I’ve had my two albino frogs for two years now. They are my babies! I’ve owned fish for most of my life and decided to try my hand at these guys and I now prefer them over any of the fish I’ve ever had. I hope they live to see 20 or 30 years!
My two guys are so goofy. Yes they use their claws to "shovel" food into their mouths... but sometimes that also includes chomping down on their own arms! Spent about 10 minutes pleading with one of my guys to spit out his own hand.
I have a colony of dwarf frogs and today when I was at the pet store I saw a clawed frog and fell in love. Came here on my quest for information. Thank you for the video.
I've wanted one for some time now and my local fish store finally has some in stock so I came to research more before my final decision. Very informative! 😊
@@leeleesscales266 I'm glad they're worth it for you. I've had African Clawed Frogs long ago, but they didn't live long because either they always got sick in some way, or the last one I had died which was my fault because my brother asked me if I wanted to see his live stream and I agreed to that, so I was focused on my PC viewing his stream and wasn't there to make sure the cats didn't mess anything up and the cats knocked the dusty light into the water and it killed her. I can't get over how stupid and irresponsible I was given I made that decision KNOWING the cats were curious about my frog, and I've been thinking about trying again and being more responsible this time than I was before. My last one died just under 5 years old, which is so young for an African Clawed Frog, and it was my fault :(
I just got a ACF by mistake thought he was a ADF. But it’s so cute. Learning about it. In a 16 gallon with 2 loaches so far. A lot to learn 😊 thanks looking forward to info.
Thank you. I'm going to take my bettas and dwarfs from my 20 to my 10. And get 2 Claws for my 20 tank. I have kept bettas and always had swampy/clean aesthetic, last year started getting dwarfs and they remind me so much of my bearded dragon with their 1 IQ ha. Definitely love the idea of a frog duo tank.
My friend is surrendering hers to me and I’m kinda scared because I’ve never done this before and this video is a really good introduction so thank you!! Xxx
Very informative! They will eat a fish same size as them, whole! I learned the hard way at the expense of two female bettas. This was years ago. My female African clawed frog was still growing, so not full size yet that’s why she was in with them. Unfortunately I thought it was safe. You also want to make sure the fish that are with them are not only larger but fast. Because they really do go after anything within range that moves.
Did you know that the African elbino clawed frogs regurgitate the skeleton of a fish in mint condition, it’s perfect structure, flawless! Astragalus out of the ordinary.
Wow... Thirty years...? So I went to my local fish store two days ago to buy some shrimp to put in with my betta... I came home with a little frog, only about 2 cm head to toe... I asked the guy in the shop how big he'll get, he said not much bigger as he's a dwarf frog... Will he be ok with a betta, I asked... Should be, he said... Asked what he ate to make sure I had food for him or if I'd need to buy something else, and brought him home... Took a look at "dwarf frogs" to see if any kinda special care he needs and learned that dwarf frogs have webbed front feet as well as back, whereas clawed frogs only have webbed back feet... I thought sure Mr. Flintstone doesn't have webbed front feet... Went to check, and no, he doesn't... He has claws... He's also not shy... At all... He seems to like his food too, tho he hasn't eaten any of the shrimp... Yet... They're about half his size so far, but after seeing this vid and reading some of the comments, I think I'd better change it up a bit soon as it looks like we're gonna be friends for a long time!
I have an African Clawed Frog who is called Toady - he is practically a family heirloom at this point, being approximately a year older than myself (and I'm gonna be 27 this year). I love your video, really informative! I was wondering, how would you go about introducing a female? When I was a child, we introduced a younger albino (likely male?) who I believe sadly succumbed to Toady as an overnight snack, as we could never locate it after one night. I'm tempted to find Toady some companionship, but have lots of questions. He is in his ripe old years, I know life expectancy for African Clawed Frogs is around 30 years in captivity. Would he still be fertile at his age? As he has been a solo frog apart from the aforementioned incident, would it be upsetting to him to suddenly be introduced to a beautiful big froggy lady? And I'm 100% scared that if I did introduce him a new lady friend that his karma might catch up with him and he be eaten himself 😬😳 I wouldn't want to ruin what he's got going after being with my family for so long, so this is something I'm not looking to rush into, but the idea that he might be able to have some company and maybe even romance in his last years is something I'm considering. If Toady had children, it means a part of him will always be with us, as he has literally always been with me as long as I have been alive, and I can't imagine life without him. Anyways, sorry for the long message! I hope you are doing well and your frogs are too! 😁🐸
Great video. I just got my first frogs (land frogs) and probably won't ever get one of these but i saw them online and was interested in learning about them
Great video, very informative for the novice with frogs! This is one of my favourite tank additions! Along with Giant Danios and Giant Dojo loach it's an active tank, and very entertaining. The Dojo, and the clawed frog will come in your hand to feed! Of course you want to have clean hands as well. My tank community 50 gal: Giant Danios (6) Bala Shark (2) Giant Dojo Loach Pleco Giant Gourami Gold (2) Zebra Danios (4) small, yes, but fast and attentive enough to keep out of the frogs diet! Black Clawed African Frog I know seems like an odd compatibility, but it works! The most important thing is to have a nice tight lid, oxygen exchange is a problem, but I use live plants, and they thrive! The frogs WILL jump out if they can!
I watched your video why waiting in a doctor's office. Very informative. I have one albino femald adult african clawed frog. I am looking for a natural female adult african clawed frog. Any suggestions?
When I was a kid, I got Grow a Frog kit. But the tadpole died because Grow a Frog killed many a frog. Now That I am older, I've been wanting to try and get one. Hopefully I'll get one some day soon. I did have a question, does yours stay active most of the day?
Wonderful video very informative! One thing I wanted to mention, in general they do prefer to have easy access to the air for breathing purposes, so I've learned it's better to keep the water 12 inches deep, or less. I know this isn't always easy to do, especially with the type of tank you have him in, but just keep in mind they love to come to the surface and breath, resting while they do this. Also, they do prefer 70-72 degrees Fahrenheit. When the temperature starts approaching 75degrees or higher they are not going to thrive. Again thanks so much for your videos!
Are these illegal to keep in certain states such as Washington? I read online that they are. Also, can they be kept with other fish? Such as community fish? (Just watching the video)
They are illegal in some states since they are predatory. No, they should not be kept with community fish. They will eat them. You might want to look at dwarf frogs. They look similar but stay small and would be good for some community fish. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@TropicalFishGuy I saw someone was selling them but I live in Washington so I can’t keep them. I used to have dwarf frogs so I’ll get a couple of those instead. Thank you 😊
I’m needing some advice when it comes to tank setup. I’m not sure what decor is safest for my frog. He needs something to sit underneath, as well as some fake plants. If you could recommend what has worked for you that would be great

Just got the clawed frog for my 55 gallon standard rectangle tank like yours. I worry about my gravel being too small now though after watching your video. But the tank is already well established and the natural decor I have it would be a drastic redo for me and I’m not comfortable doing that.. what do you recommend?

It's amazing what these frogs can endure. My uncle had one in a bowl that he never cleaned for like 2 months till I got him to give em to me. Raised it out in a 2 gallon for a bit then transferred him to a 15 gallon once he got a bit bigger and more healthy. Btw we all make mistakes, so as long as you learned from your experience, I see this as a good thing.

Depending on the size of your fish. If they are too small they will get eaten.
i have 14 clawed frogs and i just want to know how many earthworms they eat and i didnt put much water is that ok and i also dont have any type of water pump
Can they live with dwarf frogs?
No, the dwarfs will be eaten eventually.
My frog is 27 years old!
"Mine" is 27 years old too! Actually, he is my 32 year old son's. I am just raising my grand-frog.
How often should you do a water change in a ACF tank??
Once a week for just about anything ((: maybe once every 2 if everything looks good
I do a once monthly full water change but also a weekly 25% change. They produce a lot of ammonia so this helps cut those levels down. 😊
If you don't have a filter a water change twice every week will do.
I used to have some. I like them because they look so strange. Unfortunately, they and my bullfrogs got killed when my mom did a bug bomb while i was at school.
Cool 🤘

How much and how often do you feed the frog pellets? I'm worried about giving too much or too little
They should be fed around 5 times a week, i feed mine every other day and mine is 11, i recommend feeding them blood worms or shrimp
