I built this deck for Tristan. I spent a lot of time with this man. I saw him doing some painting a few times, but I never asked to see his art. I really feel like I missed an opportunity of seeing goos talent and amazing art… 😅 I might knock his door one day…
Absolutely loved this documentary. It's incredible to see someone pursue their passion for art at a later stage in life. As someone who’s also transitioning into art after a successful career, this hit home for me. The story is beautifully told, and the cinematography is stunning. Kudos to the artist for his bravery and to Matteo for capturing it so wonderfully!
Thank you to inspire me as well with your personal story. It makes me go through difficulties and keep going like you! I also love painting but I stop for longer than I want! I wish you all the best to continue your beautiful work! Really beautiful 😍
During Covid I started dabbling in watercolor. I fell in love with it. This year I have had so much loss of loved ones and friends and I haven’t been able to pick up the brush again. I miss it ❤
@Tristan, thanks for an inspiring story: it feels like you are talking about me half the time! I don't dare to cut the rope (yet) but I am working towards it! I hope that one day I will take that step.
I'm pleased it resonants with you Mike. Yes, it's a big decision and the various implications need to be thought through carefully. But I'm so glad I made the change. Best of luck with your journey!
The videography is genius, the editing also is clearly meshed witth the life story of the subject. Which makes it quite an upsetting watch if you happen to have unresolved philosophical issues...
Initially I read practically every watercolour book in the library. Obviously there's a lot of online material but that can be distracting. I recently started life drawing to improve my skill level. But nothing beats regular practice and trial and error. Embrace the mistakes and failed paintings from the pov of what you can learn from them. Oh and buy the best quality paper and paint you can afford; cheap materials will hold you back. Good luck!
@@trislavenderart l find online tutorials invaluable. Many art books make assumptions about basic skills, and no matter how much they explain, there's no substitute for watching the process. How do you explain water control without watching how pigments disperse, e.g.? A combination is probably best, and l totally agree with the rest of your points
You should also make a documentary about his drawing table. That thing looks amazing.
Great video by the way. Motivational and inspiring!!

The deck's going to be a great additional area to do some painting over the summer! Thanks again Raf for creating this lovely space.
I truly hope you knock on his door one day! Your interest in his art will probably be warmly welcomed and used as continued motivation!
Good job on the deck! That’s a work of art in itself! 😁

How did you actually teach yourself? I'm trying to learn too.

Luckily that painting only requires one brush and one color.
Ok, for this next shot.. Just sit in the back of the bus and try to look natural.
