@@RobotClinic if you have koala, you can set a sidechain with the mk2. A lot of the stuff the mk2 is missing koala has and Vice versa…with the latest update it they work together really well via usbc
Another little fix Roland could implement: When resampling the tempo is always set to 90 since the latest 4.0.4 / 4.0.5 update. It would be awesome if the resampling tempo would adopt to the designated project tempo. I am resampling a bunch of flutes with sync delay right now. If I don't always reset the tempo to my tempo while resampling, the delay will be synced to 90, instead to 82 bpm in my case. I hope Roland reads this ^^
This is definitely a bug, and the main reason I'm still on 3.02. In 3.02, when you set the rec or resample bpm it stays at that bpm for all resamples until you restart the unit, unless you manually change it. Also project bpm overrides bank bpm on 3.02, which is preferable for me.
I’ve only had my SP for a few days, but coming from other gear I’d like effects sends with values, not just on/off selection. Just a bit of reverb on a snare but lots on a pad, via the same affect. But I guess that’s what resampling is for!
I can only hope that Roland watch this video and listen. Like you, I'd like some ways to downsample - specifically a 202 mode. Knob 1 to cycle between the 4 different 202 sample grades, Knob 2 to act as 202 filter, and Knob 3 to act as the 202 ring mod. It would be so amazing!
Yeah! I would love to see Downsampling options as well. It could be a new FX in MFX which allows you to choose bit-rate and kHz. Also totally agree on side-chaining. Downsampling and side-chaining are the only reason I need to use Ableton and I wish would be able to have within the 404.
Great ideas! In terms of fx I‘d be happy to just be able to have a filter per pad and sends for reverb and delay. I think that would solve a lot of the awkwardness of the machine. Plus a lofi toggle like on the old 404s would and that would really speed up the workflow so much… In terms of chops I would love to see the sp do what Koala does and give us at least some space around the chops so we can readjust start and end.
great video!!! im hoping in the future they add functionality for mute groups per bank, or maybe per group of of banks (like A/F). because right now, only 10 mute groups for an ENTIRE project is very VERY limiting unless the entire project is like, 2 or maybe 3 beats, & thats being generous, but that could just be my workflow
Would really like to have ability to record longer than 4 bars in the looper. 16 bars ideally. Agreed with everyone else we need sidechaining in compressor
I'd like to see an option to have a wav of 16 hi hats and set the 16 chops to a single pad to play randomly or some set order, to kind of a dirty multisample to give more feel when finger drumming
Very good video informative and full of good ideas 💡 for future updates but firstly we need some bugs to fix because on my sp when I load samples for chopping it’s just randomly crash and switch off.
Yeah I made a video about that a while ago, it would be so much better if we could just access 3/4 without having to dive into that seperate menu. I really don't like that side of the workflow
Great video! About adding different effects, I think that's a CPU power thing, IDK, it seems cool in theory but then it will probably cause the cpu not being able to do everything. One thing I absolutely love about the SP404 MK2 is that I don't have to worry about that, it just handles everything I throw at it. My big gripe with my MC707 is that it's quite underpowered for all it can do in paper, in terms of CPU, causing voice stealing almost all the time, so I constantly need to record separate tracks on my computer or resample stuff to tracks (which is FAR better on the SP404) and making me yell at the machine very often. Pad chaining: absolutely, that would be very cool! 16 chops, I'm totally ok with 16. Sample rates: yeah, ok, could add a nice texture Show MFX on screen: VERY useful, and I think it would be easy to implement Sidechain: PLEASE ROLAND PLEEEEAAASSEEEEEEEE
parameter locks, parameter lock, parameter locks. if roland loves us. not saying like octatrack but like octatrack lol. every company should study that machine
The xt-12 also has that feature. I’ll be honest I’ve never really used it being a big SP head but I’m certainly interested in checking it out now that I have it
@@spvidz Parameter locks would at least let you get more out of the MFX by giving you the ability to set the effects on a per step basis and also be less held back by the polyphony limit because you can change out the sample on a pad on a per step basis as well.
Needs a popup window to come up every time you resample asking whether or not to bypass bus 3+4. I keep accidentally leaving bus3+4 on then doubling up on the effects after 😅
Downsampling and sidechain!!! The rest have workarounds I personally can live with. But especially sidechain compression... I know there is this new Koala sampler way to do it. But then you're really making beats on your phone. When I smoke weed and make beats, I want to stay away of my phone.
A few things I'd like to see: Key detection for samples - useful for those of us without music theory backgroung and for layering Sampling in at different rates could be good or perhaps effects like 202 emulator, sp1200 emulator and mpc 60 emulator, similar to the decimort plugin. I'd also like to see a better swing function so that you can shift quantised beats. I know you can do this in tr-rec mode but I'd like to see it in the pattern sequencer. Also sidechain 😂
I'm gonna be in the minority here, but if they added more scales, I'd never connect a controller again. At least give me harmonic minor, phrygian dominant, locrian and a couple the japanese pentatonics. The mc101/707 have very comprehensive scales built in, it would be such an easy implementation
You are not limited to 16 chops when you put your whole sample on pad one. Copy it as much as needed (lets say 18 times). Put all of them into a mute group and adjust the startpoints. Nur truncate each of them if you want. It is similar to an old sampler workflow.
@@spvidz at the end it is the sp workflow. If Iwant to have an mpc workflow I will buy an mpc. Different sampler different workflow. Me personally never used the chop menu on the 404mk2.
@@spvidz I'm coming from an oldschool sampler background and doesn't own a newer mpc. The 404 ist my youngrst device. That's why I'm used to manual chopping and don't like destructive chopping. That why I don't need such menus
Yeah a bigger more robust unit would be cool but that would be taking the device to a different place. I don’t think the 404 series should go that far. They should remake one of the bigger legacy devices instead
@@spvidz I think they could keep the same size just remove the Fx buttons and use a touchscreen for where the Fx buttons are. if the touchscreen was as big as the iPhone screen, then I think it would be just fine.
I think they would need a slightly bigger screen but hopefully could keep the unit size. I imagine it would add some cost to the unit which could end up pushing it into MPC one territory price wise. As you say the FX buttons could be on the touch screen.

They have to allow more than 2 octaves with a midi keyboard plugged in. That’s really bad that they don’t fix that.
Seconded!
Actual chopping with the MARK button how you can on the old SP units!

Both would be so damn nice 👌
Honestly just a filter per pad would be great
true!
Agreed, it would be so helpful.
For me it's still Sidechain and Merge patterns, an extract audio with the effects in it would be nice too
sends for time based FX would be my number one.

I really miss the LOFI button on the SX!
I second the more than 16 chops mpc style would be super clutch! That’s really my only request with all the new updates and koala integration
Even if they add the Fx options in the stack menu. That would allow 4 samples with maybe 4 Fx at the same time.
I'd like to see a function to apply fade out or fade in to single pads while performing
Bpm detection not just 90 bpm as default
Yes sidechain and effects stacking for sure!
What about a quantiztion on the looper? If they will add that it will be amazing!😻
Yeah that would be dope. I think there will definitely be more enhancements to that area in the future 👍

Yes! also that thing with the FX disappearing!
🙌
I would add saving fx parameters (like MFX buttons customization and stuff) per project would be an absolute game changer for live performances 🙏
Sidechain!!! Yes!!
🙌
Man, your next video gotta be the SP vs MPC with new 3.0 Operating System. SP killer or no? 🤔. That linear daw workflow looks pretty inviting!
Yeah I only found out about that yesterday imma check it out properly today! 👍
@@spvidz 🙌🏾.
For real. Akai trying to monopolize with their new 3.0 UI
With the Chops they could leave them tethered to a single pad, but allow you to play them in chromatic mode.
Would really like to have ability to record longer than 4 bars in the looper. 16 bars ideally.
Agreed with everyone else we need sidechaining in compressor
That would be a nice update yeah. I can see that happening
Arpeggios, and the roll function should toggle back and forth between roll functionality and arp.
I'd like to see an option to have a wav of 16 hi hats and set the 16 chops to a single pad to play randomly or some set order, to kind of a dirty multisample to give more feel when finger drumming
Did they add Battery level meter yet? 🔋
I don't think so. On the older devices it was always REMAIN for checking the battery. I can't find anything for the MK2 😤
A better MIDI sync implementation over USB would be perfect.
Great list. Great vid as always.
Thanks for watching 🙏

They definitely need to step up now that Akai about to release 3.0
100% on bus effects. Why we have 4 technically but can manipulate them like 4 pedals per pad. Access 3/4 just like we do 1/2.

In pattern mode each pattern clip should have. Alt,loop. Just like sample mode function
granular synthesis would be nice

Agreed. Don’t know why that’s not been on the machine since day one
@@spvidz yeah they missed the mark on that one.
