- New Zealand SAS First Among Equals Documentary.
Part 2 • New Zealand SAS - Firs...
Ive split the full documentary into 2 videos.
Great quality also. Enjoy. Inside the NZ SAS: First Among Equals is a world first - an exclusive documentary series about the inner workings of this country's most famous fighting elite, the top "1 percenters" of the New Zealand Defense Force - better known as the NZ SAS. For 3 years, award-winning filmmakers Desert Road enjoyed unprecedented and unparalleled access to this world-renowned but never-before-seen Special Force. During this time, Desert Road's cameras followed the unit as they selected a new intake of troopers and, over many gruelling months, moulded these raw soldiers into highly-skilled troopers of NZ SAS calibre, ready to deploy overseas - and participate in the Global War on Terror - at a moment's notice. - Розваги
"SAS stands for Saturday's And Sunday's because we worked every damn weekend."
Lots of respect for these outstanding men.
Hmmm. We used to call the terries SAS, as they only work Saturdays and Sundays.
SEAL's stands for Sleep, Eat And Lift because that is all they do - Jocko Willink.
"I would rather have no-one pass the selection, than lower the standards"
But not if you are germany.
The most important quote in the history of the forces
as an Australian I agree mate
This is the way
As a South African i have the greatest respect for the physical and mental toughness of the Kiwis. They are a breed apart. Play rugby against them and you will get an inkling of the warrior spirit of this great nation!

Some hardcore troops, and are part of the best of the best, as an US Army vet I'd fight along side our NZ brothers any day of the week and twice on Sundays, so to them I say thank you for doing what you do, much love and respect from the U.S.
My brother in law was in the NZ SAS. He never talked about it. I never knew until I met an Australian who laughed when I described him as an artilleryman. He put his life on the line for freedom and fellowship. I respect him and what he did. Thankyou.

Maybe shouldn’t go around telling people that mark it can get people into trouble and killed in the NZSAS maybe not Australia because there standards are not as high but in NZSAS all identity’s are secret. Shearing this information could be illegal. just a heads up.

I joined with your cousin in 2008, and your dad was there at march out. He kindly spoke with my family and i. Much respect.🙏
Commonwealth special forces, proven worthy in combat, comparable to none. Glad to have you with us New Zealand. Huge respect from Britain.
+Vulcan GBR mad, bad and dangerous to know
Thanks
Vulcan They are not Commonwealth special forces. This is the NZSAS, not the SASR, which is from the Commonwealth of Australia.
NZSAS = New Zealand Special Air Service = New Zealand = a commonwealth country, same with the SASR. Australia and New Zealand are commonwealth nations therefore they are commonwealth special forces.SugarTomAppleRoger
Vulcan. The Commonwealth is the Commonwealth of Australia. New Zealand was invited to join, but declined. The Commonwealth has nothing to do with England.
Much respect to you Fish. you're 1 tough son of a gun. ran through a swamp with a broken leg and still beat everyone. It was a blessing to have baptised you in the lord brother. Much respect to all NZSAS. And all Specops people.
My uncle joined the US marines right after Pearl Harbor, he was 14 years old. He served with Carlson's Raiders in the Solomon Islands. My dad was a lieutenant commander in the US navy who also served in the Solomon Islands. He said he'd look out his tent on a night of pouring rain and feel bad for the marines out in their foxholes, until sunrise when the New Zealanders came in from an all night patrol. Dad said that the Japanese feared only one thing, New Zealanders.
Must be that haka they heard in the night probably thought they were demon cannibal warriors
and they werent wrong to be fearful!!

The toughest special forces training I have ever seen. That's why the NZSAS is so good
My best friend growing up, his father was ex SAS in the early 60s. Borneo and Malay. Taking out communication and bridgess. One story that stays with me, one of his squad fell prey to a punji trap....they carried him for 4 days in the jungle until extraction. Went straight through his butt cheek, in and out. Thier dawn parade was not until early 2000s. 40 years after the fact. These fearless MEN, we owe our societys too. Thank you.
This video, WOW. GOD knows how much we Americans admire and respect America's elite warrior, our NAVY SEALS. Because few of us really know what is required to become a recognized NAVY SEAL we cannot say if they're on par with the NZSAS, but one thing we do know and can say is these men of many countrys elite warrior teams are the toughest, smartest men in their military. This video, WOW!
I don't have an opinion on the SEALs in particular but I have heard a lot of people dissing them lately for being so public. What happened to the silent warriors and quiet professionals? Don't get me wrong I think they're world-class warriors at any rate. Just something I've been hearing a lot of scuttlebutt about the last few years.
One of the bonuses NZ has is the high standard of troops we train. Due to limited funds we have developed a focus on multi-tasking, multi-skilled, troops. Pretty much all NZ troops can drive trucks, tanks, fire heavy weapons, I could go on. Basically, they can do a tonne of other stuff other larger armies use specialist units for. So by the time it comes to SAS selection you already have a pretty solid core of smart, efficient, independent soldiers.
SMC01ful
yeah but can they build a tenk outa just a chully bun n 2 pairs ov jandals?
Smco01ful totally agree with you there bro nz sas can fight shoot drive any vehicle and fly helicopters and planes bomb specialist cordinate any attacks city plain fields snow dessert they are the universal soldier's
Yes the motto when I was in the army is "Soldier first" it doesn't matter what corps you belong to you still have to maintain your basic soldiery skills, shooting, artillery, heavy weapons etc...

David Sterling invented the SAS in world War Two and God bless him and to all the special forces all over the world
Joined the NZ Army in 1985 after Basic and Corp training talked to a couple mates who were gonna try and get into the SAS tried to convince me but I was happy serving my country and getting through Corp training #Hardcore
The New Zealand Special Air Service ( NZSAS) Are Indeed, " The First Among Equals." They Have My Deepest Respect. 🇺🇸 ♥️s 🇳🇿.
I'm in the special forces, the special pizza army forces, been on dough detail for years. I can confirm that carrying 20 kg bags on each hand you won't get far. I used to have to carry three 20kg bags of pizza flour each morning, the journey was about 30 metres each time. But i can tell you just those few footsteps carrying that much is a strain right away.

My word........never have I seen anything quite so tough. All the lads are true power houses. I couldn't lace their boots. Gentlemen, I salute you all.
Nothing but respect from a yank Ranger Battalion veteran here. Airborne, Air Assault, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge. Worked alongside the Aussies(1st Squadron SASR) in Iraq..... WHO DARES WINS!!!!!
Great job, thanks for your awesome words.

At the end of the day all special forces from around the world are brilliant. Respect love the Kiwi's from Australia
Anyone interested in special forces stuff should read about South African 32 battalion and Recces. Rhodesian SAS and Selous Scouts. They did insane things and wrecked havoc on their enemies like no other.
Just pure respect and salute to all these hardworking individuals who are willing and determined to go an extra mile in the quest for excellence. Each NZSAS soldier is one man army, capable of tackling the hostile situations professionally and successfully.
Thank God for men like this.
My Koro (Granddad) was in the SAS during the Vietnam war period. He fought in Vietnam as SAS.
+Anton Nzl he must of been 1 of the shoot and scooters
I'm not sure what his role was. All I know is he fought in Vietnam in the SAS. I've asked him before about Vietnam but he NEVER gives me anything.
Anton Nzl he's probably bull shitting

Nah don’t think so. I’ve worked both for CIA and SAS and I share this with everyone. All missions etc.
So proud of these men. Keep pushing beyond what most can tolerate.
Mate, these blokes are tough as nails! Far out! Motivational to watch and know they do really exist!
When I served in the NZ Army, I never even thought about joining the SAS. These boys had a hell of a lot more than I had to offer. Every member of the SAS has my ultimate respect.
Massive respect to all special forces. These guys are a special breed.
My mothers partner was in the NZ SAS for many years from Vietnam onward till he became one of the training instructors in his later years. He very rarely tells stories about his time in the force but I vividly remember him telling me about the joint training they did with the Navy Seals. He said a lot of them were overly muscular and would complain when they didn't get enough protein in at scheduled hours which they found funny. Basically they thought they were a bit soft. He did however say they completely blew the SAS out of the water when it came to swimming. They were amazing at it.
The Scatman literally have seals in there name you donut
The Scatman I had a chance to work with some retired navy seals. The older guys were much less into physical strength. But you get quite a mix with 3000+ members. Some were very intelligent and had PhDs. I did meet a few muscle jockeys but what you expect. Regardless they are each highly trained and scary motherfuckers.
you'd hope so.....haha.... its look s like our NZ SAS are trained not as specialists but all rounders, jack of all trades...I guess every eilte force has a different theme or "personality"
Why don't you just say "my dad/dad in law" rather than "my mother's partner".

Given the size and population of New Zealand they must be extremely proud of their armed forces for achieving the standards they do, their selection “pool” isn’t exactly overwhelming. The NZSAS must be hugely elite, and rightly so, and like so many other special forces, again rightly, don’t allow prying eyes in. Respect to every man and women who serve in the allied nations military. Thanks for sharing this excellent and informative video. One thing I don’t understand is the man who turned up without having the physical condition to even pass the initial run, I don’t remember them mentioning the distance or time limit, but being able to run is a basic requirement for any person in any military, and for special forces the standard would be so much higher, something any volunteer would know, so there is no excuse for not being able to complete such a basic test, for failing they only have themselves to blame, and probably wasn’t committed enough to pass. In all my years of service I never entertained the idea of volunteering for SF, and watching this and other selection videos I am glad I didn’t.
most infantry units in NZ are equal at least to green beret, we are the best jungle ninjas in the world
I tried and made it till the end, only to be told “ you’re good but not good enough”

Out of all the SOF units I've worked with from other countries, NZSAS is among the top, along with ALL of those from Britain (From Pathfinder.to SAS), Australia,Norway,Belgium,Canada, and Denmark. Others that were top of the top were Philippines, and the best of all Asian countries, South Korea. I was attached to S. Korean SOF and they are very, very good.
Most are, tho you get a few that are either over-hyped (Pakistan, Russia) or "SOF" in name only...they want the name, but dont want to put the training and time into coming on line to that level.
Honestly surprised about Russia, if it's true.
@@thrillho4849 have you seen their efforts in Ukraine? Russia SF or not is still employing the old tactic of just keep throwing bodies on the front line.
@craig you find South Korean SOF to be the best because you didn't work with Indian special force (PARA SF , MARCOS, GARUD ) IF you had , I am pretty sure your thought will change about being the elite . Indian special forces are the best in world

He was discharged from the military due to injury a few years earlier. Even NZs standard soldiers proved themselves in battle.Charles Upham is the only soldier ever to win 2 VCs in one war and survive.German general Erwin Rommel is quoted in saying,Give me a battalion of Maoris, ill conquer the world and another German general who I can't remember his name is also quoted in saying,The NZ soldiers are tough, formidable and resilient and must be defeated to the last man or they will beat you.NZ have that fighting spirit in war and peace and this becomes obvious in the sports arena. If population is taken into account NZ is probably the best sporting nation in the world.Currently NZ hold 8 world cups in team sports alone and that's just the ones I'm aware of.They have the most dominant sports team in history from any country, the All Blacks who have a winning ratio around 80% from 1905-2018.They are also ranked 2 in league,2 in netball,4 in hockey,in the top 5 of all forms of cricket and have won the league and netball world cups before and were in the cricket world cup final in 2015.They finished 4th not long ago at the basketball world champs. They dominate watersports.Lydia Ko dominated golf but has gone off the boil the last couple of years. They finished 3rd at the Rio Olympics on a per capita basis and athletes like Valerie Adams,Lisa Carrington,Hamish Carter and others are untouchable in their chosen sports.Heavyweight boxers David Tua and Joseph Parker both made it to the world heavyweight title fight but unfortunately lost but only on points. These are only some examples of NZs sporting achievements and most of them are current and all from a population of just 4-5 million.NZ formidable in war and peace.

of Māori, I would have taken the canal in a week. If I'd had three, I'd
have taken Baghdad."
@M. J. Shiiit I have heard this quote quote many times over the years but now that I seriously researched it, it seems to be an ANZAC myth. Tho he does mention how impressed he was by anzac forces it seems this quote is an urban myth.
Why do excellent documentaries like this always attract simpletons with the intellectual capacity of five year olds? There have been special forces around for centuries, through out history and from many different cultures. The SAS are only but one of many modern units that developed out of modern war fear. We can not even hope to compare the various special forces units that exist today, they all have specific roles and objectives, which is the best is open interpretation. Ask any school boy in any country and they will tell you there’s is the best.
Respect 1NZSAS.
not just that, every generation of special forces learns from the past. The first ever SAS troops learnt from operational requirements of the war, and then next generation learnt from the first's failures, and so on and so on.
I thought my father a riverboat chief in Vietnam 1970 was a badass, I stand corrected. Respect.

This is beyond hard and i love it.
One if the worlds best SF.. Currently placed bottom joint 3rd. Still, massive props to these fellas.
Based on what, who decides who's the best, what qualifies them to, and what are they basing it on. It's pretty pointless ranking them. The majority of them are as good as each other, especially the NATO ones due to the amount of joint training and operations that go on.
@trident1314 America always thinks they’re the best, but according to operational success (the only metric that really matters) it’s the British, Australian and New Zealand SAS that are at the top.
My grandad was in LRDG with the sas in the North Africa campaign ww2 these with the sas did some serious damage
biohazardmanc1 So was an uncle of mine.
Respect to your grandad, takes a really tough person to serve in special forces, not just physically tough but mentally as well.
One piece of information, the LRDG was the forerunner of the SAS, many of the men who were in the original SAS were handpicked by Lt D Sterling (the original commander of the SAS, whose initiative it was to form the SAS) from the LRDG, many of whom were from the Southern Hemisphere allies, Australia and New Zealand. To go from one special force to another, even tougher, unit takes fantastic guts and bravery. Respect.

Not surprise on this amazing level on this hard trainer for will be N.Z SAS , because in New Zeland many many guys played Rugby'. Rugby in Nuova Zelanda is the national sport ,and for play rugby you necessity on strengh, power, velocity, agility, and more stamina and hard mentality, the rugby is a more complete Sport in the World....and when in your Nation the 90% on the guys have this know-how and when you have the chance to choice in this amazing group....the result is this:one on the best Special Force team on the World, probably the best for level on preparation physical and training...
I like the ex SAS members who are all humble and they are just normal guys who have done selection and let you know the truth that selection for the NZSAS sucks but still carry on
So your saying that NZSAS Sucks?
No, the selection sucks- meaning that it's extremely difficult.
fucking idiot learn to read
Dr XAXAX Sorry skrub
Josh Walker, sorry but, yes, you should apologise, the grammar and punctuation might be slightly wrong but the sentiment is quite apparent. Using the word “sucks” in this context means that it was tough, and that even though it did suck you suck it up and get on with it, because that is what you have to do to achieve what you want.
I hired an older Kiwi to my little organisation. Rarely have I met a man as honest and decent and ingenious as him. As a young accountant working for Shell Oil he was assigned to Liberia. As an old rugger he formed a rag tag rugby team that flew around parts of Africa in a Cessna. His sense of adventure only surpassed by his gentleman ship. Thank you New Zealand for Perry Kennan.

Everyone has a breaking point ,except SF have a mental toughness different to most
Wish we were still as resolute about our military's physical training standards here in the USA
Unless you served or do now how can you give a proper critique? Marine Basic Training alone is still tough. I went through US Army Basic and Infantry School at Ft Benning in '83 and, that was no walk in the park. In today's Army Basic, Drill Sgts are handcuffed, when it comes to treatment of Recruits....far more than when we went through it. Too PC....don't want to hurt someone's feelings. We were tore down, in order to be built up as a soldier. You may be correct.
