  • Friday WX VLOG 1/21/2022: ❄️🌨️Snow on the way this evening, not a bunch, but still impactful on the roads. The cold air and a very quick burst of snow this evening could make for very slick roads after sunset tonight. #snOMG #cltwx #ncwx #scwx #wcnc #weather #charlotte #northcarolina #southcarolina
Despite the excitement over a quick round of fresh snow Friday evening for Charlotte, WCNC Charlotte Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich is warning about impacts from the dangerously cold temperatures.
"The temperature is actually falling," Panovich said Friday morning in his vlog on WCNC Charlotte's Weather IQ UA-cam channel.
The high-temperature Friday in Charlotte was actually recorded near midnight when it was just barely above freezing at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Temperatures through the rest of Friday will be in the 20s.
"When the high temperature for the day is 34 degrees, you know it's not good," WCNC Charlotte meteorologist Chris Mulcahy said. "This is the coldest temperature we've had since 2018, so it's been a while."
Charlotte did get some light snow Thursday night. Another quick round is possible between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Friday in Charlotte.
"The heaviest and duration isn't enough that it's going to change the forecast," Panovich said Friday forewarning against anyone wishcasting for more snow.
Between a trace and an inch of snow are possible Friday in Charlotte. The higher amounts will be east of Charlotte.
Locations such as Wadesboro, Rockingham, Hamlet, Chewraw, and Southern Pines could see upwards of two inches of snow. Those locations will be closer to the moisture being fed inland by the coastal storm.
The highest amounts in the Carolinas will be in northeastern North Carolina.
"Once you get from Raleigh eastward, that's where they're really going to see heavy snow," WCNC Charlotte forecaster Larry Sprinkle said Friday.
Raleigh could see up to four inches with upwards of six inches along the Albemarle Sound, which is located in northeastern North Carolina surrounded by cities like Plymouth, Edenton, and Elizabeth City.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for eastern portions of North Carolina.
Further south along the Carolina coast, the threat turns from snow to ice.
"From Wilmington, down to Oak Island, North Myrtle Beach, and that area, there's real potential for an ice storm," Sprinkle said.
The National Weather Service has issued an Ice Storm Warning for these portions of the Carolina coast.

Thank you for all of your hard work Brad, it does not go unnoticed.. Some people are toolbags, but that because they don’t not understand how difficult it is to predict weather in the North Carolina Piedmont.. Keep up the solid work my friend, you’re the man.

I once knew a fellow that coined a phrase I'll never forget. "The only time I'm going to worry about the weather is when there ain't gonna be any."
