Just multiply the number of soldiers by 1000-2000 times, add here the screams of the wounded, the slurry of mud, entrails and blood on which the soldiers run, the constant stream of laser and bolter fire from the opposite side, prayers to the Emperor and horror at the sight of His Angels fallen from the hand of Heretics, and you get a typical Monday for the average Imperium Guardsman Also, in this particular scenario, even if the Imperial Guard were victorious, they would most likely be destroyed by the Inquisition, simply for seeing the demons and Chaos (unless, of course, the action takes place after the opening of the Great Rift)
