First time I tried this drink was 2003 while working nights on Railroad. There was a food truck near by and it was winter. I bought some tacos and got talked into trying this thing called Champurrado. Damn... It was good! I told my Mexican neighbor about it and she laughed that I had never experienced this. She went home and made me a pot full promising to teach me how to make it. After all these years I finally get to make my own because of You. Thank you from the bottom of my heart 💖. Please stay safe 😷 from El Paso Texas .🤠

This is so interesting. On Guam, which was under Spanish rule for 400 years, we have a Chamorro dish called champulado, which is chocolate rice, or basically rice cooked in what you are making, minus the spices.

The atole is good. You should try the champurrado too. Champurrado is made with roasted corn. Not milk or chocolate needed.

You will need roasted corn. Blended to make flower or pinole. Dissolve the pinole in cold water and added to boiling water with piloncillo. Continue moving until think. No milk or chocolate needed.

If you would like a thickener similar to the manseca you can put 2 tspn's of arrowroot powder in the milk prior to adding to the pot . Arrowroot thickens as it cools also not reverse like cornstarch.

Don’t forget to enjoy with Mexican Tamales ! Perfect traditional pairing 👍
By far, the best easy small quantity recipe. I use my small 2.5 quart crockpot and it fits perfect plus works for small families. Instead of stovetop, just follow exactly hut use crockpot to keep warm all day. To speed things up, I will microwave the inner pot with the recipe ingredients for a few minutes so t have a head start in the crockpot. Enjoy!

I made this recipe this morning and it was divine!!! I like that this is a smaller recipe, as the other ones I found served loads of people. The only thing I tweaked was I toasted the maseca prior to mixing it with water and I needed more hot water to blend in the maseca. Maybe because I toasted it but clumping was a problem so I used a fine strainer and poured the masa mixture through it into the pot. The result was a very silky and smooth consistency with a slight nutty flavor. Will continue making this recipe! Thank you for another amazing recipe! Love you and your channel- thank you!!!!!! PS- I am trying to find a good recipe for a warm, sweet and creamy corn drink- I’m thinking it is called Atole con maiz- anyone know of a good recipe?
