The 5th Dimension group took people to connect with the universe with harmony and understanding with this song as they mentioned all of the planets in our universe, where you get the word University. University was designed not be college but to study the universe. Yes this song was huge for the 70's. Much love and love time traveling with music & memories of 1900-2000.
I have always LOVED everything about this song - from the harmonies, the instrumentation (especially that bass) to the message. The universe continues to connect us Psyche as I honestly just watched this very video yesterday. Wanted to hear a song about peace and love, and this is one of the greats in that regard. Also reminds me of my early youth, when this song was a huge hit. Love Marilyn McCoo and her dancing and dramatic gestures here too. Excellent choice and reaction my friend. Have a great day! 🥰✌️☮️🕊✨
Thank you my dear Red. Its 01.28am and I git up for a few minutes now going g back to 🛌. See you the other side tomorrow for catch up. Nite nite 😴 🤗🙋🏽♀️🙏🏽
I shouldn't have watched this. Now I'm going to be crushing on Marilyn McCoo for another month or two. Really good group; don't have groups like this today...they don't have a lot of what we listened to in the 70's, 80's, and 90's today. Oh well. As I was saying, good group, but what you don't know because you're a "youngster!!!" is how McCoo branched off and did singles on her own because of her gorgeous, crystal-clear voice. Loved her singing. And she was and is beautiful. :)

THIS IS THE DAWNING OF THE AGE OF AQUARIUS- ~ Opening hook of the medley "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine" performed by the 5TH DIMENSION, merged two songs from the controversial, and in turn groundbreaking Broadway smash, "HAIR". Synchronicity and Serendipity joined forces when a wallet lost was returned to one of the groups members while performing in New York by Hair's producer, Michael Butler and mutual show invitations ensued. Butler, son of the wealthy Co-founder of the Village of Oak Brook, Illinois, the Midwest's version of Beverly Hills, was thus birth-righted an "All Access Social Pass" to the American Royalty of the times, most notably including JFK, whom as a Senator he advised on Middle East and Indian matters. During a failed run for the Illinois Senate in 1967, he developed an anti-Vietnam War focus, and after seeing the original limited run production and being blown away, acquired the rights, reworked the show (adding the infamous nude scene) and from its re-opening in April 1968 ; It ran for 1,742 performances. THE 5TH DIMENSION, "AQUARIUS/ LET THE SUNSHINE IN". With groovy sounds of this fantastic 5TH DIMENSION. From the Play / Movie "HAIR".. more "STONED COLD PICNIC".
Aquarius is the opening song in Hair, an anti-Vietnam war musical with a serious message under its unrelenting references to sex and drugs. It tells the story of Claude who has just been drafted and has to decide how he will respond. He does go to Vietnam and is killed. Let the Sunshine is the chorus of the closing number, the Flesh Failures. In most of the productions I’ve seen, the cast slowly separates to reveal Claude’s casket, draped with a flag. It’s a very poignant moment. Traditionally the audience is invited to come up and dance with the cast as Let the Sunshine plays out. In the movie version, Claude’s friend Berger goes to Vietnam in Claude’s place. The composers were not happy with that choice.
The Age of Aquarius is an Age when peace will finally reign across the whole world. An 'Age' when humans will eventually tire of war and look for more peaceful ways to solve their problems. This 'Age' is not felt yet. We have moved from the 'Age of Pisces' into the 'Age of Aquarius', but its effects will not be felt for many years yet. This is because the world is still caught in darkness. When the effects of the Age of Aquarius are eventually felt...that is when we will let the sunshine in.
Classic song and a stellar bass line by the late Joe Osborn...RIP
