THANK YOU for this Tim. This is "groovy", "outta sight" sixties music at its best. This was one of the first songs that combined rock with Gospel and became a HUGE MEGA HIT for a very very troubled time with the Viet Nam war and everything. Thank you for bringing it back to life❣️
If you go down the 5th D rabbit hole, you'll notice that their early hits are group harmonies, but the later you get and get to their later hits, they're going to be Marilyn McCoo centric. She has to be on the Mount Rushmore of underrated great voices ever.
I'm just smiling from ear to ear listening to Billy Davis, Jr. taking us home at the end. My mom played this record a lot when I was growing up, and it's always so uplifting to hear.
I remember this song! This song feels like summer! You feel like going on a picnic, putting on a maxi dress, and sipping lemonade! Love your reaction! 🙂 Welcome back! 🤗
If you haven’t seen Questlove’s doc Summer of Soul, please find it. 5th Dimension perform among a number of all time greats, all for free in the park on the weekends during the summer of 71. The best part of the doc is showing it to the artists who mostly hadn’t ever seen the footage. Two of the members of this band are still married and they teared up. Moving and also a total get down. Thanks for this!
Wish y'all could see my parrot dancing to this song...🤣 I have loved the 5th Dimesion every since I was a little bitty girl. Marilyn McCoo's voice is one of a kind!
So you know these two melodies are from the 60s musical Hair - the first and final songs. The 5th recorded them together like this and it was a huge hit. I think you’d love the entire song track. The musical is a microcosm of the hippie culture and anti war movement of that time. Thanks for posting this and letting that sun shine in and out of your heart!
This was a huge #1. "One Less Bell To Answer", "Wedding Bell Blues" and "(Last Night) I Didn't Get To Sleep At All" are other big hits of theirs. So glad you're back, missed ya!
Great choice!! Never get tired of hearing this song or Marilyn McCoo's beautiful voice or 5th Dimension's perfect harmonies. They made this song so hugely popular in the late 60s, early 70s that high school marching bands across the country were performing it, including mine. So different.
Hi Tim. Welcome back!! You were missed!! I love the 5th Dimension!! That song is wonderful as is One Less Bell to Answer and Up Up snd Away. They were one of the best groups from the 60's!!
Saw them in concert in the late sixties (and I had been to many, many concerts of great groups and artists by then) and the Fifth Dimension were far and away the most entertaining, personable group I had the pleasure to witness. Not just good music, but all around good people singing it. I will remember them for the rest of my life.
Was lucky enough to see them in Central Park in NYC, they were giving a free concert. I just happened to go to the park that Sunday afternoon. Aquarius is my sign and I'm of that generation so have always loved this song.
It does this old man's heart good to see you kids react the same way when we heard Aquarius the first time. This was pretty much our anthem. Summer of love. Good times.
It's impossible Tim to not feel what you're feeling when you listening to the second half of this song because it's talking about the world might turn its back on you but open up your heart. When you're lonely open up your heart it's just an emotional exciting feeling to listen to this song even all these years later. God bless you and your brother man
Tim, we remember that song, beautiful man peace baby!!! Thank you for bringing this song to us!!! Wonderful memories ❤❤❤ Keith said the "hippie in him is coming out"!!!! Thank you 😊 Joan and Keith 😊
So impressed by the way you reacted to "Let the Sunshine In." It hits everybody,. I was a pre-teen kid in ultra-white Vermont when the song came out, bad household, but the song just gave me hope and joy. Looks like you got a piece of that emotion too.
I had this 45 record when I was 8 years old...a white boy in Dallas...I had never heard anything like it...I played it so many times I almost wore the grooves on the record out!!!!
I listened to this song quite a bit when I was going through a very difficult time in my life. Even when you are depressed it is impossible not to be a little be uplifted by Let the Sunshine In.
TIM, LOOKS LIKE THIS (SONG) TOUCH (YOU) DEEPLY. TEARS WERE ABOUT TO (FALL), ARE (YOU) ALRIGHT???? LET GO AND RELEASE!!!! WE (ALL) LOVE YOU ❤️. TILL NEXT ⏲️ TIME
This is from the show "Hair", a wonderful show that was very much tuned into those times. The Fifth Dimension's voices weave together into a perfect fabric of music. Thank you Tim! So glad u dig it!
Here's where the song came from, the movie musical Hair. Sadly, Treat Williams, the guy with the dark curly hair that burns his draft notice, was killed last week while riding his motorcycle. It's actually a great movie and it still appropriate today. ua-cam.com/video/oRPNXfqALOo/v-deo.html
I'm sitting here crying like a little kid. My dad was a drummer, actually played with Little Richard, Air Force Jazz Band and others. He used to set his drums up on our porch, play this song and jam. Everyone on the block would come out and we would have a party in the street. He is 84 now, has cancer and recently had a heart attack. This brought back the sound, smells, love and energy of my childhood. Thanks for that.
Loved this song as a pre-teen. I even made up a dance to go with it. Gosh, I still remember it and started dancing almost on autopilot hearing this from all those years ago. Thanks for that! The 5th Dimension sang beautiful harmony. There are those who say we are in the Age of Aquarius. The combo of the songs is perfect for that.
Wow, great reaction! Sometimes we all need an upbeat, feel good song to lift our spirits. Another fun one by the 5th Dimension is, Up, Up, & Away. My high school did a special performance at year’s end & some of the kids built a paper mache balloon for the number. I had to be no more than 8 yo, but I still remember it vividly! Check out some of their other songs too, they had scads of hits in the ‘60s. 😄
Wow, this song sure takes me back to my childhood! Baby boomer here! Love love this song! It was playing on all the radio stations! Great memories!! Thanks for appreciating such great talent!! 😊
Marilyn McCoo is perhaps the most beautiful woman ever. And her voice. Listen to the comments "One Less Bell To Answer". Then you see her at her very best.
Loved the group and this was a favorite. Soul to soul... uplifting vibe, beautiful voices & harmony. Let the sun shine in. Gonna get this back on my playlist. Thank you! 🌟
This was a big hit on the radio and jukeboxes in 1969. These two songs are from the Broadway musical “Hair” The song “Hair” was another huge hit and the musical was made into a movie. All about hippies and squares. It also made history for the actors taking off their clothes on stage. Big scandal back then….
"Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In is a medley of two songs written for the 1967 musical Hair by James Rado and Gerome Ragni (lyrics), and Galt MacDermot (music), released as a single by American R&B group the 5th Dimension. The song spent six weeks at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart in the spring of 1969 and was eventually certified platinum in the US by the RIAA."
Welcome back! So glad to see you! It’s hard to come on here when we are going thru life’s stuff, but bringing us together through music helps a great deal! I needed to hear this song today, thank you!
This song is from the rock musical "Hair", which hit Broadway in 1969 (I believe). Other groups had hits from the soundtrack, but only The 5trh Dimension took one to Number One! I love the choreography, the costumes, the singing, the horns, all of it. Great, great voices in that group.
That bassline on the second part. I love both parts so different but completely tied together.
THANK YOU for this Tim. This is "groovy", "outta sight" sixties music at its best. This was one of the first songs that combined rock with Gospel and became a HUGE MEGA HIT for a very very troubled time with the Viet Nam war and everything. Thank you for bringing it back to life❣️
Yes!
❤
I love that you compared 5th Dimension to The Beach Boys. The harmonies are beautiful. One of my fav songs from when I was a little girl.
If you go down the 5th D rabbit hole, you'll notice that their early hits are group harmonies, but the later you get and get to their later hits, they're going to be Marilyn McCoo centric. She has to be on the Mount Rushmore of underrated great voices ever.
I’ve only ever heard of Marilyn McCoo when I watched Solid Gold as a young child. I had no idea she was in 5th Dimension. Thanks for the info!
Best song EVER ☀️♒️✌🏽harmony and understanding❤❤❤❤❤that down beat leading into let the sunshine in? Perfect!!!
I'm just smiling from ear to ear listening to Billy Davis, Jr. taking us home at the end. My mom played this record a lot when I was growing up, and it's always so uplifting to hear.

Marilyn & Billy Davis Jr would be happy to see you jamming & enjoying their music ❤
Amazing documentary!

Such uplifting song. You can feel it in your soul. ❤ They are great good-vibe group! Listen when you're down, or when up...😊
Wish y'all could see my parrot dancing to this song...🤣 I have loved the 5th Dimesion every since I was a little bitty girl. Marilyn McCoo's voice is one of a kind!

Love this group and all of their songs!
Could you plz do "Up Up and Away"? It's such a feel good song and their voices together are beyond compare.
Yassssss, please!! 🎈
I definitely agree with you about Let the Sunshine In. It’s what I need to hear in the lonely times.

Although "Let the Sunshine In" is fine on it's own, it takes on a whole new level when seguing in from "The Flesh Failures".
How could you not just feel happy after hearing this song 💜
Two of the singers, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr went on to have hits of their own. Definitely worth a look. Welcome Back!!
They were husband and wife ❤
@@janinegarnett8026 They ARE husband and wife. 54 years strong.

Forgot about highschool band😅 this song and Smoke on the water were done by every highschool band in Indiana 😅
Whatever happens always keep music in your heart even if it is just for you.
"You are FEELING GOD my brother!!" 🙌🙌🙌🙏🤍✨️(I am 56 and this song is still DIVINE). 🙋♂️✌️
Classic. Love this song! Their harmony is 💯!!

💯🔥Decades since I danced all across my livingroom to this! Closed my eyes and the years disappeared as I sang along!🎤🎼
I have this song on multiple playlists that I listen to at home and in the car. ❤ it so much!
That brought a tear to my eye. I feel that way when I hear certain 80s songs. ❤
This was used in the movie Hair, which also has an incredible song by Cheryl Barnes - Easy To Be Hard. It's so moving. You would LOVE it.
Treat Williams who starred in Hair just passed away recently. He was so dynamic in that film. ❤️
@@wendywoodruff2871, true. He was my first real crush. 💜
My mom had that album and we used to listen to it and act it out all the time. That and Jesus Christ Superstar.
@@alfia6690, your mom sounds fun! I know Godspell better than JCS, but I know Hair frontwards and backwards.
RIP Treat Williams. ❤️
Funkiest bass line!
I LOVE this song!!! I grew up listening to this song. I was born in 72, but this song was played by my family during our family gatherings.
It does this old man's heart good to see you kids react the same way when we heard Aquarius the first time. This was pretty much our anthem. Summer of love. Good times.
Remember when you see 65+ folks, THIS was what we listened to and it helped to make us great.,,and pretty cool.
And me....56
Harmonies! The two songs were always sung together. I don’t think I ever heard them separately.
It's so great to see you enjoying another iconic classic! It is impossible to listen to this and not smile. 🌞
The choir sang this at H.S. graduation. Honest it was the first time the auditorium rocked!
Amazing how these five sound like a whole chorus. This is one of my all time favorite oldies songs. Thanks for reacting to this one :)
Besides from singing like an Angel, Marilyn McCoo is also an Angel of Beauty.

Damn, I'm old, and this is when I was little child. I still know the words.
OMG I love those clothes! Brings back memories of my own yellow bell bottoms! Groovy!

For me personally, music from the 60's through the 80's is the best hands down. 😊❤
You're so cute!
This is music from one of the best plays I ever saw in New York -- "HAIR"

I was in elementary school. We sang it in third grade class. RIP Ms. Elizabeth Eller.🎶
This song is from the famous 60's "hippie" musical Hair. The Beach Boy vibes you got might be because of those 60's harmonies....
