    When you were teasing the secret test was on sale on Friday, I was pretty certain it was Love Notions (love her patterns) and hoping it was this pattern, I have passed on it before but it really looks like a great style with shorts, cropped pants, etc. for summer. I love your Rhapsody Tops! I wasn't sure about the short sleeve version but after seeing yours I'm going to try it for sure. I have made a fair amount of clothes lately (for me) and put them on Instagram. My sister had a look and immediately picked out the Rhapsody Blouse and said that it was the nicest (in her opinion). I have to say I'm in agreement. I love it. I'll be interested to see the change since the previous one fit me to a T. Thanks for all your advice and videos Whitney.

      While I also enjoyed the old version of the top, I find the standard front is a better fit in the armholes on me now, so it’s a better fit overall (as opposed to the full bust front). It’s such a great pattern!

    Your Rhapsody blouse makes are so different, well illustrating the pattern’s versatility, and I appreciate you showing us that. As far as the revised edition, I will download it but keep the original. In making one of each it will be good to see the difference. The Laundry Day Tee before she released this last revision works better for me than the revised version. I’m glad I have both saved. Love Notions designs such wonderful patterns and LDT was the first time I did a pdf pattern, a very good experience.

    Gorgeous blouse!
    The second one you showed (which shows red on my screen), is just lovely, that is my favorite color on you-your eyes really pop when you wear that-the fabric is just beautiful!
    That polka dot fabric is so cute! Really a fun style! I am certain she will love getting all those tops!! (You know I am a natural blonde-and even when I bleach my hair white-I look much better in brighter colors, I find pastels "wash me out" instead of enhancing my features-I only wear them occasionally.)
    OOOHHH...love the one you made out of your leftover rayon-very special! :+)
    Looking forward to watching the Sunday dress sew along!
    So happy you and Gidget didn't cut yourselves from the bulb that broke! Glass is just such a disaster when it breaks, you never feel like you've "gotten it all"! UGH!
    You and Gidet both look beautiful this morning! :+) Loving the color of your lipstick and earrings, this a.m.!
    Off for now!
    Again, thank you for sharing your time and knowledge with us! :+)
    P.S. How is Joyce?

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  4 роки тому

      Thank you, Louise! I actually never wore red before I had my colors down. Now it’s one of my favorite colors on me! I am much more drawn to the more saturated colors now than the pastels, which is completely opposite of what I used to wear before! It’s so weird, but I feel much more myself now.
      Thankfully, no one was hurt with the shattering bulb (other than Gidget’s feelings because she had to sit in the kennel while I cleaned up 🙄).
      Thank you for asking about Joyce! I’ve been texting with her husband and they seem to be doing fine. They are completely quarantined in their home so I’m sure they’re bored!

      Yes, it can be boring, especially when she can't sew any more, I am sure-does her DH have a hobby?
      Off for now-so much to do, and so little time-we all have to seize the moment, and do what we can for others-as well as ourselves!

    I am so enjoying your podcast/vlog. I used to sew most of my own clothes when I was young and then had to work full time and raise children. I'm retired now and trying to get back to sewing. Things are different! Except for Joann, my fabric stores are closed and I am looking for cotton jersey as I need to sew lots of t-shirts. BTW your episodes on the t-shirts is really helpful. Do you have some on-line places that you recommend? I am looking for cotton jersey with some spandex or other fiber that provides stretch. Thanks.

    Literally was about to place my order for he Rhapsody, so now I’ll get it here! Yours are totally gorge! Oh I have to chime in about Cavaliers and Kennels! So Dash became a support dog in March 2019. He went to the nursing home to see gramma and everywhere with me. He turned 2 the previous October. He had to be in a kennel when I got him as I ‘rescued’, him form a life as a show dog. He had an underbite. So he was available but wasn’t neutered because he was going to breed too. Anyway had slight potty problem even though I got him fixed. The other day he was really bugging me, you know being demanding, I mean I’m his slave right? We work out to music and I throw him a toy. So I can’t play music when I sew or hell expect me to workout. I was super annoyed and said you wanna go in your kennel,?(it was over a year!) he laid down and looked like he was going to cry, you know how serious I am! . Guilty oh my goodness! Those eyes🐶👀👁⚡️🔥❄️💨🎻🎻🎻🎻🎯🎰💣🙏😪🤧🤤😰🙄💯💯💯

    Perfect! I’ve always loved the silk version, I think it looks great on you. And......I have finally sorted out my printer this week so all those pdfs I’ve been after have been downloaded and printed. So good to know the block will mean I won’t need to do an FBA - joy!! Off to purchase 😀

    Off topic a bit. On the Monty shirt from style arc. I how did you sew in the collar. I tried following style arc directions and finally ended up doing my own thing but would be happy to find any hints anyone has on this. Thanks

      Ha that's interesting Sarah, as I had a similar problem. I think I put the collar on the wrong way ,as my hand stitching ended up showing at the front and I'm sure it should have been at the back. Is that what happened to you. I've never put a collar on the way they asked, so I was nervous to try it 😉. I hope Whitney can enlighten us 😁💕

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  4 роки тому

      That was a tricky part of the Monty. I’m going to send Style Arc an email and see if they’d mind if I did some sew alongs with their patterns. My sister really wants a Monty so I could make her one in a sew along, possibly!

    I know this is so long ago, Whitney. But did you need to do a narrow shoulder adjustment on this top like you do for McCalls?

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  3 роки тому

      No. I can usually get away with not having to do narrow shoulder adjustments on patterns that offer full bust or cup size options (not always, but often) because I can sew the size for my upper body and still have room for my bust.

    Definetly getting this pattern today and I would love to make one in a red silkie fabric like yours. Do you know of any fabric in this color that is available online? I've been looking and have ordered what looks to be that color on the screen in the past, but when it gets delivered I immediately start making plans to sew up a garment for my best Summer or Winter friends :)

    • @TomKatStitchery

      That’s funny! When I bought this fabric online, ages ago, I thought it was more of a true red and was disappointed that it was such a tomato red. I’m so glad I hung onto it because it’s definitely the red for me! I haven’t seen anything off the top of my head, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled!

    I still LOVE the red version, just because I love that red on you :) Fit-wise, I really like the batik! I have the original pattern. Did I understand you correctly in that the first test of the new block was the mint version for your sister, and the batik was an additional tweak to let out the waist curve? Thanks, Whitney. Oh, and today was my husband's introduction to Gidget - don't our pups make the best assistants (when they're not bumping into things!)? Have a good weekend! EDIT: I didn't have the pattern, after all, so I went over and purchased it. Thanks again!

    I bought this pattern on sale after seeing your versions.
    I have a question about the bias binding on the hem. I watched your video on bias binding on a shirt tail hem, but that was on an open front blouse. How did you connect the ends of the binding when hemming this pullover style top? Did you hem it before sewing the side seams and catch the binding in the side seam? Or did you tuck the end under as you came around to it? Or something else I haven't even thought of?
    Thanks! I love your videos!

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  4 роки тому

      You can do it either way! I like adding it before I sew up one of the side seams and then it gets sewn into the side seam. Then I go around and topstitch it down! However, you could also just tuck it in once it’s in the round as well!

    Hi,
    I just made the blouse in L grading to XL to my hips. I have a 4 inch difference in high and full bust. It is a good fit but slightly tight across the bust. I read that the full bust adds 2 inches to waist and hips. Should I use the L full bust front and not grade up for my hips to XL or just use the XL pattern.

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  4 роки тому +1

      I would try using the full bust L. I think that should solve your problems without getting too big around the neck and shoulders!

      Sizing can be a tough one! For the future, I would suggest also looking at the finished measurements of the pattern (most independent pattern have these in the instructions). I almost always go off the finished measurements. Good luck!

    This is my first time trying to use a Love Notions pattern. I just printed and assembled what I thought would be the best size for me, then I measured the shoulder width. Am I the only one, or is this sloper block very narrow in the shoulder? Large is the closest to my measurements, except my back shoulder width is 16.5", but the Large yoke back is 14". Any suggestions?

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  4 роки тому

      You might just need to adjust the shoulder. Do you have broad shoulders or a broader upper back?

    • @bretaskinner3143
      @bretaskinner3143 4 роки тому

      @@TomKatStitchery Broad shoulders, narrows down very quickly (in my early 30's, I was an inverted triangle, now more hourglass to pear). I gave up guessing and cut out a sleeveless "wearable muslin". Shoulder points are a little narrow, but not as much as I would have guessed. I like it enough to try again, but will add more to full bust adjustment and widen the shoulder to try the short sleeve. I'm always fiddling with patterns, and I haven't made a woven top in years.

    I'm really getting concerned about your vocals. Sounding a bit misused due to possibly trying to talk softer during these many "Safe at Home" days. The gravelly sound as voice tone deepens and diminishes causing what actually puts stress and irritation on the vocal chords. Just a concern knowing how detrimental it can be if not corrected.
    Now, On the topic of presentation, you are the bomb! Thank you so very much for all that you do and have done. The teaching and sharing is above and beyond. To compliment you with a thank you doesn't seem like enough. Take care and let's keep on sewing.

      Thank you! I’m actually a very loud talker in real life. I have a hereditary ear issue that causes early hearing loss. I really need to go to an audiologist to have a baseline taken (if not hearing aides). I am pretty sure the loud talking hasn’t helped my vocal cords at all! Once we can safely visit doctors again, I’ll be making an appointment!
