  • Hi Friends! Thought I’d talk about luxury Ready To Wear, aka “Luxury off the peg clothing”. If you’re into luxury, should you put your money to handbags, or clothing?
In this I share with you my entire luxury collection of Ready to Wear from CHANEL, DIOR & BALMAIN. I thought I’d share with you information on what you get (in terms of signature coat hanger/dust bag/service/alterations) - plus the customer events that take place and how to get invited to them.
So my conclusion is that from a resale perspective, handbags are what to buy. However, Ready To Wear…. if you see something and LOVE it and have no plans to sell, is worth it. I wanted to share also that you can get great savings on designer Ready To Wear on pre-loved consignment websites. I have a Dior skirt that I bought for £200 on Vestiaire Collective - and “new” it’d be around £1,800 *Ad

Hey friends! I hope you enjoy watching this! Let me know your thoughts on the topic? My verdict to the question “Is luxury ready to wear worth it” has a YES & NO answer! I think that “Yes” it’s worth it if you love it! Plus too, the clothes imo wear very well vs High Street. Bit the “No” part is because they drop LIKE A STONE when you try to sell! So… I would suggest to any of you that if you want anything, check out pre-loved sites first!xx

Hi Sophie! Love your videos, it’s always a treat to watch.. everything looks so elegant and beautiful on you.. I think the RTW clothes are worth it only if you find a piece that you absolutely love and can integrate well with your other pieces.. I’m considering the Dior tshirt and I’m wondering if it’s worth the money ?

Hey Sophie! I'm agree with you for hoodies, knitting etc. But I do not understand it for jackets, dresses, tailoring etc. Often the bespoken, tailor made clothes are even better quality, fits you perfectly ( you can really chose the design and when you are looking the prices of pret a porter luxury pieces they are often even cheaper. I'm actually a tailor and pattern maker and it is not true that a garment can be altered to fit you perfectly on some spots (like breast high, shoulders how are too narrow, waist high...). Most people don't really know how a perfect fitted jacket should look like, so they don't see this kind of things. I mean every person can do what they want and if they fit the sizing why not but I try out a good tailor :) I am sorry if it was not so readable. I'm French/German and my English is not so good.

Sophie Shohet | Fashion Beauty Lifestyle that tartan jacket will never go out of style. That’s what I like classic pieces not too trendy I keep my things. I save buy good quality good price and use it. I am at the other end of the pay scale cause I’m sick but I still like to look good.

When I buy RTW I don't buy in hopes of ever reselling and I only buy a item if I really like it and know I will wear it for many years to come. But I mostly buy designer clothing such as MK Ralph Lauren etc and always always have my own personal tailor work on the items to fit my body perfect. I don't think items that have been altered will have any value to anyone but the one it's been tailored to fit. Jmo.
    Have a wonderful day 😘

that's what I do too! I don't need to take the items so often, unless it's pants and I am pretty short so pants do get altered by a tailor. But I do buy something in mind I will be wearing them myself and also if they go well with what I already have. I never regret spending extra cash for quality. I have pieces that last me decade and more and I can still wear them today.

Before I went to Uni (I’m an accountant), my mum insisted I study fashion & tailoring for 18 months (I started making my own clothes aged 10). It’s the best thing I could have ever done. Now I can buy good quality fabrics & make exactly what I want myself. I do however have multiple Burberry trench coats & shirts, because they are timeless classics & I never had any intention of selling them. I prefer to stick to designer bags shoes & accessories myself. I personally don’t like to be dressed in head to toe designer, even when it’s understated, & I gave a growing appreciation for individual pieces hand made by people who live in my country.

Sophie you seem to collect and have a great eye for season-less pieces. I was always able to in my head anyway justify spending on Handbags but I just can’t seem to buy clothes ... I actually returned a Chanel Tweed Jumper once that my husband got for me. Now I have reached the age where both bags and RTW are no longer dreams of mine to own. Thank you for sharing ... I think you have impeccable style and you have the opportunity to wear these pieces. Be well❤️

stupid question: the luxury sales happen at department stores or the actual stores at Dior, Chanel, etc.? Do these sales happen in the US? I always feel silly going into an actual store and asking for a sale . . .

  • @SeanKBeauty
    @SeanKBeauty 4 роки тому +16

This is really great insight Sophie… And I agree when you think about ready to wear is it really going to hold its value at the end. Again given the current financial climate and the unemployment increase ...I don’t think luxury items of ready to wear it’s going to be at the forefront of many right now. And trust me after a while all these things go on sale ....let’s also think about this for a second. Will you buy a Gucci T-shirt at a premium if the Gucci logo was not on the shirt? I think a lot of consumers are becoming very knowledgeable now and scrutinizing a lot.... they really are looking at the mindset behind these collections price tags....I don’t disagree that the quality is not top-notch but we can find quality in a lot of other things that are for a cheaper price and not attached to the heavy hitter designers.
There are so many on UA-cam talking about pre-loved and going that way now ...I just think that’s the mindset of a lot of consumers.

    • @sams3015
      @sams3015 4 роки тому

I am really curious to see how the designers respond, will the push more classic, discreet looking pieces like she showed us here or will they be pushing logo’s tee’s and stuff which are cheap to make, appealing to the masses and social media friendly. I hope we see a move towards craftsmanship focused items instead of money grabs, so at least we be keeping skills alive. I think classic items also might start collecting value like handbags do because of a move to focus on heritage and have something you might even pass down. Wealthier (but not super rich) people probably still want to buy Chanel and Dior but maybe be more conscious of getting value out of it. Another thing is this group might invest their special occasion money in material items rather than travel or huge outings or parties with the money they do have left over these will be so restrictive & stressful.

Last summer, I found a (nearly) vintage (galliano era) bar jacket from a second hand store in Paris. Absolutely beautiful... Lambskin beige.. Padded shoulders for just a couple hundreds.. I thought my goodness is this lady aware of this piece's value/quality/aesthetic 😅. I got it without thinking twice. But felt like i was robbing her so I purchased an unbranded lovely jacket and a pair of art déco crystal earrings 🙂 🙏

Hey Sophie, love the Channel clothes especially the sweater. Being able to go to pre sales and parties is awesome. I used to never find anything that fit me until I found RTW. Being able to find clothing that fits and the majority of the time without any alterations has been a lifesaver. Yes I spend more money up front but it’s worth it because I only by classic styles and the quality lasts for years. The level of service you get from most stores is amazing. It makes you feel wonderful. Greeted with a smile when you walk in the door and usually free refreshments, wine, beer and champagne. I sometimes get invited to private fashion shows. Having a SA that knows what you like is so cool. My best SA’s will put things back on hold that they think I might like or would look good on me and then call me to come in and check them out. Another perk was where I had one store that I would shop at and they didn’t have in store alterations. There was one time that I bought some dress pants at the end of the year on sale. With them being on sale they didn’t come with free alterations. My SA hooked me up with the tailor that did all their alterations for the store. I have to say my butt has never looked better lol.

I’m a luxury minimalist. Don’t laugh! Haha but as such I actually buy high end items (higher quality/lower quantities) because I know they last longer. I would absolutely agree with you that buying these items is smart but all I would say is don’t go too trendy. If you live in a cold climate, invest in high end cashmere or wool sweaters. If you live in a warm climate, invest in linen pieces. Always go for timeless pieces like black dresses, classic silhouettes. I say high end items are fine and as you said they will definitely last the longest!

Sophie every time you mention taking pictures or videos to judge your outfit I think of Cher in Clueless who took Polaroids for the same purpose. Also, I like the idea of spending money (if you have it) on designer clothes than handbags. Handbags are too trendy and if you really want to be trendy, just buy a couple Chanel handbags, a Louis Vuitton, a Birkin and be done with it. Well made clothes can last a lifetime and if you choose classic items, they will never go out of style. I enjoy looking at the Harper's Bazaar street style blogs and what Vogue editors wear and it's always this interesting classic style mixed with vintage (sometimes inexpensive) pieces.

I am quite partial to handbags over RTW. I had 2 children, and the reality is that your body shape will likely change as part of the process even after you lose the baby weight. VERY few of my designer clothes fit me afterwards, but every one of my handbags and SLGs still fit. If you are either done having children or don’t plan to have any, designer RTW may be worth it to you. However, if you haven’t closed the door on having children, it is worth thinking twice about RTW. JMO.

I think you’re right...rtw is it’s like wearable art - more Dior than Chanel I think...but also I can imagine if I had a family I’d pass these beautifully made items down to my children and grandchildren. I don’t have family or kids though and I think it’s also a beautiful thing just to enjoy if you can afford to - life is meant to enjoy what we love. I really want a Balmain jacket. But with clothes in pretty boring. I only buy black clothing. I love Meshki. You can mix and match all the tops and bottoms in the same colour. They're like 2 piece sets but you buy them separately and there's so many options.
I would be interested in ready to wear if I was rich. But I can't even afford a luxury bag yet, so that's more important than designer clothing for me.

I really enjoyed this video. I love your tips on getting pieces for less. If you are knowledgeable about a brand and how they fit you can keep an eye out for pre-loved.

Each video is makin' me more excited to FINALLY hit those Designer shops with my bf who is also a big spender and 🛍"SHOP TIL WE DROP!"🛍
Btw both of us are VERY careful with our money, we don't spend stupidly. Due to my OCD I actually HATE spending but I also LOVE to shop designer. 😅🛍👜

I really want to buy some clothes but my weight is too big at the moment, I know you an I spoke last year about the personal shopper service at Harrods too (now back to London so will try that after sorting my weight) Thank you for doing this as really helpful and buy the way I am in love with the navy trousers 😍

That’s strange, here in Switzerland I got a thick black Chanel dust bag every time I got ready to wear.

Also, do you have a suggestion as a pump to replace the beige patent with the red bottom? I have a narrow foot,. Maybe the Manolo? I am thinking regular leather as opposed to patent. Thank you for your help. I will let you know how it. Just for clarification, the Bar Jack was the rose colored dior you got on Ebay. looks fabuous on you.

I love your collection. Do you still have the Dior tartan skirt that you bought awhile ago. I was wondering if you were going to show it in this video.

Due to weight issues in the last few years, I’m currently only investing in bags and some shoes. Once I get back to my old weight, I’d love to buy some classic RTW like a classic Chanel jacket and some other classic pieces from other brands. In the mean time can someone tell Chanel not to increase their prices please...thanks😂😂😂

I don’t see the point of buying RTW unless it’s limited edition or you absolutely love it. I also make exceptions when it’s like a jacket or coat. Other than that, buy that stuff on sale or clearance. I rather invest in bags or other accessories.

Hi Sophie. You do love your jackets, my sister is the same, she has more jackets than any other clothes. And another sister must have 40 pairs of boots, and they all look the same to me... A great video, if I had your amazing figure I would buy designer, but I would look ridiculous in designer clothes in my size, mutton dressed as lamb comes to mind. So M&S, and some Sainsburys will have to do. But you look fabulous in everything, did you buy that white and that black dress, they were made for you, you looked amazing in them both xxx

I would Looooooove to have the ready to wear in my collection, but high end designers only make things for 3 sizes smaller than me, so I can’t. 😱

Hi Sophie, great video. So informative. I watched something on BBC iPlayer today & thought of you & Lorna Luxe, there was in the week a programme of going behind the scenes in Monaco, about Prince Albert , formula one, lifestyles are not normally allowed to be filmed there, last year they had the first of its kind a Influencers awards, they had Julian McDonald, a Princess from Italy, as judges. One of the influencers that got a invite had on his Instagram account I think around half a billion people, private invite of around 700 top influencers. I think there is a series as they said to tune in next week, so am going to watch out.
Anyway please hope you staying safe with David & your bunnies 💕☺️

Love all these classic pieces you get!! My only concern with buying second hand would be it not fitting, then having to sell on an item that's too small and cant be tailored up.
Also that impression of the cashier is hilarious haha
