    Yesterday was my first day actually finding the eggs at the surface of my tank! I’ve been waiting for my frogs to lay eggs since they’re literally always mating 🤣 sometimes for hours at a time haha! Anyways I noticed my beta eating white eggs and that’s when I noticed there had to been eggs somewhere in the tank and sure enough there were white eggs and brown eggs, I scooped out all of the brown eggs and put them into a container. I’m so excited to see what happens thank you !

      shrimps live on the bottom and the eggs float on top so I assume it shouldn't be a huge problem (compared to f.e. gups who eat everything they see). keep in mind the eggs hatch pretty fast and filterage is a no go. i would personally separate them, even if its in a cup or bucket just to be sure. Good luck!

    • @Kloptrip
      @Kloptrip  5 років тому +9

      Frist they eat their eggsack, which gives em food the first 3-4days. Put them in a little reservoir with water from the parents tank. Even a teacup is enough. No filter or airpump. Refresh the water every day from the parents tank. Adding catappa leafs is recommended as first food, they eat the bacteria.
      You also have to set up a live artemia culture if you can, its the most healthy way to feed em to start with.
      If you cant perhaps look for artemia food for babies(dust/very fine powder). Dryfrozen artemia is still too big to eat.
      So basically from day 4-5 catappa leaf and from day 6-7 artemia.
      Feel free to ask more if you need so and good luck!

    Wouldn’t it be easier to set up a heavily planted 5-10 gallon nursery tank? It would have a sponge filter but set to low so there isn’t a lot of turbulence. Pro: You can raise a single spawn batch. Con: You can only raise a 1 spawn batch at a time.
    Idk if I would be able to sell any froglets, I’d grow attached to them.

    • @Kloptrip
      @Kloptrip  3 роки тому +4

      The hard part about that would be for the froglets to find food. I fed em living artemia which is supersmall and would go through the filter right away. Also, as soon as the artemia gets put non-salt water it dies within an hour. In a small environment all seperated, they get food for themselves so they get the right portions without overfeeding or polluting the water.
      I didnt sell the frogs either, that was not my intention. I bought a couple in a shop for 2.5€ per frog so it won't make you a billionair,.
      For me it was just to see if I was able to raise these as I absolutely adore the species.

    Nicely done! Your way probably has a better survival rate, but it requires a lot more time and equipment/space. For me, I just let nature take its course in my densely planted/mossy tank (which has a healthy amount of microorganisms living in it), and now I have 4 young frogs that are about 2.5 months old, living in the same tank with their parents from birth. All I did differently was I stopped trimming the plants or messing with the tank besides adding water and I I fed the tank crushed or very small fish food along with the usual adult food as a precaution. I’m sure my method wouldn’t work well for raising frogs for money though, as once the biggest tadpoles get to a certain size, all the smaller ones start to disappear. You see the eggs and newly hatched tadpoles before free-swimming, but they don’t get much bigger than that. Maybe once the first batch gets as large as their parents, another batch can safely develop and they will ignore them, but then again, maybe not...

      Most will tell you hatching live BBS is essential but, as you’ve stated here, results seem to vary wildly and are totally anecdotal. Though I’m sure live BBS is the most reliable method.
      As for me, my frogs laid two clutches of eggs, numbering around 100 total. Out of that 100, 12 tadpoles have survived and are now about a month and a week old. I did this all without hatching BBS.
      I started by moving them into their own 10 gallon tank, which proved to be just too big to feed them reliably without the use of live food. So once I was down to 12 individuals I moved them into their parent’s old 2.5 gallon tank (the parents deserved the upgrade to the 10 gallon anyway). I am not using a filter.
      From there, I crushed up frog pellets super fine in a bowl using the back of a spoon and introduced into tank twice or more daily. And performed a 15-20% water change daily.
      Once they grew larger and had more defined features, around the 2 or 3 week stage, I began feeding mostly frozen cyclops and daphnia and later began to introduce frozen BBS to the diet as well. They now enjoy all of these. I still feed about twice a day but I make sure to not over clean the tank so they have plenty to snack on. They seem to forage along the bottom and eat suspended food materials in the tank just fine. Again this is probably not the best for water quality but they seem to be thriving and I feel it’s offering them a bounty of food to eat since I’m not using live food.
      At this point they now mostly all have at least the suggestion of legs. The biggest and most developed individual now has functioning legs. I suspect they’ll have arms by the end of next week.

    • @Kloptrip
      @Kloptrip  4 роки тому +1

      Hello @username4200pro1. When the eggs were in separate tanks, i changed the water by a very small tube (from an airfilter). The waterflow in those tubes is small so you can avoid the eggs easy.
      So put the hose in, suck on 1 side to remove the water while you watch the input of the hose not losing eggs.
      It let the water into a bigger but clean bucker incase i sucked eggs into it.
      It might take a while before the water is out at this rate. I did this every day and swapped almost all the water with "fresh" water from the parents tank. Good luck and feel free to let me know how things go!

    • @Kloptrip
      @Kloptrip  4 роки тому +1

      To add : an airpump filter in the babytank is not necessary, it might grow some algae but thats good. It can also disturb your babies food which gets katapulted around, even with low flow. Also dont make the babytank big cause the food might be too spread out,which makes it harder to keep clean.

      The same of the parents' tanks(as refreshing was basically water from that tank), around 7.2 pH(can go upto 8 as long as its stable) and around 24-25°C. Careful with high temps in small tanks, it might influence your ph. Large watercultures are more resilient. These frogs cant take much water instability.

    • @Kloptrip
      @Kloptrip  3 роки тому +1

      The standard rule is 1cm(or 1/2") fishlength per liter. 5 fish of 4 cm length = 20 liter minimum.
      So if he's 4 inch(although from that length i rather think its a female, there are also more female spawns), i would take about 8 liter( or 2 gallon) per frog minimum. I had 8 in a 60 liter tank, i think that was even a bit small. They just need space to chill and sleep, if they got that they gonna be happy.
      About the age. As far as I remember they can get upto 10 years old, so he got quite a few years to go if he stays healthy.
      Keep an eye on your watervalues cause these little ones are pretty sensitive, especially to nitrite which might come with water changes. And give em frozen worms/artemia, powderfood is not enough".

    • @Kloptrip
      @Kloptrip  4 роки тому

      Hi! It's been a while since I read up on this but as far as I remember, in the wild they start mating when the rain season begins.
      I took about 1 to 2 cm's (in height) out per day.
      That way they don't notice a big difference and think it's a normal dryout period.
      When I had about 7-8 cm's in height left which was about 30%(keep an eye out for watervalues!), I filled it back to 100% in one go, water temp about 3-4°C cooler then the tanks water.
      It should work without aswell, as Ive seen them breeding in other tanks but the speed which they triggered on this was really worth mentioning.
      Especially if you wanna keep an eye out for breeding cause filters/skimmers/fish/frogs themselves eat/kill the eggs very quickly.
      Go check often the day of the refill, like every hour. The mating can take long but if the male released the female they're good and you can take eggs out.
      Just don't spook them or they might release.
      Good luck!

    • @Kloptrip

      Hi! good to hear you got some froggies aswell :).
      She does not get pregnant, she just carries eggs which she releases during mating.
      The male releases sperm while hanging on the back thus the eggs get fertilised in the water.
      This means, as soon as you see eggs you gotta take them out.
      You can disturb them during taking out eggs so they release but in the meanwhile your gups can and will eat the eggs aswell. That means you will have to time it somehow.
      If you've isolated the eggs the tadpoles will pop.
