Love the Ordinary AHA BHA peel. It’s purple in color and looks wicked creepy on the skin but I love how wonderful my face looks. Great video Dr Dani!!!
Dani, What a great video about Glycolic Acid! Clear, concise and informative! I also appreciate that you explained an expensive product is not necessarily better than an inexpensive one. I purchased The Microdelivery Exfoliating Facial Wash that you suggested during the Ulta Sale and I really like it. Lastly, I also purchased on your recommendation the CLARINS Exfoliating Cleanser at TJ Maxx the 4.3 oz for $19.99. TJ Maxx and Marshall's seem to be getting in some really nice high end products for very reasonable prices. I recommend you taking a look in person or online. Thank you for all your honest and hard work!
Sheri Winter hey Sheri!! I'm so glad you like those exfoliating washes!! Just be sure to wash gently so you don't irritate your skin!! I'll need to check out Marshall s and tj max!!
Thanks for this informative video=) You have gorgeous skin btw!! For years I have used the Apha Hydrox BODY lotion on my FACE 2x a week. It's strong & as you probably know any AHA gets stronger with age. I get the body lotion because it's a bigger quantity for the price. I have fairly sensitive skin, but I have never had a problem with this product. I also love their cleanser
I use retin a ( for many years!!!) and glycolic acid cream 25% for many years... one one day one another day and then a moisturizer on top...or one for a week and then the other for a week...I always get compliments on my skin... from the neck up I don'ts look my age... now from the neck down well that's another story🤣
Dr. Dani, Thank you very much for this informative information. I really appreciate it. Also thank you for the links and the different price points. I enjoy that you are very direct and to the point. If I was in the Texas area I would definitely use your recommendation to your derm. Hope your having a great day. 🌸
Love your videos. i like your taste in application as well as color choices. Thanks for the tips. I struggle with a lot of anti wrinkle products because i still have oily skin even though i am 45 and went through menapause very early. Thanks again and keep up the great work.
Great video Dr Dani! Useful and timely info for sure as I was just searching for some glycolic products to try! Thanks and have a fabulous weekend! 😃 Pam
Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I appreciate your approach of breaking down a topic and providing specific information about an ingredient. I was surprised when you said AHAs are effective at breaking down sebum and clearing out pores. Since (as you mentioned) it is water soluble and therefore doesn’t penetrate oil, I understood it was not effective at exfoliating below the surface but particularly good at surface exfoliation of fine lines and discoloration. I’ve always heard BHA, which is oil soluble, discussed as the exfoliant most effective for oily skin and acne because it can penetrate oil congested pores and help clear them out. I use glycolic or lactic acid most of the year for my sensitive, dryish skin but during the summer I switch to a BHA because my skin can get pretty oily. I’m so glad you mentioned that effective AHAs can be found at various prices. I have used and like some of the Alpha products you list. They are all fragrance free which is one less irritant to worry about. I’m currently using Derma E’s overnight peel which is a 5% AHA (a mixture of glycolic and lactic acids) that costs less than $20. The main thing I look at (besides the ingredients) is the ph of the product. I’ve read anything above a ph of 4 is not going to be very effective at these lower percentages. There are some expensive creams with AHA or BHA but the ph is too high for effective exfoliation. I’m looking forward to watching more of your skincare series.
WhatNext? You are absolutely right that bc it’s a water soluble molecule it doesn’t penetrate pores in the way that something like salacylic acid does. I should really edit to say that it’s not anti acne but rather anti blackhead. That’s why sal acid is so much better than glycolic acid for treatment of acne. Glycolic acid is good at dealing with blackheads which are more superficial. bc it is a surface exfoliant it prevents (to some degree) what starts acne and blackheads by its keritinolytic properties. But with someone with deeper acne I agree that glycolic acid would not be useful compared to sal acid. Btw- you totally sound like a dermatologist!! 😊
Love your educational videos. Learning about quality active ingredients will be helpful when selecting products that tend to want to sell name brands when ingredients should be the focus.
I am interested in adding glycolic acid to my shampoo as I have seen several hair loss specialists have added to their shampoos. How would you recommend going about this? Thanks for the help.
Thank you for such an informative video..... There are SOOOOOO many different products out there, it's hard to know what works and what's just a gimmick. How would I go about using glycolic acid in conjunction with Retin A cream? Every other night?
I have lost 10 kilos and I will lose at least 10 more. My breast have sagged a bit how do I lift it up PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT IT. Also how do you deal with white stretch marks?
Hey Dani! I am a teen and have extremely oily skin. Two of my skincare product that i have ordered have Glycolic Acid and i wanted to know about it before using the product. I do not use any other AHAs or BHAs though...can you help me with that?
I subscribed because you are so polite. :) thanks for this information. I just bought the roller Haha forget the name it's on my fridge and bought the glycolic acid here is to hoping
Hi.. I am using retin a every night with no irritation or peeling...can i start using glycolic..once week say saturday. Wud this show me positive result..or shyd i use it twice..nd retina a on other days. Thank you
Simran Begum it's better to use it as a part of your night skincare routine, because acid can cause hyperpigmentation when the sun is out. for morning skincare routine, use something which doesn't have acid, like plant based toners and stuff like this. and don't forget to use spf
HI Sarah. Absoloutely. Below I will link a glycol acid creme that will help, you can use a salacylic acid wash (ill link), or lactic acid (ill link). Make sure to moisturize the affected areas bc that helps too. Hi Dr. DaniFisher I agree with you that Dr. Lane she's the best doctor I am live in Canada and I have very bad malesma I follow her on Instagram she is very helpful now my Melasma getting better
Thanks for the information! You reference AHA. I am using a 2% BHA liquid salicylic acid (Paula's Choice), and the 2% AHA glycoic acid. Can you tell me the difference? My pores seem noticeably smaller after using the BHA, but not the AHA.
Marie B. Hi Marie! The only difference Is glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid whereas salacylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid. Stay tuned! I already filmed my next video on salacylic acid (bha) for next week!
I wonder if you have oily skin. Other sourcessss I found mention AHA is for dry skin and glycolic acid is part of AHA. Meanwhile if you have oily and acne prone skin, BHA suits you.
I am a licensed esthetician and it sounds like you may have stripped away your skins natural barrier and need to rebuild it. Glycolic acid is amazing but you need to use caution with it because it can be very aggressive if overused. Everyone's skin is different and tolerates things on a different level than the next person. In the mean time try using a non foaming cleanser like Murad's sensitive skin cleanser. It's perfect for over processed skin. What moisturizer are you using? Are you using a serum? Discontinue the use of the glycolic acid until your barrier is repaired. When you do decide to use it again start out using it once a week. Going to see a knowledgeable esthetician would help as well. I could say a lot more on this topic but I'll keep it short and simple :) Hope this helps!
The Ordinary 7 % it is really great and cheap. In two weeks my fine lines were gone. Combined with the ordinary moisturizer it is amazing.
Love the Ordinary AHA BHA peel. It’s purple in color and looks wicked creepy on the skin but I love how wonderful my face looks. Great video Dr Dani!!!
