upgrade. it seems like you don't need to ctrt+Alt+F2 and all the rest but u log-in and on the right bottom menu you can see "install" click and after 15 min is done!
I have this same laptop, upgraded the ram from 2gb to 3gb (max the computer will support), and upgraded the cpu to Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 2.4GHZ (max the computer will support), and swapped the HDD to an SSD, and it is running Windows 10 32 bit (haven’t tried 64 bit) no lag, issues, or anything i have run into, been over a year now.
this method allows you to select which hdd to install os on. Specially important when your pc has more than 1 hdd, because selecting the install button will install on main hdd.
I install ChromeOS and I have a major problem. It can connect to wifi and ethernet but no internet connection. I used diagnostic and error said it because of firewall. I've done all the troubleshooting and still not working.
Until it supports Android apps fully I would suggest just going with any Linux distro. You'll get more out of it, a lot more bang for the buck that's easier to install.

No no no this is not what you should do! Instead install crouton. Whenever you open the terminal and type shell in the chrome browser you can install crouton and always boot linux! When you log out or shut down linux it switches back to chrome os!

As above: Possibly the software has changed since the original date of this post, but yes, you can go directly to the install. When you get to the first, non-changing screen (4:10 on this video), just click on the clock at the lower right hand corner of the screen. From there, you can just install the OS. Don't forget: this procedure completely destroys anything on the laptop's drive, so if you have anything on it you want to keep, transfer it to removable media first.

Once you reboot from the usb flash drive and cloudready is open go to the menu on the lower right corner and there is a tab for installation of the chrome os, this will save you time and errors and will wipe out windows os. Cloudready has done this to simplify the process and you will enjoy again your old computer. This could be a good choice for old people that don't know how to use computers or don't use windows programs at all, they only use the web browser to go to face book, youtube, etc, etc.

I did this on an old laptop, then decided to try to go back to windows. However now I cannot get the PC to boot from the USB prepared using the Microsoft site. When trying to boot from the USB only result is error message "Missing OS". 😡
Hindsight is 20/20, but you should have tested the Recovery Drive FIRST. Something must have gone wrong in its creation: bad sectors on the drive, problem during the download, drive extracted while still writing to it, etc. Unless you have another backup, possibly a recent image, or someone can find a better solution, you will have to reinstall Windows, from scratch
Why? The first thing I did when I had a Chromebook was to install Linux on it. I wouldn't touch Chrome OS with a ten foot pole. The "optional" provision of a phone number, declining to do so results in your machine refusing to sign you in until you decide of your own free will to give them your number was just low.
Immortal SoFar ... I totally agree. I Have posted comments and replies recommending Mint Xfce... Which Runs great on old machines that came with XP. Install might not be quite as straight forward as in this video, for example win users probably need Rufus to make boot USB from OS ISO, but plenty of info out there on the interwebs on "how to"

Yes you can. But you don't want a usb stick plugged into your laptop for ever. Just take some time and follow few simple steps and will get the os installed onto your laptop.

The advantages are that you don't have to worry about breaking a flash drive (and possibly the PC port) when moving the laptop around, and the card is almost totally within the body of the laptop, therefore physically protected much more subtle.

I have downloaded the CloudReady OS and inserted it into my HP Compaq Laptop (looks exactly the same as your demo medel) but the Cloudready OS doesn't open even though I select the USB EFI and make it the First Boot. Is there anything else that I can do to have the CloudReady OS System to load. I have used the USB on other Laptops and they can all load the CloudReady System.

As above: Neverware/CloudReady has a link to a list of laptops that this procedure is known to work with, but it is not comprehensive, and they say you can probably use any Intel-based PC, so try it.
You shouldn't need all the commandline rubbish to permanently install. When I used my USB runner I got the option to install (if I liked it enough) onto the hard drive, I think in the info panel on the right. I clicked the option, clicked Yes, and Chrome OS was installed on the hard drive... USB no longer needed. But be warned, doing this will wipe out the original OS.

You can use it to copy the OS to a target PC, in which case you will destroy anything on that PC (OS, files, applications). You can also use the flash drive as your boot drive and OS, and preserve the hard drive completely: just remove the flash drive when you wish to use the OS loaded on the boot disc, and reattach it when you want to use Chrome.

@Shadan you need a working OS linux/windows in order to boot in chromeOS. Or make a bootable usb in another computer and plugged it on your laptop/pc

Try adding 2 factor authentication or change your password on your phone, or just try a different day. That worked for me

Won't work on my Laptop, It has a very buggy Bios the Secure boot won't stay off it's running Zorin OS Pro with the secure boot configured right now.
