Coming from a diehard DS fan from day one, I think this is a great way to re-experience the original game. Don’t get me wrong the 2008 original was nearly flawless, but was limited by the hardware at the time. But the remake re-envisions how the game was supposed to look. Dark, gritty, a genuine uneasy feeling to the Ishimura that really immersed me while playing. Reminded me alot of the Alien franchise which I absolutely love. This game should be used as a precedent for how to properly re-make a game. Staying faithful to the original story and setting, And only making subtle and minor gameplay tweaks that just work and make the game feel that much more real and immersive. Not to mention I think Motive did a fantastic job with the character design and dialogue, Issac feels more like a real character we can sympathize with compared to the silent creepy version of Issac we got in 2008. Overall, This game blew me away in almost every aspect and I strongly recommend playing this version of the game, how the game was meant to be played and experienced from the very start.
You're spot on here mate and thank you for bringing up Alien because I was getting that vibe a lot as well! Motive made something really special here and I'd love to see more from them!

I love watching Sphere Hunters (Suzi’s) take on how this game was heavily inspired by RE4 and playing this remake really shows the love and attention to detail this game has. They improved and added so much to this game that really helps improve the experience for near and old players. I hope this helps push the series to remake the 2nd one too. It’s seriously a treat to play this and RE4R this year. This is definitely a game of the year contender for me. This game is definitely worth every penny especially after buying Callisto. @@MayorHairBear If the sales of this go well and a DS2 remake recieves the same reception, it could potentially setup for the revival of the Dead Space universe with new games. I played the hell out of the first Dead Space game. It was my first video game I ever played. I bought it with my first console the PS3, and may have beaten it like 15 or more times. I hadn't played it in over 10 years and wasn't going to get the remake until I saw how crazy all the review guys were going. I'm almost at the end of the game now and I honestly feel like I'm playing the same game with a slight graphic improvement. I mean it's cool to play again but I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about because whatever changes were made almost went unnoticed, and were negligible at best. Kinda angry I didn't wait for the under 10 bucks sale or gamepass.
I recently went back and played the original in preparation for the remake and so, I think that really helped me notice the changes and differences that I otherwise wouldn't have. Obviously everyone has there own opinions though and I have seen others share your sentiment so, great for some not worth it for others
I agree completely with what you’re saying. I kept having the feeling that I’ve already played this. I got to chapter 8, but now that Hogwarts is out I just want the Dead Space disc out of my console!
With tax it's like $100 Canadian so even tho I love the series, I'm gonna wait for a heavy sale. It looks like a fantastic remake on the level of RE1 on gamecube but I can't justify spending that much on 1 game with everything else coming out this year.
DS remake is just like RE2 remake or Black Mesa(Half Life 1) has done for fans or gamers. It is a way to experience old legendary games in a new and refreshing way.
I'd love to see the 3rd game redone as a purely single player experience, no shared ammo, no weapon crafting (just new upgrades and maybe new weapons), and suits that actually have purpose, and the final dlc tied into the games playthrough.
I'd personally make it a pure prequel. The premise and setup is largely still the same. THE Sovereign Colonies Armed Forces has sent an expedition to Tau Volantis to track down an alien power source to help in the war effort. They found the Markers and the native civilization that succumbed to the necromorph threat hundreds of thousands of years ago. The expedition soon falls to that same threat and in desperation to stop the necromorphs from reaching other human colonies decided to activate their liquidation protocol. Killing all personnel and scuttling or disabling all transport. The protagonist is a Specialist in the SCAF Army as a repair tech, who has managed to avoid the liquidation protocol and is now trying to survive and escape off the frozen planet by repairing one of the disabled shuttles. In terms of gameplay: It is a true survival horror game. Combat is discouraged for the most part. All enemies roam around. They also spawn regularly to replace previously killed enemies. Supplies are limited now that enemies *do not drop anything upon death.* There two maps in the game. The first is the Tau Volantis Colony. Which is the planetside large open world map of the SCAF. With numerous sections and enterable buildings. The second is the SCAF Expedition Fleet. Which is in orbit. Very much similar to the original Dead Space 3 but with all ships expanded upon and redesigned to be fully explorable. The Specialist starts out with an less than effective assault rifle that's used more for stunlocking and "blinding" enemies by destroying their heads. Mining and engineering tools that are designed to cut or crush rock and metal must be scavenged and modified to be used as weapons. Weapons are now more role oriented. Cutting tools are perfect dismembering bone, but are not effective in feeling off the fleshy armor of necromorphs. Weapons that are great at cutting bone, but not at removing the fleshy armor implemented by the peeling system. Weapons that are great at destroying flesh or knocking down and blasting away enemies for breathing room, but do little damage to bone. These tools are also used to interact with the environment. By creating barricades, entry and exitways, and pathways by cutting and pinning metal objects to surfaces. With the above changes, ammunition is now more important than ever. Weapon crafting is now significantly downgraded. Relegated to only jury rigging, repairing, and cobbling the necessary preset parts together from dismantled tools. Subsequent New Games and New Game + by default has an item randomizer. So key items, weapon parts, ammo, etc placement is randomized.
If you played it. Obviously it’s just prettier with a couple smart tweaks to some gameplay and story specs. But it’s a wonderful experience for newcomers. So OGs wait a bit for a sale. And new players COP THIS SHIT.
@Carlos mendoza it's better not to play games on their release day because they are at their highest price during that time and are constantly getting bug fixes updates and reviews it's better to buy them when they are cheaper updated and well reviewed.
I'm half way done with the remake. This game is rated from me 9.5. This what most gamers want, good controls, graphics, at least a pretty good storyline and not broken and glitchy. And lots of options so it's not repetitive. Don't know why that can't do this with these new IP's
I disagree with your take on The Last of Us Part 1. It's very similar to the Dead Space remake, maybe DS did slightly more to improve things but it's still ultimately Dead Space 90% how I remember it (I've played that game like 10 times). A few more puzzles and Issac talks more (which isn't always a positive for me). They were both awesome games from the PS3 era that didn't really 'need' a remake but they ended up improving the games with a remaster and that's now the definitive way to play the game. I would not want to go back to the PS3 or PS4 version of the TLoU. Part 1 with the smooth animations, redone levels/textures/assets, gore system. It's glorious. Whether or not that is worth $70 dollars is another story but both games are awesome updates to previously awesome games.
Here's the thing with The Last of Us Part 1 because I do agree I don't have a desire to go back to the single player with how the story is presented in the Remake I mean it's stunning. The issue for me is the pricing which is $125 Australian Dollars as opposed to Dead Space's $89. It's a big difference to which I still have to go back to the remaster if I want to play the multiplayer. It is not worth the asking price and as someone who went back to the OG Dead Space in preparation for this video, visually, atmospherically, sound design, gameplay wise, story wise it all makes the product in my opinion vastly better. I didn't get that outside of the story/ cutscenes for The Last of Us and they're charging me $30+ more
I think the second game holds up better than any of them. That game on pc ultra in 4k honestly looks as good as this remake imo. The third one is the one that needs the most help because of the gameplay alone
YES thank you for asking aloud my inner thought about this at (07:54)! Ever since the TLOU I felt the same as yes its just a visual upgrade (which to me should be called a remaster) when moved to the PS5, no changes (outside of extreme minor, accessibility and visual). However I would be the odd one out and say do not remake DS2 but instead COMPLETELY remake DS3! :P DS2 still stands the test of time and was glorious to play and if anything I would take a remaster with better graphics, sorta the Demons Souls remake treatment! But DS3.... no, full Motive REMAKE but more key changes especially to the mechanics, getting rid of or improving the co-op (I.e. Don't lock off coop exclusive mission or just allow SP access) + get rid of the scavenger bot & buying resource packs like SERIOUSLY! XD Anyway great review!
I'm surprised that EA even cares about bringing this game back? It's good I'm really surprised and shocked about it. This is how game developers should do a remake not some cheesezy half-ass remastered.
They saw Capcom remaking dusty classics, and EA decided to look at what it had in its toy box. This was simply business and analyzing the field…not them caring. However, they only have the terribly bland and derivative “Dead Space” series to play with, but hey - people are falling over themselves to relive that first game.
@@joshuaDstarks but you can't even deny that it's not a good remake. i just finished it yday and i was fullly engaged. i played it a long time ago and it was refreshing and worth the money
This remake is essentially the answer to a question. "What would Dead Space look like if it was made in 2023?" It's a marvelous idea. Using updated graphics to enhance the enviroment, going back to Dead Space 2 and using most of the ideas and things that worked there to really refine the making of the definitive Dead Space game. If they do consider remaking the second game, i don't know how they would make it better than what they did here.
You hit the nail on the head here, this is the perfect way to remake a beloved title and make sure it feels different whilst staying true to its roots. I have no idea how they'd remake DS2 but I now have faith they'd figure out a way!
It's a hard sell for $70 when you can play the OG one for $3 on sale. Have platinumed the remake and yes it's good but not worth $70 unless you are a huge fan of the first game. What is more important for me is that if this remake sells well, we will see more AAA survival horror campaigns moving forward.
It’s good but this game hurts my eyes a little. Not sure what it is. Frame rate, motion blur , too many detailed textures. Playing on performance mode and turned off all motion blur. Wish it was 120 fps at 1080. Probs it would help
@@MayorHairBear BTW, I only stopped watching after I finished this comment. I am a big dead space fan and I got this game on preorder which is pretty cool.
I played dead space back in middle school in 08 remember beating it.....and never going back lol half of it was that, that whole Game was stressful to play. Every step I took felt like it could be my death. And I legit thought the Game would give me a heart attack lol the other being that I'm more into high octane action set peace Games. I think dead space 2 is the greatest action game ever made tho. When it comes to the remake I'm actually shocked by how much I enjoy this game vs the original. It's the best horror Game ever made. If they make a dead space 2 remake. I would honestly say it would probably be the greatest game of all time in my opinion. And I don't give that to any game. Heck hardly any game I play I would give above a 8. Dead space remake is a 8.75 so far lol
I probably shouldn't have played the original so close to release. Every time I go to purchase it my brain immediately block me and says we already know what's gonna happen. I should've left it.
I went back and played the original maybe a week or two before release. Now obviously my situation is a little different as this is my job so I have the benefit of making content that then makes some money back on my purchase but what I will say is at whatever price point your comfortable with, pick the game up when you can. As someone who had the original fresh in mind the remake still blew my mind and is worth picking up!
Ive never played Dead Space but i just got done with Callisto Protocol and the story was almost non existent.. Dont get me wrong, The gameplay/graphics were decent but it was a whole lot of walking with almost no Story.. Very repetitive when it came to the monsters.. Is Dead Space anything like that?
If you haven't played Dead space before it will be awesome. I played the original countless times and am almost done with the remake, but I like the Calisto Protocol better maybe because it was like a breath of fresh air with a new spin on the Dead Space formula with syper amazing graphics that even the remake doesn't even compete with. If you have played the original Dead Space, in my opinion, it's definitely a wait for sale. Watching the reviews cause me to rush and buy it and I regret not just waiting. The few changes that were made didn't make enough impact for me to be ranting and raving like most.
I don't think Dead Space has ever been "scary," and that sentiment is coming from a paranoid coward. It works really well as a schlocky sci fi horror B movie kind of action game, though. Lots of weird monsters and splatter violence for their own sake, real popcorn game. Let's hope EA doesn't screw it up again.

@UnknownBurger how did I miss that lol. I'm subbed too ☺️
@@XxVendetaxX1 His content is good reminds me of SkillUp honestly
@UnknownBurger I sadly don't like skill up. There's something about him that I find deceiving.
In short I really enjoyed The Callisto Protocol, not as good as I was hoping but I had fun with it
Idk if you have but I would love to see videos on the evil within series or the 3d castlevanias like lords of shadow 1-2 and mirror of fate
I have not but I do love The Evil Within!
This remake is essentially the answer to a question. "What would Dead Space look like if it was made in 2023?"
It's a marvelous idea.
Is water wet?
You'd think its that simple but read some of the comments mate, this isn't unanimous!
I was 25 when i played this. Was too scared to finish it lol just got it on ps spring sale
The crawlers are the creepiest in the game lol they gave me nightmares as a kid
Short answer is YES!!
A 10 minute video is my short answer 😂
It’s good but this game hurts my eyes a little. Not sure what it is. Frame rate, motion blur , too many detailed textures. Playing on performance mode and turned off all motion blur. Wish it was 120 fps at 1080. Probs it would help
yes
To keep it straight forward, yes, it's anything a dead space remake is for.
I completely agree!
@@MayorHairBear BTW, I only stopped watching after I finished this comment. I am a big dead space fan and I got this game on preorder which is pretty cool.
Only if EA took care of Madden the same way
Oh Madden, so much jank 😂
When he called her Nicci I started crying
I love the remake but one thing I will say is that the sound design is far superior in the original dead space, my opinion.
If they do metal gear solid 1 like this it's over it will be the best game ever made just like it was in 98
I played dead space back in middle school in 08 remember beating it.....and never going back lol half of it was that, that whole Game was stressful to play.
Short answer NO, long answer NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I think i will go for platinum
Good luck on the impossible mode
I'm considering it, Impossible mode worries me but I'm sure maybe on a New Game + it could work out a little better!
No more Superman jumps?! Dumpster fire of a remake! Jk
@@MayorHairBear I can definitely still see myself buying the game some years later. Just got to try and forget about it a little bit first.
I've just bought it and it is a top game
It is but don't let anyone fool you, the game definitely has problems. Anyone says it's perfect isn't playing the same game I am
Lets hear them
We really need a DS3 remake because that story was ass and they did my girl ellie dirty. Badass in Dd2, damsel in 3
Yeah to remake 3 is the biggest task of the series, so many changes need to be made to bring that game up to the quality of 1 and 2
@@MayorHairBear plus if these remake do well will find fond out what happen at the end of the dlc ending
The remake is fantastic. I’ve played the original a dozen times easily. Only game that makes me scream like a little girl lol
Shi is scary mate I don't blame you 😂
Couldn't platinum it, huh? Haha I didn't feel like playing it twice either.
I do need to go back to this one 😂
If EA doesn't kill it off again sure
That's a good point!
60 DOLLARS USD
Ive never played Dead Space but i just got done with Callisto Protocol and the story was almost non existent.. Dont get me wrong, The gameplay/graphics were decent but it was a whole lot of walking with almost no Story.. Very repetitive when it came to the monsters.. Is Dead Space anything like that?
Who has the horrible bug problems ? Low resolution/frame rate
Still going through Callisto protocol. Hopefully will go on sale by the time I’m able to get around to DS
Dead Space is a must buy whenever you get the chance definitely buy it it’s such a massive improvement
Do yourself a favour. Stop playing Callisto protocol, delete it and forget it ever existed
@@Cncguru-wl9hn Callisto isn’t that bad, but it’s definitely rough along the edges
I don’t see this game going on sale for a decent while
If you haven't played Dead space before it will be awesome.
2008 I was 29...🤦🏾
I'm sorry to do that to you 😂
@@MayorHairBear it's all good 🤣😂
It’s worth buying… If you’re not playing on pc. The pc version is broken. #StutterSpace
its great!
It really is!
Yes it is. I’ve saved you 10 minutes. Get it now.
People usually need a little more convincing than that chief 😂
Dead Space 3 was EA’s fault.
Short answer: Yes
Long answer: Fuck yes
Hell yeah!
No, certainly not on console. Has no aim assist. Zero fun where it is impossible to lock on to a target.
Lmaoo who uses aim assist anymore
Just git gud
It has aim assist in the options, the hell you smoking? You won't need it anyways.
As someone who played on PS5 I had no issue aiming here
I don't think Dead Space has ever been "scary," and that sentiment is coming from a paranoid coward. It works really well as a schlocky sci fi horror B movie kind of action game, though. Lots of weird monsters and splatter violence for their own sake, real popcorn game. Let's hope EA doesn't screw it up again.
Dead space was so lame.
Like this was such a generically boring s*** game
Aside from the political crap. I’d give it a 9/10
... what? What political crap is in it? Do you mean the in universe politics?
@@KingKong-ws6zx The women look more like the women you see in everyday life. Smaller boobs, less cute looking. I want at least an 9.5/10 attractive woman in mah games. I don't want people that look like regular people in mah games cus it's pOLiTicAl! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

@@kovugreen You're acting like the stereotype, please, just relax; I asked him the question genuinely because I haven't seen the remake myself, so I was curious if character details were added where they weren't there before
So glad never played the original, this gonna be too much for on ps5
In case anyone is doubtful about the sounds from watching game comparisons and seeing all the moronic comments.
This game has fantastic sound design. The guns sound amazing, the necromorphs sound horrifying and there are new and old gargles and screams and yells. The most impressive is the ambient sounds, it’s beyond unsettling.
Any comments you’ve seen about how the old game sounded better, those guys haven’t played the game. You aren’t going to get much of an idea on UA-cam video because the quality downgrade.
No, if you want to play it, pirate it.
No it is not at all
And sound design is not better than original I swear people am being paid to say this is good I brought it day release completed it bag of rubbish loads of crashes parts not loading in textures not loading and I got a £3500 pc game is a mess and stomp is weak you run and move like a woman there are no jump scares it’s lame you can’t do a impossible game on new game+ enemy’s just appear from no where rooms have a fog in them for no reason till you kill the enemy then it goes back normal come on tell the truth the games a bad game your just seeing a game you wanted but there is so much wrong with remake it’s stupid and voice acting is bad blood looks like it’s from bio shock keep accepting games like this as good and we will never get new good games or good remakes and I love original dead space 1&2&3 and I own all films I am a fan and this game is just a cash grab by ea
Lay off the drugs mate
