You mentioned that you like SCARs Balanced mode fan noise but according to review on your site Balanced mode on this laptop is one of the noisiest (simply in terms of Decibels) - or am I missing something? Which notebook has in your opinion best tuned balanced mode (i.e. good performance vs fan noise)? From sound samples it seems like Legion Pro 7… Thank you
Silent on Scar is compareable to other Balance modes performance wise. Performance/Balance is like Turbo. It can max out at around 53 db, but is mostly hovering at around 50 or a bit below on Performance.
I have the Strix G16 (i7 13650HX + 4060) and it is such a joy to use. Personally I would've preferred a 1440p panel but the 1080p is workable. Also would've preferred a numpad too with per key rgb but 4 zone is the next best thing. AND I CAN RUN CYBERPUNK ON RT OVERDRIVE tho with a bit of frame dips, how cool is that! I imagine the larger screen on your G18 must be a joy to use, feels like 18" gives you the proper desktop vibe, and with the numpad too.
To be honest, it was flying a little under my radar. We only tested the Neo 16, which maxes out with a 4070. I will look into it. Maybe it makes sense to test the "proper" Helios 16 as well! Thanks for mentioning it!
Asus Strix performance seems amazing but the build quality doesnt look premium at all. Lenovo's pro 7 with 4080 must be the most balanced choice. Awesome comparison my friend, thank you so much!

Question regarding the Scar 16. Let's say with HDR OFF you set your screen brightness to something low like 20, now when you turn HDR ON, is there a bug where it suddenly sets your screen brightness to something high around 65 (check in system tray)? Please let me know.

@@oriontechtips1980 depends. The strix 17 is massive, if you don't move the laptop around much it will demolish both of the others. Big screen should make it more comfortable as well. G16 if you want to carry it around somewhat, don't want an external monitor and are okay with it's memory config (only one with no sodium slots). The g16 also seems to have the best speakers and. Stuff like that if you are used to MacBooks. Overall a hard choice. Really depends on what your plans are.
@@Havanu81 I disagree. Every person has their own weight and size requirements and can give up different things to get there. The g16 is very thin, to achieve that they had to solder the ram (I don't like that) and heavily limit the power of the 4080 and 4090 versions. All of the internal space of a 16 inch monitor is used for a 2nd m.2 slot and big speakers. As a headphone user and someone who wants an Ethernet port and like to keep tech running for as long as possible this is a combination of poor choices. There can never be a perfect laptop. Large screens, big battery, high powered quiet cooling, big speakers, big ports-all of them come at a cost of the size and weight of a laptop. Some people want all of these features and only transport the laptop from desk to desk or by car. Others want something absolutely tiny they can balance on one hand for minutes at a time and do not care about gaming or other comforts. This makes the laptop market exiting, but also means that your ideal laptop might be a very expensive model or one that does not even exist. I was personally looking for an egpu laptop with upgradable ram, zen5 CPU with lots of power, a glass trackpad for longevity and a fast port to connect the GPU, ideally in a small 14 inch size. I don't think that laptop exists. I may have to buy arrow lake, get by with the igpu and build a PC later or buy another laptop with a newer GPU.
@@davitdavid7165 wow thank you for your response. This was very informative. I still love the G14 for its super sleek size and performance package, and that display is simply amazing. It does get quite hot and loud in its higher performance modes, though. So that is definitely a compromise, but it should fit your desired use case quite well!
Great video! I was surprised by how badly the Ultra 9 CPU handicapped the x16, and also in battery life?? Must be some really unoptimised drivers and power profiles. A MiniLED panel is definitely going to make me look at the Legion 9 over the Pro 7. Althuogh I'm biased having a MiniLED panel myself on my Yoga Pro 9i 16. Great look at the high end, unattainable Porsche class laptops.

Yep, it sometimes does wonky stuff. For the Alienware, it's better to just leave it on balanced and be done with it. Just keep in mind that it is just one game, and wattages will vary greatly depending on the use case.
Why would they waste so many Watts on 13/14 gen HX chips vs way lower wattage and better performing 7800x3D...? Doesn't make any sense. These are gaming laptops, not content creator or rendering laptops.
I would argue that these are not "only" gaming Laptops. And there is only the 7945HX3D for laptops, and you can only kind of get it in a single laptop ...
Correct, every reviewer should be criticizing these companies for not releasing more AMD options since until has not been relevant in the market for a handful of years for mobile use. Thankfully that changed this year with their actually efficient core Ultra series 2, but I'm not sure those are going to be top of the line for gaming.
@@stevenswall I think it was confirmed that Intel won't use these in gaming laptops and is planning to launch another architecture for gaming laptops specifically. Also people in the industry say that and is not a very cooperative company, which is why only Asus has made stuff with it and Lenovo a bit
I am not sure if the laptop OEMs are at fault here. I think there are a lot more factors at play than you might imagine. AMD might be unable to deliver these chips in the quantities needed for manufacturers to bet on complete line-ups. It might also be that AMD laptops simply do not sell as well ...
At the end of the video you mentioned that you would like a zephyrus pro but don't we already have that with the p16? Silent on Scar is compareable to other Balance modes performance wise. Performance/Balance is like Turbo. It can max out at around 53 db, but is mostly hovering at around 50 or a bit below on Performance.
Idk bout y'all, but my Omen 16 does one heck of a job
Awesome, we just found it a bit lacking compared to the laptops in this videos, which does not mean it is a bad notebook!
I got the asus strix g18 with 4060 even, i didnt have high expectation, but it more than shattered my expectation and then some.
I used the Scar 18 for quite a while, and really fell in love with the screen size.
while a good lenovo laptop is hands down high quality, their quality control even on their premium line leaves more to be desired
Will you be working on the best 18-inch gaming laptop?
Still debating! ;)
Great video brother , question for you. If you had to go pick between Lenovo 9i or Razer 16 for gaming/editing, which one would you pick?
Can I know your reasons why you do not include Acer Predator Helios 16?
To be honest, it was flying a little under my radar. We only tested the Neo 16, which maxes out with a 4070. I will look into it. Maybe it makes sense to test the "proper" Helios 16 as well! Thanks for mentioning it!
I think the M3 max should get an honorable mention because using crossover, Cxpatcher and steam you can play many modern titles.
Asus Strix performance seems amazing but the build quality doesnt look premium at all. Lenovo's pro 7 with 4080 must be the most balanced choice. Awesome comparison my friend, thank you so much!
You are more than welcome! And yes, the Legion pro 7 is almost a "no-brainer" when looking for a high-end performance laptop, but that MiniLED in the Scar :O
@@NotebookcheckReviews man, exactly, the mini led makes me want the scar but i dont like it's chassi at all, that eye logo on the lid, the led stripe on the back, looks too gaming for me. As you said, it's time for a zephyrus pro or something like it.
@@areta-r Once you go mini-led, you can't go back. I have the 4080 legion pro 7 as well as Scar 16/18, and hands-down the mini-led is just ridiculous. The chassis on Scar looks cheap but it's well built and I've had no issues with it.
It's so hard to use my legion pro 7i as a laptop now, so I hooked it up as my 2nd desktop machine to my alienware 34" oled. Seriously, once you go mini-led or a good oled, you can't go back. I can't wait until they start making tandem oleds more common in gaming laptops because that would solve the brightness issue (I think HP has one out this year but its not really a great gaming laptop). My 11" iPad with the tandem oled brightness is just amazing.

Has a numpad
The g14 is the smallest and has the smallest screen. If you really want to move it around and then are planning on using an external monitor, maybe a keyboard when home it is best.
G16 if you want to carry it around somewhat, don't want an external monitor and are okay with it's memory config (only one with no sodium slots). The g16 also seems to have the best speakers and. Stuff like that if you are used to MacBooks.
Overall a hard choice. Really depends on what your plans are.
@@davitdavid7165 G16 is the perfect compromise between power and portability. The other two are on opposite sides of the scale.
I am a student so I do take my laptop around if I go with the scar 17 I could put it in a backpack with wheels to lighten the load, but there’s no denying it is the heaviest out of the three laptops in terms of your comment about the G 14. I do have an external monitor keyboard and mouse that I use at home, however I am still using my laptop often in class, at the library, in the coffee shop, the train, at hotels, and at friends houses, etc. where I don’t have access to those peripherals. I do think the G 16 would be a good sweet spot but the fact that it only comes with 32 GB of non-upgradable ram stings a little bit if they offered a 64 GB model I would feel a lot more comfortable buying it because I want my laptop to last for a long time.
Those MiniLEDs are so good. I am torn between the Legion 7i and Yoga Pro 9i myself. Same price but the Legion has more CPU and GPU power. The Yoga has that MiniLED touchscreen I really want. So confusing
@@_shreyash_anand The Legion is more powerful and you can hook it up to an expensive monitor if needed. The Yoga has an insane screen and crazy good speakers and is really thin and premium. But, if you're buying it primarily as a gaming device I would go Legion.

I am daily driving the Pro 7 right now, and while I think it is an amazing performance machine I sure miss a MiniLED or OLED.

You did omit the legion 7. Also full aluminum build, doesn't look as macbooky though. Does also have upgradable ram. It is thicker, but not much heavier.
I would also consider a 14 inch of some kind, maybe one from the compact video they made. You can use an external monitor for really hardcore gaming and productivity

Having had the Blade 16 24’ & Zephyrus G16 (Intel) the battery life is pretty bad with the Razer, the Intel G16 leaves it for dust and the AMD variant is probably 2x-3x+ the battery life of the Blade 16 (at least doing basic tasks, all of them on battery whilst gaming will net you the same. ..And seriously, Alienware, you can't be putting such 3rd rate screens on your premium offerings, its an instant no sale for me as long as you keep doing it.
Maybe, but consider that you will find a lot of these on sale in the weeks/months to come and that even if new stuff is announced at CES, who knows when it will hit the market.
Agreed, on the display situation with the X16, that said not everyone needs the brightest screen, and apart from that, its not a bad screen per se.
And you can usually find it for a lot less than the other options, so I guess it is the good old pick your poison!
@@Dr.D00p Being unveiled at CES is not the same as being available for purchase. In my country and presumably many others, laptops with new GPUs ain't releasing till March or April next year. Ain't nobody got the patience to wait that long lol.
The laptops right now are on sale (to clear out the inventory for the new stuff coming Q1 next year). Going from last time, it took around 6 months+ for laptop GPUs to be available, its likely that 2025 machines at CES will still have 40-series GPUs since NVIDIA has made no moves to release 50-series yet (the 4090 was already announced in 22’ for over a month at this point + also out for a week+) It looks like the top end 50-series GPUs will come out at CES perhaps.

@@NotebookcheckReviews My Intel 10th generation Razer 15 Advanced has now slowed to a crawl and should be replaced SOON; is it 'safe' to buy one of the Intel models you reviewed herein? Please compare the list of Intel processors which have had degradation issues to the Intel processors contained in these just reviewed laptops. Nomenclature of Intel CPU names still has me confused as to which to avoid. Thank you.
