i love watching these older shows when people were still well mannered, polite, well dressed, well spoken, no gratuitous violence, swearing, nudity and sex, when the actual acting and plot was important not the way the people looked, what cars they drove, where they lived etc. The shows nowdays are just so shallow compared to earlier
'If ever you find true goodness you'll know the difference' 'All of us have something that we're ashamed and sorry about, You've learnt something about yourself and now you have to live with that knowledge and it's shaken your confidence' 'In order to understand and forgive other people we can only do that when we have learnt to do that to ourselves' - I kind of like Mary Taylor
It's a great quote. As we get older, we understand things better as we look back on our lives. The last part reminds me of "treat others as you'd like to be treated".....
These are great. Thanks so much! I remember watching these way back in the 80's and loving them. So satisfying that they are even better than I remember!
And as guest, would not consume tea or anything else served by anyone there either. In real life, now very cautious when it comes to taking prescription medication, which is said to be the third leading cause of death, after only cancer and heart disease. If remember correctly, half of such deaths occur by using the medication as it was prescribed. Read the inserts... 😮
During the moment when Dalgliesh and the Matron are discussing him not being able to advise her if one of her staff turned out to be the murderer, it looked like they were about to have a great big snog. If this was redone today, they probably would have filmed it like that.
Besides the informative comment regarding different school caps, did anyone find these comments about the nurses hats an addition to the story? The only way they could have been more meaningful was if they had added the ubiquitous emojis.
Among her other comments, found Sister Ralph expressing her bitter resentment towards men especially comical: "Most men are professionally vain, I find. I've never yet met a surgeon who wasn't convinced he ranked only one degree lower than Almighty God." Often true about MD's - females included, though - to have some type of a god complex.

Most movies or shows lack realistic medical portrayals. I could never watch House, the series featuring the fake doctor, who was really just a pompous ass and unaided addict, because there was nothing remotely realistic. Most of the show is just made up nonsense. A “funny” aspect of these murder mysteries is how fast the poisoned people croak! I love Poirot but cyanide or nicotine poison does not kill nearly instantly. A favorite method portrayed is the nicotine laced cigarettes killing the victim in a few puffs!! Impossible in reality but I doubt we would have many entertaining shows if strict adherence to reality was maintained??
Dalgliesh is investigating murders, not misdemeanors. Almost all the people he talks to are lying to him, obstructing, tightening their ranks, or are just cold blooded murderers! I guess we should always be kind, compassionate, and empathetic in every circumstance but I find him amazingly professional yet probing in dealing with these ordinary people. More elite people are even worse due to hubris. He is charged with separating a lot of nastiness and humanity to find justice and stop more murders.
The wrinkled, rather ordinary loking and no longer young Sister having an affair with the quite good looking married pharmacist? What does he see her? It would be more believable if she were more attractive physically.
myo min: Sexist and ageist much? They were equally matched in terms of attractiveness (I found both fairly attractive -- middle-aged and a little pudgy is not a deterrent to many of us). .... I notice you haven't commented on the total ludicrousness of this production telling us that young, free-spirited, and gorgeous Jo slept with the grey/balding, pudgy, boring, OLD surgeon -- that would NOT have happened in real life. (An opportunistic man or woman might sleep with a much older and unattractive person for job advancement, but that's not who Jo was.)
J J how dare you. Joss Ackland is, was and forever shall be gorgeous. He could have any woman he wanted and still can at 90. His voice is like rich, weave spun sateen dipped in smoked honey and he could possibly be the most exciting man in history. Add that to the fact he's a surgeon with diplomatic immunity then he's what can only be referred to as a 'pussy magnet.'
Hilarity: There's no such thing as a ''pussy magnet'' (you're quite the charmer) any more than there's a ''cock magnet'' -- as in, no human being will appeal to everyone or even the majority of the population. Joss Ackland can't have ''any woman'' he wants (I wouldn't sleep with him, nor would any woman I know), nor can *any* man have ''any woman'' he wants. But TV continues to present this ludicrous fantasy that no matter how old, fat, or otherwise unattractive a man is, loads of young, slim, beautiful women are longing to bed him. Bad enough that this nonsense was peddled for so long, worse that it still is. Look at the dozens of contemporary sitcoms in which some fat and/or nondescript guy has a thin, sexy, well-dressed wife. It's untrue in real life, and it's a misogynistic trope that does everyone a disservice. BTW, sociologists have proven that the vast majority of couples are well-matched in terms of physical attractiveness -- sixes with other sixes, tens with other tens -- and any fool can see it on every high street or main street in the world.

Indeed😼
Still murder :)
How lovely. I love Adam Dalghliesh

Very true indeed.
Haven't seen these in a few years. I'm enjoying watching them again. It's been just long enough for me to forget "whodunnit" lol. Thanks for sharing.
These are great. Thanks so much! I remember watching these way back in the 80's and loving them. So satisfying that they are even better than I remember!
I wouldn't trust any of these nurses to give me an aspirin. It's like a Stephen King hospital.
😂😂😂😂
Without them there's no story, 2 of them were VICTIMS.
And as guest, would not consume tea or anything else served by anyone there either.

Matron is great!!
Love the theme.
Wonderful novel. I recommend reading it. A hangover is a possibility, though. ☺️
This brings back fond memories thank you for the upload
Enjoyed the movie. Thanks.
❤👍
The beauty of socialized tv:)
Not anymore haha...

Oh no! If you watch episode 5 chewing up the scenery with Thelma Whitely you will know that her interests lie quite elsewhere.
I just love the French style painting above Jo's bed.
Buster Merryfield aka Uncle Albert in Only Fools and Horses playing the police surgeon !!
TheMinkster1974oo no he’s the gate keeper
Sadie louise Williams no, he’s the doctor, honest😀
Thank you!
thank you!
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Dalgleish bends to the will of Matron!
Those pillbox hats that the senior tutors wear look like cream pies.
Raija Helena/Finland I thought the exact same thing. They do nothing to instil confidence in the Sisters.
at one time, nurses wore the caps from whatever school they received their training
Besides the informative comment regarding different school caps, did anyone find these comments about the nurses hats an addition to the story? The only way they could have been more meaningful was if they had added the ubiquitous emojis.
Lmao. 😂
Meringues
3:42 only fools & horses grandad 👴🏾 😀
10:12 Only Fools & Horses Uncle Albert (Buster Merryfield).
That's Uncle Albert not Grandad.

Those rhinestone belt buckles the nurse wear, what's that about?

Yes, with those tight belts; imagine how uncomfortable...
This program could have used a medical consultant. The medical procedures used are laughable. As a matter of fact I did laugh several times.
Which ones were incorrect? What would the correct procedures be?

Hugh Lawrie great & these are NOT documentaries.
Dalgleish was not investigating anything to do with the nurses??
That writer boyfriend is a snowflake😂
betty boop Someone with the name of Betty Boop dares call another ' snowflake'?
He’s a twerpy little commit-a-phobe poseur.
Really? So perceptive or just flippant stupidity? How could one tell? Ask your mom?
Yes, she was knocked up by a ❄.

Probably while not sober.
Dagleish was really a prick in this episode and so condescending towards the women in this story.
Hmmm, they were pretty pointed and condensending too...lol.
Faced with the arrogance and obstruction presented by the nursing staff I am deeply impressed by his patience and calm persistence.

Yes, murder investigation requires 😊.
6:59 Genesis 3:16 It is Eve's fault. Do not blame man for your troubles.
Concerning what? All have sinned and fall far short of what God requires. The World’s problem is caused by people, ALL of us!
@@alcoholfree6381 True. But Eve was the originator.
@@dennisday2049 Yeah Eve was deceived...oh, but Adam just followed along and blamed God later (Gen 3:12,13)...never mind, that's worse.
@@sunnybearbuds You are correct, Adam was the sinner. And now we all know how to play 'the blame game'.
