aircraft and thought it would be fun to have a look at the new detailed simulation of the longest baby 'bus by Toliss as well as the new MSFS a320 NEO. Hopefully you find this useful and it brings another perspective to your simulation. Any thoughts or comments are welcome!

    What sort of jackass would “thumb down” this video? This is why we can’t have nice things... I’ve been flight simming since flight sim 98 and I’ve learned more by watching your videos for the last few months than I have in the last 20+ years. Thank you for your time, and the obvious care and effort that you put towards this channel. I am very grateful for the knowledge that you are sharing with us. Although I’m in the US, I hope I get the opportunity to have you as my captain some day!

      Are you a member of The Captains Discord group? I can honestly give it a 5* recommendation. It’s members are like minded people who love flying, and the majority of them have forgotten more about the technical side of computing and related swimming than I shall ever know.

      I'll tell you who. You know the people who smirk or laugh when someone randomly falls over in the street, them. Why do they like creating negativeness? Well to understand this you gotta go quite far down conspiracy lane, but essentially the wild kid who runs rampant screaming wears down the adult looking after him far/her far quicker than himself. The energy transfer is real. If they can't get any, they will not like it.

    Now this is highly appreciated! What a great video. Finally someone that manages to explain charts in a calm and informative fashion. I've always found reading charts as quite a struggle. A lot of the other videos rush through it and just assumes the viewer knows half of the terminology and chart details from before. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming :)

    As always I learnt a “little something extra” I didn’t fully appreciate before watching the tutorial. I’ve said it many times before, but your intuitive unhurried form of delivery makes understanding the more involved sections of the tutorial easy to follow........and hopefully some of may even sink in🤓👍

    Great content, as usual! A note on the Automatic Changover/handoff at Schiphol on vatsim: most controllers will give you the opportunity to switch to departure yourself, but will otherwise tell you to contact departure if you're getting well above 2000 ft as we're aware most people don't always read this line on their charts. So that's no issue but you definitely get bonus points if you do it yourself! For arrival charts you can use Schiphol as well if you revisit this point because there's also auto handoff between tower and ground after arriving.

    Hello 320 Sim Pilot! I'll try to make this as short as possible. Your tutorials and videos are simply brilliant! As a private pilot in real life (although I have not flown in many years due to financial reasons), I am currently training to fly the A320 neo using the dev FBW mod on MFS 2020 thanks to your videos on UA-cam and it has been very very helpful and enjoyable too. I just can't get enough! I am not getting my 8 hours sleep at night and it's all your fault lol. I find that flying the Airbus itself in general is quite easy but the hardest for me at this time is to program the MCDU the proper way before flying as I have never really used it before but I am slowly getting the hang of it thanks to you! I also do enjoy when you mention all sort of little details about your real life experiences as a professional pilot, it's also what gives you the edge as people who are passionate about aviation want to know all about what's it like in the real world. Hmmmmm that wasn't too short was it? :o) A huge thank you for everything you're doing!!! Please do keep the videos coming! Hoping that you will get back in the air ASAP ;-)

  • @mikebakkeyt
    @mikebakkeyt 3 роки тому

    Excellent. I "kind of" understood the charts before this but I now understand I didn't :-) What *really* makes the difference in this tutorial is not so much what is written on the chart - it's about the details of the departure process ie. how altitudes are controlled and what controllers are likely to do. Can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to the STAR equivalent as that is where things get busy and I can get behind the aircraft. When it's time to do the approaches it would make my day if you could use EGLL 9L/9R from LAM as I find it near impossible to make the descents to intercept level if I adhere to restrictions... LAM30 shows as 7000 (MHA) and within a very short time we step down 6000 to 3500 to 3000 and based on the 3/1 ratio I don't see how it's possible.... I get that controllers will give probably better vectors IRL but presumably the procedure is the fallback in the absence of instruction.

    As always another very informative video and I hope that with further viewing I will understand how to read charts better. It has raised an old issue for me in respect of constraints. I am concentrating on the FBW A320 Leap and I can't get my head around what I need to do to get the aircraft to follow the constraints programmed in the flight plan in the MCU because the aircraft just continues to cruise altitude even in managed mode. There must be something I am missing.

    I tried charts but I think they are a pain to use because there are so much pages. I never know what page I need. I now use little NavMap. This is really nice. All deparures and approaches are in there (it can also talk to Xplane and f.i. track your plane (but I do not use that). You use the airports an departure and approace. I does fuelplanning, gives radio frequenties, weather info etc. And it is freeware.

    Great fan of the channel, and learned so much here. You made me try out the proper SID and STAR ways :) I got a question though (for whoever possibly knows). I performed a flight from Frankfurt to Cairo in the 32NX , planning it all manually into the computer up including correct take off and SID. When arriving at last proper waypoint I listened to Cairo ATIS for active runway to configure the FMS with the appropriate STAR. Then the lovely message that MSFS stopped working. Hate that when youre nearly there, Would this be a system issue on my side (PC specs, although running i7/32 RAM/1070gfx), or just a glitch in the program (live settings, online real weather etc). Guess anyone's guess is as good as mine :(

    I have a question. Are you having issues with the TCA throttle with the newest custom fbw update? I just figured it out and now it is the same as before I redid the calibration file under work but to no avail. Any suggestions?

      I got the same problem. After fbw introduced a new installer for their aircraft, and I used it to update to the last experimental version, the thrustleaver settings got all wrong. Idle is now at full revers?? I see that in the «Comunity» folder, the A32NX has gotten an all new name. It also looks like they no longer uses the «ThrottleConfig.ini» file in the «Works» folder anymore, so there is no way to adjust the leavers. At least, not that I know of 😀

      @@chaophraya8003 Yep same. Maybe I am wrong but I still have the throttle config thing but it has no effect. Replaced the text and everything. I’m sure there will be an update but was just wondering if 320simpilot mnew anything cause it seems like he has early access to updates.

      @@chaophraya8003 I recently purchased the officer pack. The same happened to me, I was so baffled and just could not figure out what was happening. I ended up calibrating the thing like 5 or 6 times and uninstalling and reinstalling the firm ware and drivers. After doign this, it still did not work, as I lunched the sim, and the dents still would not match, only the TO/GO detent. Then I once again, closed the sim, calibrated it AGAIN, and then lunched the sim again, and it magically works now. Pretty sensitive from idle to climb, I will have to check that, but the detents now match. To be honest, that is all I did, but I still have NO idea what the issue really was, or what fixed it... I just tried and tried.

      I want to add, I also initially followed FBWs recommendation, changing the text within the throttle file and what not, and it never worked. I can say, that after redownloading the firmware, custom FBW version and calibrating repeatedly, as I said above, I lunched it, and at that point, I lunched it without even having replaced that text. It worked, so I thought: Ok, I will just leave it as it is now... At least it works now...for unknown reasons.

      What you need to do is edit the throttle.ini file that was created in your setup and change the value of Climb_Detent from 0.06 to 0.01. When I did that, my climb detent matched in the sim and on the hardware. The docs on the throttle.ini file are not helpful tbh

    Did I break the rules? Because of this video I answered 'Yes' when my FI asked if I had any familiarity with charts.

    A question to the RMA Charts. Sometimes I see two altitudes, one of them in brackets. What does it stand for?

      Are you referring to the "MDA (DH)" notation where MDA is barometric altitude whereas DH is radio altimeter height above ground?

    Can you manually add those waypoints into the MCDU (Ex. LON6A) or is the only way to add them by specifying the SID?

    • @320SimPilot
      @320SimPilot  3 роки тому

      It is possible to type them in on the real aircraft but you almost never need to. The MSFS navigation system is not able to deal with that properly yet however.

    A shame that the altitude restrictions are incorrect in MSFS and there is no way to edit them when they are part of a procedure.

      Hi this is the same video but the middle section has been re recorded and the charts are now hopefully bigger and clearer. There were a few issues with the original.

    Hello, 320.
    I have a question for you, though it is rather irrelavent. (I have no idea what the actual spelling or irrelevent is, CLEARLY) but here's the question: Why are the throttle levers on the Airbus called a quadrant even though we have only 2 levers? Thanks.

    • @AC-rn1ch
      @AC-rn1ch 3 роки тому +1

      I always assumed it is because the angular movement of the levers is about 90°, hence a quadrant of a full circle

      Chartfox is a good example but you would need a VATSIM accounr for it.
