This movie was an amazing experience to watch. I loved it from beginning to end possible nomination would be the sound and editing. Possibly costume as well...
What this film really deserves is Best Director and not a nomination, but a win. What Gibson did with this is nothing short of masterful. You take into account the budget limits and the tight schedule and you're simply amazed at the masterful crafting of this film. I agree with the sound too, because it an important part of the battle scenes.
The battle scenes in Hacksaw Ridge make Saving Private Ryan look like Mr. Roger's Neighborhood... And the heroism is off the charts insane; it'd be unbelievable if it wasn't a true story. Definitely one of the best war films ever.
Am I the only person in the world who thought saving private Ryan was a disappointment? I’m a huge war movie buff too, I’ve seen em all man and I thought it was crap
Just watched the Oscars tonight, this movie deserves much more than it got! Even though I'm Canadian I thank Desmond Doss for what he did, gave me chills at the end of the movie.
Agun Wiriadisasra Yes, this was the best movie of the year. Sadly, La La Land will win most of the awards, because it's the type of movie Hollywood likes.
it's a mystery as to why Andrew doesn't have at least 1 oscar!! this movie is crazy good, surprised mel didn't hurt a ton of stuntmen. Vince was fantastic and hugo welcome back.
Have you guys watched his past interviews recently, when he was starting out & just before the drama & compare how he acts in interviews today? before, he was very open, very boyish, his big blue eyes looking at you with a mischievous twinkle in his eye & smile, playing or having fun with the audience & the interviewer, his arms & legs are all very open relaxed slacked back and confident whereas now, he is always huddled over, arms crossed, fussing his beard, his head always down, you can hardly see his big blue eyes, his twinkle gone but not his passion. I feel bad how much he has been affected by all this, traumatized
I love Mel Gibson as an actor and a director. My favorite films are Braveheart, Passion of the Christ and Hacksaw Ridge. Andrew Garfield should have won the Oscar for best actor. I fell in love with him in this film. He is brilliant. He is a wonderful actor. Vince Vaughn was great. I loved him in this film. This is a wonderful film. Dear Mel, quit playing with your beard! It must be a nervous habit.
I'm not 1/4 a man that Doss was but even in my life God has made the impossible possible. Everytime I'm feeling really down, God finds a way to lift my spirits.
Listening to the conversation they had about this film being possibly PG-13. If there is one thing I know about Mel Gibson and War films he’s starred and directed in. That film was gonna be an R, Braveheart, We Were Soldiers. Both R ratings. Doesn’t shy away from the hell that War really is.
It's become my favorite war movie of all time, but it isn't the only film to show the 'true face of the war'. Saving private Ryan, Platoon, Full Metal jacket, Thin Red Line, Apocalypse Now a number of foreign films. Maybe not all of them are as graphic and unhinged, but they all explore the themes of war, dehumanization and/or the psychological effect of seeing these horrors up close
The first sequence of Saving Private Ryan is regarded as one of the best and most realistic portrayals of war in film. But after that, the film drops the momentum a little bit. It still is a great film, but it never reached the height of the first 30 minutes.
This film has to win at least 3/6 Oscars as the rest may be won by La La Land.. Though the scenes are very brutal, this film has a very very deep meaning..
Mel you have won the Oscar. Movies like this are to be treasured . If every soldier refuse to use weapons and tell their leaders of their countries to fight their own war that they have caused they wouldn't do it THE LEADERS TREASURE THEIR LIVES AND THEIR FAMILIES BUT EVERYONE ELSE THEY DISPOSE LIKE TRASH.
There are many things about the story of Desmond Doss that I think are important. I attended Seventh-day Adventist schools in the 1950s and early ‘60s. I grew up thinking that, while the denominational affiliation of Desmond Doss was Seventh-day Adventist, his religion - his faith - was personal - not institutional. Seventh-day Adventists, for example, require seventh-day sabbath keeping as a requisite for voting membership in the denomination but strict pacifism is not a requisite for voting membership. The pacifism of Desmond Doss was based on personal conviction, not on denominational dogma. That having been explained, many Adventist schools in the 1950s and ‘60s had courses called MCC - Medical Cadet Corps - for the purpose of teaching young men basic military courtesy and introducing them to the concept Desmond Doss pioneered - serving as medics in the military, even in combat units and even if the individual conscript has pacifist scruples similar to those of Desmond Doss. It was while I was a student at such a school in the early ‘60s that Mr. Doss was invited to the school. He was so shy, he declined to tell his story as such but agreed to be interviewed for a school assembly. He signed a small Bible for me on that occasion and I have since given it to our son. Very few Seventh-day Adventists have volunteered for United States military service but I think many have been inspired by the story of Desmond Doss to aspire to his level of courage and dedication to the saving of lives on the battlefield should events so transpire as to place us in a similar situation. It wasn’t until about a decade after I had the opportunity to hear Mr. Doss speak at our school that I read a book about him “The Unlikeliest Hero”. The movie, Hacksaw Ridge corresponds quite closely to the story in that book - from what I recall about it. Perhaps the movie - even more than the book - will inspire millions of people to be careful about jumping to negative conclusions about someone who is VERY different in his ways of thinking and his ways of doing things. Congratulations to Mel Gibson and everyone else involved in making an historically accurate and inspiring movie.
I think when Mel is nervous he's touching and grabbing his beard. lol. anyways, this movie is the BEST ONE ON THIS WHOLE PLANET ! should've easily won the Oscars. fcck the Oscars, I'm becoming Mad.
You would never think that Mel Gibson would be so nervous and insecure. But the way he pulls at his beard and his behavior shows a very insecure person
Hacksaw was hands down the best movie of 2016. Andrew should have received academy as well as mel.
This movie was an amazing experience to watch. I loved it from beginning to end possible nomination would be the sound and editing. Possibly costume as well...
HOPELESS ENTERTAINMENT And Best picture!!
yea! It was a lot better than the mediocre mess that was 2016
HOPELESS ENTERTAINMENT Sure...

this movie really has to win an oscar
This may be a better war movie than Saving Private Ryan". It is that good!
it is much better than Saving Private Ryan imo
yer have to agree this is real mens life we are talking about spr is just a tale taking out of other stories n melted together into one storie
only because its an actually story saving private Ryan was really only good because of the beginning then after that was kind of bullshit
The battle scenes in Hacksaw Ridge make Saving Private Ryan look like Mr. Roger's Neighborhood... And the heroism is off the charts insane; it'd be unbelievable if it wasn't a true story. Definitely one of the best war films ever.

HacksawRidge deserves Best Actor, Best Movie, Best Director, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing in Oscar 2017.
Agun Wiriadisasra Yes, this was the best movie of the year. Sadly, La La Land will win most of the awards, because it's the type of movie Hollywood likes.
This movie must win an Oscar
it's a mystery as to why Andrew doesn't have at least 1 oscar!! this movie is crazy good, surprised mel didn't hurt a ton of stuntmen. Vince was fantastic and hugo welcome back.
I FREAKING LOVE THIS MOVIE!
Lol Gibson was playing with his beard like the entire time.
bop he sure was
bop he is a very nervous and shy person, amazingly
Andy Summers you mean scruffy director?
Masterpiece

Great observation there. I noticed that too about Mel Gibson. I miss the old Mel for sure.
He's under constant scrutiny. The pressure to still be himself seems intense.
I hope Emma and Andrew will get the oscar for their performance
Debi Arista Emma won! :)
Emma won Oscar. Andrew won Tony Award. Another reasons why Stonefield is the real deal!
Such as awesome film. Glad the stars lined up and this film was made 👍👌
Mel Gibson’s beard deserves an Oscar

It is not a mystery how Desmond was able to maintain his integrity, it was God and His Spirit.
I'm not 1/4 a man that Doss was but even in my life God has made the impossible possible. Everytime I'm feeling really down, God finds a way to lift my spirits.

Both R ratings.
Doesn’t shy away from the hell that War really is.
Man,Mel Gibson movie Hacksaw Ridge is an masterpiece, it's the only war movie that really showed the true face of the war.
its amazing its right up there with we were soldiers once and young.
It's become my favorite war movie of all time, but it isn't the only film to show the 'true face of the war'. really? and have you been in war to say that:?
This film has to win at least 3/6 Oscars as the rest may be won by La La Land.. Though the scenes are very brutal, this film has a very very deep meaning..
Was just wondering ... was this filmed late at night? Everyone on stage seems really tired.
Mel you have won the Oscar. Movies like this are to be treasured . The beard is for his new film, he took a break during filming to do HR promo

Funny Mel Gibson said that at the beginning. I felt like the whole movie was a Norman Rockwell painting.
Mel's beard is epic.
its jaw fucking dropping. They had to nerf desmond doss in the film.
good
Nigga plays with his beard too much - check out 8:13 - 8:20 WTF IS HE DOING??? LOL
JohnoEAL it seems like nervous behavior to me. Has has sort of been out of the public/limelight for like 10 years.
Mel is so twitchy, and always playing with that damned beard.
#IfHacksawRigeLoseWeRiot
You would never think that Mel Gibson would be so nervous and insecure. But the way he pulls at his beard and his behavior shows a very insecure person
Golden Globes are shit.
I thought I heard this movie was shit
HIGILO No dude, I enjoyed it as much as Saving Private Ryan. Really compelling characters, a lot of emotion in it.
HIGILO No, not at all. This movie was spectacular, probably the best of the year.
bro this movie is gonna win everything this year, its not shit.
