Her heart broke to the point of apathy towards life itself, but the drive to keep going and hear and see others feeling..it's so well weaved into the story as someone who's playing through for the first time. Hearing all those times when Magi would ask how it makes someone feel...really gives it some more perspective..
She's been used and betrayed 3 times. By her parents, by the trouppe, by Melchior. And had to live through that several more times by the artes. Girl's been destroying and rebuilding her heart for ages. It almost pales Velvet in comparison
yeah any other person would just end it all.
It's hard to believe that she died before Zestiria.
She lived as a legend and died as a legend.
Next time someone complains about Magilou, just show 'em this. There's so much more to her than the book skirt and the weird hat.

When i saw one of my favourite jrpg youtuber put her in his most annoying female characters list i was like wtf. Im glad the comment section was mostly people disagreeing with him on the magilou take lmao

Eh, to be fair, Magilou is pretty annoying when you first meet her. It evens out once you know her background. But it takes a while

In tales of zesteria we learn that magilou became a keeper of tales and she told the story of berseria to a royal family. Who in turn told that story to the new shepherd a thousand years later. There is also a new guy called just mayvin who is also a story teller. So either her descendant or a disciple of her art. Cuz she died at the age of 300+

nintendolife25 in stories you see characters with a dark past when they were children that's why it's hard to understand them but i already knew characters like magilou had such past it's easy to see cus there hiding there smile i though she was a character with much energie but her designh didn't show it
I mean it's predictable that she had a rough past, sure...but, they wrote her from being just comic relief into an in depth characters, in a way that felt very genuine.

Magilou needs her own dlc epilogue, I refuse to believe she died before the events of zestiria. She's to legendary for something as mediocre as death, also who doesn't want to play as her? (Her artes were pretty easy and fun to use) and seeing her meet edna and remeet with zaveid would add a sort of closer also her picking on sorey, mikleo, alisha, rose and lailah would be hilarious to see

Anonoymous User I know how you feel, but unlike the creators of FFXV those from Tales of Berseria are actually talented enough to develop every main character in the game without the need for DLC stories

So basicly the story is like this (that i understand) ..Age of Asgard that Sorey often mentioned in Zestiria is the era when Claudin Asgard, the elected heroic king of Midgand (Past Rolance),the "first actual " shepherd and the master exorcist of Artorious. Melchior Mayvin is Asgard's advisor/partner and they share the same ideal, the world without "human sins" and its malevolence but Asgard is only human, he died meanwhile Melchior learned the life extension arte. Melchior tried to find a new but false "Shepherd" and came across to Artorious, Asgars's student when the event Celica died from the daemons and witnessed the Innominat pre awakening there, told Artorious that the villagers sold his family out to bandits but those bandits was corrupted by malevolence and became daemons, then Melchior and Artorious agreed to join force to create Asgard's idea world,l world without "human sins". When Melchior wanted to do works more freely as the shepherd 's shadow , he searched for a new potential student and found Magilou when she was just an attraction in a circus. Melchior wanted to make Magilou as his successor fro being the advisor of the Shepherd, Artorious and also taught her the life extension art but in the final phase of her test to become the succesor, Magilou failed because Melchior thinks that she has too much "emotions or she can't supress her own heart like himself and it doesn't suit Melchior's ideal of world wihout emotions , she ran away from Melchior and from her fate to become the advisor of the shepherd,Melchior exiled her from the exorcist's Abbey and prisoned her to Titania after he captured her.And then Magilou met Velvet and the rest yeah we know it already lol. Magilou has a tragic past that's she acts like she's twisted and plays the role as "the witch". Magilou lived for centuries more after ToB ended and traveled the world as the "Mayvin the Storyteller"and reborned again until we met the old guy Mayvin in Zestiria as Sorey. Magilou actually doesn't really hate Melchior so much because she accepted her past with him, that's why she still used her forster last name "Mayvin".
Clarification:
Age of Asgard is 300 years prior to berseria
The Shepherd title is first used by Artorius but yes Claudin is his predecessor
The original title for shepherd are called Pact-Keeper given to those that is powerful enough to make a pact with an Empyrean (Heavenly Steppes Dungeon)
Shepherd Sorey has Lailah as a Prime Lord which act as proxy to the Empyrean (Maotelus)
Shepherd Artorius pact is with Innominat
Claudin Asgard has already make an Oath to make him live 300 year old (An Oath not to kill/ Im guessing after he defeated his version of the Lord Of Calamity) with melchior as his personal assistant/stalker/secretary/storyteller
Claudin Dies after he broke his oath saving Arthur like the storyteller of time Mayvin who broke his oath of secrecy during sorey era (Normin Island/zestiria game)
Im guessing Melchior was the one that is influence by Claudin ideal, twisted and wanting it fulfill no matter what. he manipulated event around Arthur leading to the Scarlet Night Tragedy
Magilou end fate is discovered in Zestiria where she is known as Mayvin The Poet. She also dies to an Oath she break.
she dies revealing the past (Velvet crowe story) to Prince Percival descendant to remind them of malovelent
however unlike Melchior she dies happy surrounded by her friends happy and not alone. (Zestiria the X episode 18)
Great write up guys! That cleared up some confusion I had as well, I did not know the last bit with Magilou damn. Is the anime worth a watch after playing both Zestria/Berseria ?

they trying to get The X (the Cross/ to cross Zestiria and Berseria) message but is currently destroying the fun (Season 1 is fun) right now. and the series is to me only eligible to those that finish berseria
FVA yeah i knew that the age of asgard is indeed 300 years prior to ToB but yeah thanks dude for the clarification. I'm just confused about who is this Claudin Asgard guy, how he met or saved Artorious at the first place and how he and Melchior made this "oath" that can make them life longer than normal human, and how Magilou made her own oath to make her own life extension arte. And yeah, i think the "X" anime kinda meh to me, the developers and Ufotable reanimated all to make a bridge between the two games and it feels kinda messy eventho they wanted us to understand the whole story but because the plot goes to fast and it has its own "anime version" storyline and kinda different from the both games, it kinda confuses me but yeah that anime was indeed created to promote the Tales of Beseria at the first place so it's acceptable. The confusion , that the anime has made, makes people wants to know all the plotholes by buying and playing the game lol.

I just love the acclaimed, the illustrious, the irresistible, the sensational, the one and only, the magnificent marvelous miss Magilou . When i see her i'm put under her spell and could be knocked over with a feather, and the only thing i can think about is getting to know her better.

Can we all agree that Melchoir is the biggest villain of Berseria, and not Artorius or Innominat?

Nope, it's actually the same thing that happened to Velvet in the Abay village where she was put under the illusion of it being actually fine.
Remember that Magilou already knew what was going on back then and Melchior himself said he would have taken Velvet as his apprentice (who was previously Magilou) if not for Velvet being a Therion because she rejected the Dreamworld Illusion he casted.

@@GiordanDiodato I hope he’s on Normin island with Grimoirh and other normin, or if it’s possible he’s with Eleanor’s and Magilou’s reincarnations. It was stated that when some humans with high Resonance die(Shepard Pawan for example) or depending on how a person dies(Celica had no resonance and yet she was reincarnated as a Malak) so it might be possible that the two reincarnated as Seraphim and he’s with them somewhere in the world.

I believe Mayvin in Zestria is related to Magilou, so she would be his ancestor.
Makes sense. The original Mayvin was said to have committed some kind of great folly and that's how the Storytellers came to be. What could be worse in the Empyrean's (Five Lords) eyes than aiding the Lord of Calamity?
I forgot about the lore from Zestiria but if that "great sin" was a thing then it probably referred more to Melchior than Magilou. That part zigzagged aside, the Berseria's Mayvin's were already older than they looked at the time. Melchior centuries, Magilou by decades (since her stories as Magilanica were heard from late 30s peopels when they were kids themselves).
Magilou is a little younger than 30, confirmed by Namco's Berseria-related material.

This scene is when your nearing the end of the main game, I believe when you get the goal to go into the last dungeon a ton of side quest open up along with this scene :D

Kyra Aikawa Well, she never refused the name Mayvin, even after all the things Melchior made to her. She started to register the events of the past right after the ending of Berseria (as seen on post-credits scene) and the title storyteller was pretty much given to her (and descendants) by other people, just as Velvet's lord of calamity one, they just assumed them and people continued using them in the future

The game quite literally said troupe,not circus. I imagine they were performers, similar to what Magilou herself tried to pull off with her "Magilou's Menagerie" schtick. I don't think the concept of a circus even exists in the Berseria/Zestiria universe, considering animals tend to turn into Daemons pretty easily.
It was mentioned in a conversation with some villager in Loegres just after she challenges Majelu. Of course, back then, since no one knew about Magillanica, it's really easy to miss
