Angel's Trumpet or Brugmansia is a beautiful blooming plant with a great evening fragrance. This one really makes a statement in a container or in your landscape.
Thanks for the great video! We have a huge, I mean really huge Angel Trumpet Tree with hundreds if not thousands of beautiful fragrant flowers for about the past 9-10 years here in SE Georgia! Tree was originally received as a small clipping from a friend, and has been moved and transplanted three times and continues to flourish! Thanks again for this great video. Blessings!!!
My understanding is the reason they're far more fragrant at night is because they are primarily pollinated by moths, which are more nocturnal. Moths creep me out, but I love the plant so much, I can make peace with it.
The reason why they are fragrant at night is because their pollinators are long tongued hawk moths. The moths are only active at night so the plant only wants to attract them during the night. The plants would waste energy and resources producing the scented compounds during the day when their pollinators are not active. Night fragrance is the hallmark of a plant that is exhibiting a phalaenophily.
I love the flowers, I just purchased some and was warned they were poisonous, but aren't most ornamental plants? Thanks for the video.. I am going to plant them now!!!
Wonderful plant, a strong grower as long as it gets lots of sun, water and fertilizer during the summer. It spends winters indoors. My problems with it involves squirrels. They chew the bark. I suppose the squirrels like getting intoxicated. I've set what remains of my plant out in the front yard this year. No trees means no squirrels. Fortunately cuttings are very easy to root. Also I've noticed my plant isn't self fertile. It probably needs another variety to set seed. Mine has large, yellow flowers, very fragrant at night.
Dude, you don't need to snap off flowers to get it to bloom again. Give it plenty of sun, don't let it get dry and fertilize regularly. Where I work we literally have about 300 flowers open and new buds forming.
I grow Brugmansia in the uk, it's quite a challenge as i live in north Norfolk near the coast so it is quite windy most of the time and our weather is a bit unpredictable which means that it flowers quite late in the year. In the uk the plants release there scent at five o'clock on the dot.
We have a similar plant in India, called "Raath ki Raani" ,which literally translates as Queen of the night. The fragrance, starts at about 7 PM, and is over at about 9 PM. They have bunches of small white flowers, the fragrance is overpowering !!! It can easily reach a hundred square feet,
I have a question for you I grow Angels trumpets and ever year they bloom white but this year one of them bloomed white and then the next day it turned pink and we never had them turn pink any ideas why this is happening. Thank you and I hope you or someone can help with this. The pink ones are very beautiful.
Kim Ruppenthal sometimes if a mature plant has. been cross bread Before you got it it wiil revert back to the dominate mother plant. i love it when this hsppens..its exiciting to witness this amazing feat of determination to go back to its original form..I'm very surprised you werent answered by thus question..feel blessed you got to witness it 💖
This plants are amazing! Yes they are toxic but many plants are! Tip do not ingest it! Do not grow it if you have small children or pets that tend to eat plants out in your garden. But don't be fearful of the garden gem!
Was given 3 pieces and planted in full sun, sprouted lots of leaves....after research growing in Florida, I moved them to full to partial shade area. Any suggestions?
+Dee D Fertilize a few times a year. Keep them slightly moist. They love to be gently misted. I prune mine a few times a year, but it's really not necessary just let it go. It will bloom like crazy, if you pull off the spent blooms as this video demonstrates, you'll encourage even more growth but in my experience, it's not necessary with this plant. Wear gloves when handling - they're toxic, some people are very sensitive to this. If you have animals around like to eat weird things, clean up the leaves from off the ground.
Kate W I moved them to a more shaded area, gets a bit of afternoon sun, they stressed a bit, but looking like they are coming back! Thanks for the info.
Lucy Lanuchi yes you can..cut at sn angle the little white nodes will make roots in water change water out every few days so it fresh doesnt take long to root and start leafing out
Nice video. FYI this plant is poisonous. If you have animals or kids around that like to eat weird things, make sure you keep the ground cleaned up. And good idea to wear gloves when working with this plant.
Still so beautiful

I have from 2 years but not growing and no flowers
I never remove the flowers, they just fall off eventually, and continue to grow new flushes of blooms off and on until first frost.

The reason they bloom at night is to attract the hawk moth which is it's main pollinator.
Is this Dr Seuss? I've got exactly the same ...
If you snap off the flower you will never have a seed pod. Leave some the flowers alone so you can grow some from seed.
Hellooo ;)
can you root the Brugmansia from cutting?
Lucy Lanuchi yes you can..cut at sn angle the little white nodes will make roots in water change water out every few days so it fresh doesnt take long to root and start leafing out
Thank You very much
I thought these flowers are very poisonous? you didn't mention anything about that in the video?
This is why they call it the devils breath
Porqué no lo traducía a español, o por lo menos poner subtítulos.
