Carlisle United top Match of the Day. Had this recorded on VHS and mates came around to watch it until my dad taped over it. Result was no surprise Alan Shoulder, Malcolm Poskett, Jacky Ashurst & Paul Haig were top quality veteran players. Great to see it again, thank you.
Excellent, been waiting 35 years to see this again! Mally Poskett was my favourite player back in those days, City couldn't handle him!
Dave Phillips made a habit of scoring spectacular, televised goals around this time.
I remember this episode of MOTD being shown on UK Gold sometime in the late 90s.
Yes yes yes, thank you!!! Waited for years to see this on UA-cam!
Carlisle’s number 10 Ian Bishop, later of West Ham, Man City, and (going by that shocking mullet) Duran Duran.
Remember seeing that goal from Phillips as a youngster on tv!! Haven’t seen it again until now!! Great strike. And old Helen and her bell at Maine road!! She was there for years ringing that bell !!
A Blott on the landscape! Literally. Now, I am sure, Barnsley snowy pitch would be called off for the little fragile dahlings. Its perfectly playable & you get great games. Now its perfect pitches & really boring. Its just like a Playstation football video game. Thankyou UA-cam & Posters.
The snow on the terraces themselves would have it called off today
Football has lost it's soul and character.
Agree 100% William
I was there, stood on the Kippax as a kid.
Was at Maine Road that day. Shit football, but just turned 20 the week before so full of optimism for what life may have to offer..
Bobby stokoe is a legend
Football Nostalgia! Keep these vids coming!
I remember this game. City were shocking and Alex Williams in goal couldn't catch a cold. Typical second division football on a pitch that back then was called perfect but now would be called a fourth tier pitch.
Proper football!! Especially at Barnsley!! Yes kids football used to be played in those conditions!! With an orange ball !!
What a goal by David Phillips!
Think it featured in the Goal of the Season that year
No Chinese fans there at all
A brilliant watch! Thought I'd just watch a few minutes and ended watching the lot!
What a strike by Phillips ...
Also - 08:07 - Raheem Sterling would still be rolling now!
43 minutes of football. Zero analysis. How Match of the Day should be.
Best motd EVER❤
amazing stuff
Remember this game 21 k crowd
I was only one week old lol
what was kick off time? wondered why still light at the end of the game.. Being February it would be dark by around 4:15
steve kinsey looks like paul calf aka steve coogan character
Mick mccarthy was injured and manhandled off the pitch to keep the game flowing, today there would of been a 10 minute delay and an enquiry.
*the pitch is in perfect condition*
Immediately changes camera to a sandpit in the goalmouth😂😂
I can't get over that mullet wearing Carlisle player, it's a shocker!
Strange thing is... that was all the fashion in the mid 80s and the word "mullet" never existed. It only came about after the fashion had died.
Ex City and Carlisle Keeper John Blott Didn’t He Get Sent Down For Rape?
Yeah, other things too, but that was one. You can search him on the sex offender's list. Did it all while a copper.
Carlisle's goalie here is on the sex-offenders register now.
I've just read that. What an arrogant b*****d! 🤬
