So many times Lana wanted Clark to take that crucial step of just saying "I want you", yet he always chickened out. They should've been together since season 2! They could've been the best couple ever! What a shame!
From a psychological/gender-studies perspective: Lana is a very feminine girl, so she naturally wants the guy to pursue HER, because it shows that he really wants her. If he is balking and can't make a commitment, she doesn't feel comfortable trying to force him into a relationship - this is very common among (feminine) women. Clark in the early seasons was very shy and feminine, which made him more attractive to a girl like Lana, but as this scene shows, that has its downsides when it comes to things like being assertive and pursuing the girl you want. Both of them develop their masculinity as the show goes on, but with Lana it ends up overshadowing her soft and gentle nature which Clark admittedly says caused him to lose his attraction towards her (I think in season 6 he says this). Clark ends the show by fully becoming a MAN (and Superman), having successfully harmonized his masculine and feminine energies, whereas Lana fails to blossom into a Woman by neglecting her femininity and overdeveloping her masculinity with her hellbent focus on revenge and secrecy. Ironically, Lois, who starts the show as not very feminine, ends the show as the sweet, lovely bride in a flowery, heartwarming wedding. Of course, the reason Lana and Clark aren't together is the wicked Lex Luthor, who messed up Lana - and pushed her towards a dark masculinity - in more ways than we can imagine.

How I wanted own the DC Comics to change this part of Superman's story. They just couldn't evolve us so deeply in a fantastic love story and then play us fool by invalidating all we've seen, all the struggles, forgiviness and promises of love. Clark and Lana is all about love. And their feelings is outta question, for sure.
I think the writers wouldn't have known how to brake them up in the future if they had become a couple so early on. Remember Clark has to end up with Louis no matter what.
My opinion is that she went in there expecting to be with Clark again because he had told her he wanted to be with her earlier in the episode. This is apparent because she shows up so happily in this scene. But as the conversation was starting Clark said "I'm sorry about before, I was way out of line, I was feeling vulnerable", when he said this she sensed that he had regrets and didn't actually mean he wanted to be with her before so before he could finish she launched a preemptive strike to save face and lied about already wanting to be with Adam and that's why she had pulled away before, she lied because she felt humiliated due to Clark's "take-back", so naturally citing wanting to be with Adam was a defense mechanism to save face. She went in there expecting to be back with Clark and he once again led her on at the end. This is why she was crying at the end. Is this about right? Anyone with a different opinion? At first I thought she really had moved on to Adam, but then she was crying at the end, so I rewatched the scene which led to my forementioned opinion.
yup i agree it's clear to see she's still in love with him.. Lana wanted to be pursued by Clark she said that about Adam to wake him up so he would do something instead he was like ok.. i'm just sad how these two ended up in Smallville universe.. they always have to put Lois in just satisfy the mythology.. when Spiderman had MJ, Gwen Stacy is not in the picture i hope they did the same with Clark & Lana.. sometimes i wish i own Smallville so i can rewrite the whole thing..

Lana specifically came to talk to him about what happened in the truck then Lana cut him off before he could explain, with a "the reason I pushed you away is because I met someone else" so she didn't expect anything from Clark, she'd come to tell him she wanted to move on .... She didn't even listen to what he had to say .... when he said "I felt vulnerable but I didn't expect....." to be rejected... so Lana had already made up her mind, what he had to say wouldn't have changed anything in her decision, Lana is right, Clark is so unstable , she doesn’t want to hurt by him anymore …

Then in ‘Whisper’ he _indeed_ wanted to be with her again but wasn’t ready yet. Lana felt it and _intentionally_ didn’t say ‘yes’ immediately. Instead of it she decided to wait a little (knowing how inconsistent he is). And she was right. The prove is the ending of this episode.

People are too dumb an emotional. They keep acting like being an actual alien wouldn't make people treat and look at you different. Plus he still is part of the reason her parents were killed. It's not just a fear of rejection but that she could hate him for life. He'd rather have her as a friend than nothing at all. Not only is she gorgeous but a pretty good person apart from the nagging.
Funniest thing I saw in this episode is when after losing his sight he pulls some books out of his locker... me - Wait, why does he need books when he can't even read them? He's blind! XD
If I had have been Clark here I would have scooped Lana up in my arms and use my super speed to head on over to the Windmill at chandlers field and say “I have powers. I am from another planet called Krypton and it exploded which caused the first meteor shower that killed your parents. They sent me to earth in a spaceship 🚀 then I’d show her my heat vision, tell her about the X-Ray 🩻 vision, and the new power the super hearing. Then finish it off by taking Lana all the way up to the top of windmill and say “this is the truth I’ve been hiding from you for so long. Now you know.” There how hard is that?
Previously, Lana told Adam she wasn't ready to jump into another relationship and he said he just wanted to be her friend AND she was more than okay with that. Previously before that, she was nearly in a relationship with Seth the Magnetic boy. After Clark's break up with Lana, the people started bouncing Lana from one bad boy after another. It was boring and annoying.
Ok girls, what would you like he say? Lana, don't date the other guy, l really love you. Stay with me. Would she change her mine if she listened something like that?

She was trying to decide if she should move on since she kept getting the vibe that Clark doesn't know what HE wants. Don't get me wrong, Clark does know he wants Lana. But because he keeps blowing her off she thinks he doesn't really want her. By the way the reason she pulled back in the car was because she felt that the reason he was reaching out now was because he was in a vulnerable position ...blindness....and that it wasn't sincere. So when he starts explaining at the barn about how he felt vulnerable, she realized her suspicion and cut him off to protect her heart and to keep from being hurt...yet again.
Lana wanted Clark on her terms. Patients and understanding is not in most “teens “ vocabulary. Had she just let Clark work it out and supported him, they could have gotten together and stayed that way. Of course the writers had other ideas.
