- Colter Wall graces us with some laid-back fingerpicking, playing our gorgeous 1937 Martin 00-17 set with a vintage DeArmond acoustic pickup.
Wall recorded a seven-song EP, Imaginary Appalachia, with Jason Plumb as producer in 2015 at Studio One in Regina, Saskatchewan. He collaborated on the EP with other artists from Regina such as Belle Plaine and The Dead South. He described his music as a blend of blues, folk and Americana. The EP was released on March 9, 2015, and "The Devil Wears a Suit and Tie" was released as his first single. His music gained more attention in late 2015 when professional wrestler Brock Lesnar mentioned him as a favorite artist during an interview with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin Songs from the album were featured in the television show Dog the Bounty Hunter, and the films Hell or High Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. The track used in the films, "Sleeping on the Blacktop", gained more than a million streams on Spotify.
In 2016, Wall opened for Lucinda Williams at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. He was signed to Rick Rubin's American Songs publishing company.
His first full-length album, self-titled Colter Wall, was produced by Dave Cobb at the RCA Studio A in Nashville. Wall was accompanied by Cobb on acoustic guitar, Chris Powell on drums, Mike Webb on piano, and Robby Turner on pedal steel.[9] The album was released on May 12, 2017 and according to Wall, most of the songs on the album are autobiographical.
His second album, Songs of the Plains, was announced in July 2018 and was released on October 12, 2018. In June 2020, Wall announced his third album, Western Swing & Waltzes and Other Punchy Songs for release on August 28 with independent label, La Honda Records.

Damn, CME must have a time machine and picked this guy up from the 1800s. He is the real deal.
He’s a true Canadian cowboy. Love his work
Colter wall makes music for the soul. I can’t stop listening to his music- it’s been almost 9 months now of almost entirely him. He’s helping save country music
@Alex Hopfauf Give Chris Stapleton a go also. Not as old school country but not whatever passes for "new" country either
I hear you on that. I pretty much have been listening exclusively to him for almost a year. Hes simply the best I've ever heard, no one even compares.... but I dont veiw his music as country. Western maybe... but even that doesnt quite fit. It's almost in a genre of its own... this song sums up his entire career so far too me... I always thought of cowboys as people who were miserable because they were so lonely, but they learned to embrace there misery to the point where they couldnt part with it, and found happiness in it... and that's how I see myself and Colter Wall
I feel the exact same way about his music and it's all I can seem to listen to along with a handful of songs .
Wasn't a fan of country till I heard Kate Mcannon now the genre has taken over my Spotify and UA-cam
Three years of this
absolutely incredible!!! the world needs a story teller again!!
Had this song stuck in my head for 5 days !! I ain't even mad !
I want this song to be played at my funeral
Literally made the same request after hearing this song
Just discovered this one. I thought the same
Amen, brother.
Same here
Amazing Canadian talent right there. Keep it up Colter
Straight from the plains of Saskatchewan!!!
Colter Wall is honestly one of the people i look up to most when it comes to guitar, along side Jack White. This guys got the tone, style, and character for just this type of music. And hell, the guitars awesome to.
yeah, brother jack's the dookie, too!!!
Dude can strum with the best of them
Gotta love an all Mahogany Martin, nice tune dude.
The spirit of Mississippi John Hurt flows through him on this one.
I'm 16 and discovered Colter Wall a few months ago. Absolutely in love with everything that he does.
Colter I wish you would come to Texas for a concert I'd definitely pay to see you live here in the lonestar state.
Hearing his voice while looking at his young face never gets old. It's unbelievable.
mind blowing talent
The best words (AUTHENTIC,REAL) The World, at least mine needs more of this in it. Please Colter continue. God Bless.
🙏🏼🤠
Song is definitely chilling. Hard to describe
He sounds to me like he grew up listening to the American era Johnny Cash. Remarkable talent.
This guy was born 150 years too late
... or the shit went down 150 years early.
No he was born just right..
No sir, he is what we need, along with the rest of the up and coming artists.
I say the same thing about my self. I live in a city and hate it lol for now its what's going to pay for my piece of land and materials to build my home
@Curtis Reilly awesome way to think about it. And I believe your right
bone chilling is a perfect description. Great stuff
This guy is fantastic
I've listened to just about everything he's done and every now and then, as I surf through UA-cam, I fire up one of his older tunes and rediscover why I got hooked on his journey...he delivers entertainment through his musical journeys and take you along for the ride.

COLTER WOW ...
Just bought his album. Holy cow. CME, you guys never fail to bring in the best talent. This is some of the most inspiring music since I first heard Shakey Graves. Time to buy that cowboy hat I've been eyeing.
Jordan Brazinski when I heard this I thought he was like the love child of Johnny Cash and Shakey Graves
Xander Scotland heck yes
Unfortunately, he's Brad Wall's love child.
What does that have to do with anything, ya idiot. Kids got talent.
Fuck off dipper
he is so bad ass upload all his songs! can't believe he's only 20
Now 25 this year to turn 26. Times flies
Thank you for making beautiful music
Dude, it's really awesome!
I'm so upset, that can not hear you alive, because I am from Ukraine, but if I'm in America, then sure I'll go to your concert!
I’ll tell you man it would be worth every penny
Just stumbled upon your comment, hope your safe and doing allright man..
I can't get this out of my head! I love it :)
Glad you enjoy it! Subscribe for more sessions!
Masterpiece
Pure transcedent poetry delivered with seamless emotion and sincerity
That sadness. It follows me everywhere I go as well.
All this video lacks is campfire, the night sky and a pot of coffee.
Spelt likka rong 😉
God bless Country music 🤠🤠💚💚🇧🇷
bloody awesome
Badass!
Great job!!!
Love this
Excellent! Lotta heart and soul.
But also… no one’s gonna talk about that beauty of a Martin guitar?!?
Sure is a good one, 1937 Martin 00-17
My heros have always been like that... thanks for this
Nice vintage sound and good looking
I can relate so deeply to these lyrics.
Wonderful 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻💜🌹
I want a vintage 0-15 so bad.
I believe it's a 1937 OO-17
Good lord. I'm at a loss for words!
Music perfected.
Kid's amazing
Wowwww ❗❗❗
WAW this is special,my hair is up.
The Voice
Sing man my 18 year old daughter loves your sound and it's dying......
The Kid has it all. Please don't ruin him. Gettin' back to country. Sounds like a mixture of Johnny and Waylon.
That is EXACTLY what I thought when I first heard him sing!
If you put Johnny and Waylon together on their best days, it doesn't touch Colter Wall. The greatest of all time in my mind, and it's only the beginning, hopefully
Agree don't ruin him. He does not need a huge back up band. Love his solo work more than some of the studio stuff.
@@45AlfaCharliePapa gotta love Western Swing and Waltzes and other Punchy Songs. Good ol Western swing to dance with your hunny with!
Honestly when I heard him sing it was the song living on the Sand I was like I've never heard this Johnny cash song then I looked it up and it was colter wall and I was like wow this guy has more talent in his fingernails then I have in my whole body
How do you play so good 😭😭😭😭😭
Welcome to Stockholm Jan 23 look forward to THE concert at bryggarsalen
god danm CME please do a tour of the studio. Your sound guys are fucking great. We wanna see them work. How do they do what they do?
Thanks 👍
He plays full step down but uses capo at second fret to play in standard tuning.
Ok...who left their mobile on while this was recording?!
J Hearne might be him
anyone know if this is an original or a cover? amazing voice and talent.
shenanigans611 he wrote this song colter wall is probably one of the best singer song writer's alive just listen to all his songs
shenanigans611 its original
@@isaiahwilliams7181 not probably, if you ask me. He is the best. His songs, they transcend every other experience with music I've had
Please cover some David Allan Coe songs, Colter.
CME- Is there any way, as a gift to us faithful subs, you can work w/ Colter to make this very song available for download? I had to listen twice! This guy has it all, the vibe, look, voice, lyrics. Like he was transported from the 1800's. I can only imagine the other music swimming around in his head. But seriously, try to make this performance available as a music download. Thanks!!
Ronnie Williams. You can get plugins to your browser, like Firefox that will rip the audio from the video.
If you wanna be a cheap scrub like me: www.flvto.biz/
Ronnie Williams UA-cam converter!
Ronnie Williams just buy the album on iTunes or google play. You won't regret it. There are another dozen songs on it as good as this one. Don't look now but this guy is 21 years young. May he have a fruitful, long, and prosperous career.
@@claym1051 and 7 years later, the guy still hasn’t released a record that wasn’t phenomenal
does anyone know his picking pattern?
I had a 42 00-17. Sold it for 1300 in silver dollars. I'm kicking myself but it WAS beat to hell
I feel manwillbeatleastunderstood
1:50, turn off your cellphones or change frequency in post.
What tuning is he playing in??
I know I’m a year late, but Colter Wall tunes his guitar a full step down and capos on the 2nd fret putting him back into standard tuning
Can someone please post the lyrics to this song
Song?
Is that you Mr. Cash
lyrics, PLEAAAASE :)
No bull, I attempted suicide to this song. When they found me, I was conscious and this was playing in the background. This song holds a certain melancholy meaning to me. Wistful reminders. I'm glad I failed.
Hey, I’m glad you failed to.
I was there a few months ago with this same song on repeat. Fell asleep with an empty bottle and a machete to my throat. When I woke up, it was still playing but It sounded different.
I debated for a long time if I should write this, I just wanted you to know you aren’t alone. We don’t know each other but I’m glad you’re alive
@@jkitty. I'm glad I'm not alone, I don't know what it is about this song lol. But holy shit that's crazy and I'm so happy you're still alive. Hopefully life is getting better for you. Life is truly cruel and mean sometimes :/
Both y'all deserve to be on this earth and observe it's beauty, sound to me to be doin just fine
Am I crazy or does he not use his index finger to pick at all?
i can't see that he uses it... at first, i thought on the down stroke...
He does in a few songs, i pick similarly, hand shape will change the way you pick, my middle finger extends well past my index so its easier to use.
1:43 someone left there phone to close to the camera
I wonder if it takes him as much work on his guitar to fret out that low E as it takes for me to try not to fret out the low E??
Stay off the horse. We need you.
sounds kinda like Cash
Same raw emotion
Did he make this song? Or cover? Not to much of a big dear;)
$4.495,00
Holy fuck, man doesn’t use his index finger at all.
Great take on this song. Love that guitar. --Vets for Trump 2020
Its his song
Fuck Trump
My pres!
As if Sam Elliot started to sing
terrible recording equipment, a shame since his performance is terrific
Listen this on 2x normal speed you will thank me later
