- This is my favorite way to cook beer brats. Whether you are having friends and family over to watch the game, tailgating at the stadium, or just in the mood for some good ol' fashioned comfort food that is easy to grill, this is a sure fire way to make perfect bratwurst on the grill. Here's the way I like to do it:
BRATS
1 stick butter
1 head of roasted garlic cloves
2 onions sliced 1/4" - 1/2" thick
1 24oz beer (lager)
6 -12 brats
Set up a grill for 2 zone cooking (indirect). Put butter in aluminum pan and warm. Dump in garlic. Once the butter is meted, add the onions. Add salt and black pepper.
Once the onions are soft and translucent, but not caramelized, add the beer.
Bring to a boil over direct heat then move to cold side of grill.
Add brats and cook 15-20 minutes covered in foil
Remove brats and move beer bath back to direct side of grill. Grill brats for 2-3 minutes/side until charred and whistling.
Add brats back in bath and serve. Further cook down onions if needed.
Keep covered and serve on a sausage roll with sauerkraut, and stone ground mustard. Add red pickled onions for extra flavor.
Enjoy!!! - Навчання та стиль
Gonna do a batch of these for memorial Day on a Aussie walk about grill. Thanks this looks great.
Folks the key is the post bath
A brat post bathed in good beer is a beer brat. Don’t let anyone tell you different.
My dad in the sixties used an old coffee van on the red Weber charcoal grill filled with Schlitz and when the brats were cooked in they went.
This recipe is all wrong to anyone from Wisconsin. When I saw him drop the raw sausages into the beer and onion bath, I yelled NO……….! He might as well cook everything on the stove and saves some steps. The whole point of the grill is to add smoke and flavor which instead is hardly used. To each is own I guess.
Awesome, I'd totally love this! Looks superb, thanks for showing this!
“Now we’re gonna let this come up to a boil” that’s the only spot you messed up. Don’t let either butter or beer boil. Simmer at most.
@DadBodBBQ: Your video came today suddenly after I was watching another dude's Bratwurst vid &that went off. I decided to try Your Recipe because I realized I had the onions, garlic, & of Course BEER!!! Thanks Bro' that $#it came out Fyyyyyyre!!!
Plump after bath lol y’all funny 😆
Yeah, we're dumb.
I love bratwurst. I'll be saving this one. I usually use sauerkraut or spicy brown mustard.
Bratwurst is awesome! Definitely try this method out!

That is pro tailgate food. I like the stone ground plus some honey mustard PLUS the yellow mustard. Gotta have all three. lol I think i used to make sauerkraut with apples and onions cooked together. I gotta look into that.
Thanks for checking out the video. I’m going to try the triple mustard threat next time I brat up! The Apple/onion kraut sounds like it could be a winner. Thanks for the tip!
These look awesome man, great recipe - I am totally using this next time I grill. I ate bratwurst for the first time today, cooked in beer but didn’t do the whole onion and roasted garlic trick.
Thanks Tom! I promise you’ll love them cooked this way. It’s my favorite way to cook brats.
This was a good video.
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed it
Saved.
Thanks for watching!
Nice video
Thanks!
Looks amazing! I'm definitely trying this. Only thing you're missing is Twisted Cajun Creole Seasoning! It will definitely enhance your already delicious looking recipe.
I’ll have to get some to try it out!

You made me proud when you didn't have hotdog buns...love it
They were a bit soft, but they did the job. Scrumptious!
Nice video! Just how I learned in the upper Midwest. Except for the addition of roasted garlic, which is a nice touch, IMO.
Are you in Wisconsin, or possibly Minnesota?
I lived in North Dakota for about 5 years. State fair!!
Do you eat rhe onions that you cooked in the bath 🛀
so beer smells like car racing? lol
Come on with the cooking video. Sorry we’re not here for funny stuff 😂
Very nice! Glad you used UNCOOKED brats, and not the pre cooked Johnsonville Brats like all these idiots are doing! I’d just use a better beer! Blue ribbon is trash.
Uncooked is the only way to go. I actually like the cheap beer taste on these. Not sure why.
fuck yeah
