Absolutely the best teaching on saddles fit, construction & wisdom in choosing a saddle I ever had. Now, Im 84 and one might think I don't need this knowledge or should have it by this time in life, but you'ed be wrong. I done the best I can do to do right in my life, so I can die with the hope of going to heaven, but what would be the point of that if there weren't, no horses there? It's never too late to learn, and this man does a great and thorough job of teaching PS, or dogs.
I've watched 1000's of saddle videos here. Just seeing yours this evening. Wished I had before. Simple common sense information. I like the way you explain things. I subbed. Thank you very much for taking the time to do these to help all us horsey people. 🤠
Larry, this is a great video. Thanks for uploading this one. You are right on about so many saddles that aren’t built right. And you are right about too many riders today, particularly in English riding shows who ride with hollowed out back, especially lady riders. Too many riders also ride with stirrups way too long. I think they have this notion that longer stirrups means they are experienced riders.
I was 4? Yrs late in finding your great video-but I’m so glad I found it! GREAT information-thank you so much! I’m a happy new subscriber. Do you think now-if ALL your subscribers and all their horsey friends were to contact the well known saddle companies, we could encourage them to make fantastic and well balanced saddles? I’ll cross my fingers that you think enough people could change their minds.
I know which company you are talking about. I tried 2 of their saddles recently and it was so uncomfortable. I used to have a Balanced Ride by Fallis. Best saddle in the world for trail and arena work (not Western pleasure). I worked cows on it.
Hello Mr. Trocha, I watched I really enjoyed all 3 parts of your saddle fitting video's (2017 version), Thank you for taking the time to make these video's over again. It seems that these are a modern version of the video you made in 2009. My horse was reluctant and jigging down hills, and I had two large palm sized dry spots either side of withers, and sometimes over the back in the same place but at the back of the pad. After watching your video series, I feel like I can take it out tomorrow, and re assess the fit before I sell it. I love the saddle for pocket, fit, etc, but I am just concerned for my high withered QH. I am a person that perpetually asks Why? and you answered every question I have ever had, over the 3 videos regarding the tree, fit, how the saddles are different between the special purpose on cow horse type saddles, and even the better way to fit a pad, the girth, you covered it all.
Thank you Larry. Your three saddle videos were incredibly helpful. You are very knowledgeablewith easy to understand information. I've been on a quest to fit my mule this has been extremely helpful.
I Larry:) I could really use your advice. I have always had my saddles custom made for the horses I was riding. Although I am a rider of over 40 years now, I am having to "fit" a new horse for a saddle I cannot afford to have custom made. I do not want her to have an ill fitting saddle although my daughter requires at least a 15 inch seat. Now, I have four saddles that do not fit correctly. I do not have a way or an outlet of a saddle shop that will allow me to borrow and try on first so I am looking for ANY advice I can get. Each of the saddles I have either do not have a large enough seat for a comfy sit or just plane rock to easily from front to back on the tree itself. My horse is built like a gaited horse or like the back of a mustang although she is 100% Arabian/. She is large at over 15 1/2 hands for her breed and has a broad back. I am at a loss here. I am trying to teach my daughter to ride but We lost the entire spring and summer months this year because I am not willing to risk atrophe or pain in my horse. I havn't done a wither trace or anything. Is there any way I could measure her and take that with me when purchasing a saddle? Im broke here!
If the saddle rocks front to back, there is too much curve to the bars. You need bars that are straighter. If your horse has a broad back, you're going to need a wider gullet. To tell you the truth, few saddle shops are going to let you just try one to see if it fits. You should try McCall saddlery. They may be able to help you.
@@ltrocha Hello. Thank you for your quick response. I would love get a good western for her. I love my western but for some reason, this arab fits the endurance style regardless.

Have you ever tried a "Balanced Ride" saddle? Everyone ought to see the film "Riding By Reasoning". There are many quality made popular brand saddles with lousy rideability characteristics.
Hi Dave, for the same price, you could get a Five Star saddle that's better quality, fits and rides better and only weighs 28 pounds. I'll have photos of the new line of saddles on my website in a week or so. GoodSaddles.com

Hello. I am in the market for a saddle. I am also a brand new rider. I have a wild, unbroken mustang. She threw me off the first time I rode her. Took me ten (10) days to recover. Since then, we have begun to bond which I should have done initiallly. After reviewing the first few minutes of your video, I realized that part of my problem (other than my inexperience) was that I was using the trainers' saddle, which may not have been ideal for her. Thank you for educating me in this aspect. I will continue with your series. Al
Al Smith /. Not only the correct saddle, but lots and lots of ground work, but I'm sure you already know that... Just trying to help. Don't want you out 10 days or more again.
H Al , I'm curios. As a brand new rider, why are you risking your life with a wild horse? That's a recipe for the hospital emergency room. Go to my website and get the "Balanced Basics Groundwork" online training course.
what about fitting the horse in motion? different trees? different horses fit better by different saddle makers?horses are all different and saddle makers are not consistent
You are absolutely right, Rambo. There is a big difference between a horse standing still and a horse in motion. Makes fitting the tree more difficult.
@@ltrocha I just thought it was kinda funny . You would often ask the cameraman to get a closer look at some detail on the saddle, so they would zoom in. But by the time thye zoomed in all the way, you would start talking again, so they would quickly try to zoom out in order to get your face in the shot. It is just a small detail, that made me chuckle. Overall I found the video very helpful.

Can you please give me an email to get in touch with someone for one of these saddles please.
My email is in the description box below the video
Have you ever tried a "Balanced Ride" saddle? Everyone ought to see the film "Riding By Reasoning". There are many quality made popular brand saddles with lousy rideability characteristics.
15 mins into the video and all I learned is that most saddle makers don't know what they are doing.
You are correct. But if you watch the videos, you'll learn a lot more.
Has anyone got a bad Martin Saddlery saddle?
Hi Dave, for the same price, you could get a Five Star saddle that's better quality, fits and rides better and only weighs 28 pounds. I'll have photos of the new line of saddles on my website in a week or so. GoodSaddles.com
@@ltrocha ok thanks
What is the average cost of a five star saddle?
I'm not halfway through yet, and just bought a saddle. Yikes, I hope I didn't mess up🥴
I hope so too.
Be sure to watch all 3 saddle videos... Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3. If you like them, please click the "Like" button and feel free to share them with your friends.
Thanks so much. Larry very nice videos I learned a lot . thanks again...
Great video but as a new rider I still don’t know what brand to buy.
@@13thDiscipleU Glad you liked the videos. Go to GoodSaddles.com
What if I have no friends?
Always the best information so well communicated. You are a gifted teacher!

Would you recommend Clinton Anderson’s Aussie Saddles??
At this point in time, I only recommend the saddles made by Five Star Saddlery..
Al
Hi Al, I think you will really like the rest of the video series too. Lot's of little-known information.
Al Smith why would you buy any horse especially an umbroken mustang if you are a brand new rider
@@summerpuppy6523 cause the government will give you 1000 to adopt one
what about fitting the horse in motion? different trees? different horses fit better by different saddle makers?horses are all different and saddle makers are not consistent
Welcome to reality...
You are absolutely right, Rambo. There is a big difference between a horse standing still and a horse in motion. Makes fitting the tree more difficult.
Uhm what if I don’t have a horse?
Then you buy red dead redemption 2
I've seen them tell kids to ride like that a lot

👍👍👏
Thanks Jay
I feel bad for the poor camera man. zoom in, zoom out, over and over again. Nice video though.
??????
@@ltrocha I just thought it was kinda funny . You would often ask the cameraman to get a closer look at some detail on the saddle, so they would zoom in. But by the time thye zoomed in all the way, you would start talking again, so they would quickly try to zoom out in order to get your face in the shot.
It is just a small detail, that made me chuckle. Overall I found the video very helpful.
