Or do it oldschool by storing the settings in an ini file in the program folder.

We can’t do that, because writing to the program folder requires administrative privileges on any modern OS, and in many cases (schools, maker spaces, tech shops, businesses) we can’t assume that.

I've been putting off taking all my laser settings from my workshop PC and putting on my house PC (A lot warmer in the winter) for ages.
