All of these Sherlock Holmes episodes with Nigel Bruce and Basil Rathbone have been spectacular... I think that Nigel Bruce was deeply important to the Basil Rathbone character.... He acted as a foil for the character Sherlock Holmes.... This is when acting was acting.... if you will notice, nothing scenery wise was used in this episode.... what you saw... a small ships cabin, a small lounge, a small shot of the engine room..... it was all dependent on great acting....and a good story line....
I have been binge watching the Holmes and Watson episodes for years. They never cease to entertain me. Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce are perfectly cast and their portrayals are the best interpretations of these classic characters. Other actors have tried, but there are none better. The films are atmospheric and both dramatic and often humorous. Whenever I am stuck for something to watch I can always count on these films. The best of the best.❤
Nigel Bruce was a very fine actor..... yes.... it was his real voice..... most good actors could sing, dance, act and were expected to be proficient in all.... the actors of this genre were very universal... the actors of today.... not so much....
*One of the actors in this Sherlock Holmes movie went on to guest star in the original Star Trek episode, "Errand of Mercy". In "Pursuit To Algiers", he played the taller of the two archeologists.*
Sherlock Holmes and Charlie Chan and miss marple and Poirot and midsomer murders and miss marple and murder she wrote are my favorite characters to watch
Grew up with that wallpaper (meeting with the men at the beginning taking on the case) in our family home. Absolutely taken back to times full of wonder 😌
There are about ~ 6 to 8 cast members which return time and again - one episode to the next. I think I actually prefer this to hiring everyone anew each time.
Nice. Thank you for uploading these. This is the 2 nd one along with the spuder woman that I had never seen. I have watched seven or so over the decades and thought that was all there were
That was my favorite movie of these two. That was just wonderful! Damn there is nothing like this now. Mostly crap. I got rid of my TV in 2010. I think I am going to start a library of Britch Mysteries starting with Sherlock Holmes. THE BEST!!
I just noticed, after seeing this, for probably the 50th time, the lighted sign, that served as either the restaurant sign, or ad, which is identical to the old Arthur Treacher's fish and Chips lanterns that hung at each restaurant's door, here in America.
Love the ambience and music. Good fun. ^^^^spoiler alert^^^^ Just wondering why the jewel smugglers didn't sew the emeralds into the spine/lining of the case. Had to figure singer would find and possibly alert authorities....? Weird. Also why the elaborate travel arrangements. Couldn't they have taken king to Ravinia on a British or American destroyer??? Oh well! Good fun nonetheless.
I feel like they ended this too abruptly. They never explain who the man pretending to be Nicholas was the whole time, and it seemed to hint that a relationship was forming with him and Shiela. It just seems like it would have been interesting to have had one more scene wrapping things up. Like the fake Nicholas was a Rovinan army officer, and perhaps Shiela decided to go back with him rather than Brooklyn. But I guess secondary characters don't get much in terms of plot.
There were 14 of Rathbone and Bruce in Sherlock Holmes movies.. There is one missng here called the advertures of Sherlock Holmes.. I think Moriarty was in it.. Can you get that one?
Why do they keep calling an automatic pistol a revolver? Wouldn't audiences of the time know the difference? Just a thought - I love these films again and again. Like a revolver.
@@markszawlowski867 It's been a long British habit, it is not a revolver anymore, but by habit, it's a colloquially a revolver. A flashlight, isn't in reality a torch, but they call it a torch out of habit.
10:43 all these movies are fantastic but this was definitely the low point haha. Just bad audio editing, rear projection, audio dubbing... but really it's the tires squealing and three men standing in the road 😂 aside from that, this series is awesome.
The reason these mistakes are left in the film is they are "B" movies. These "B" movies are made with a tiny budget even though its made by a movie studio. Universal studio was one of many studios in town that made their movies as fast as possible with little or no budget and had no time to re-edit or re-shoot a scene.
@@richardbartolo2890 I never insinuated that scene was a mistake. Compared to the entire series, it was definitely like you suggest, filmed very quickly.
For plot, intrigue and production value, there was nothing better than these old movies. Classics!
Luv these old classic Sherlock Holmes series....they are the best....!!!!
Cheers....!!!!
It's a real movie! No one is reading a story. Thank you. 🎉
I love a mystery on board an ocean liner. And this is a good one!
Thank you very much Mark Farmer for uploading this and the other Sherlock and Watson movies, I so appreciate it!
Love these old movies 🎥 💕

That is so true every word of it!!
Doctor Watson was NEVER that dumb.
As always enjoy Holmes and Watson at their best. Loved Watson's singing voice and his humor as always. Thanks for sharing.
Wish there had been many more episodes of these movies made with Rathbone and Bruce. Watched this set of 14 twice now! Thanks for sharing!
Which film is now removed?
@@oneandatwo The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
Yeah, I haven't been able to find Adventures of sherlock holmes, and can't even remember what it's about! Hope someone uploads it again.
@@EmpyreanLightASMR It is available on UTube for free

One of my fav Holmes movies. Just makes me want fish and chips.🙄
What a great episode, gonna binge watch them all now. Thank you uploader 😊💯
Ive seen this film a few times ...all of them bring me joy.!
Wow - Nigel Bruce (if that was really he) had a beautiful singing voice! Enjoy these old Sherlock Holmes flicks immensely!

12:32 "...to make yourself as conspicuous as possible!" Piece a cake for Watson.
Yeah, I chuckled!
Thanks, Mark F. Nice playlists for Holmes and Chan. This is one of the best Rathbone/Bruce flicks, imho. Nicely done, all around.
Me three.
“Elementary my dear Watson,I’m very pleasant”😉🤓

Youngsters are missing more and more as time goes by! So sad! I love old movies! ❤❤❤
Dr Watson's 15 sec's of fame.......loved it.
Thanks for having the beginning credits, many people are starting to leave them out on films and I feel I'm missing something.
I would like to see the Sherlock Holmes television series which has the lovely music by Patrick Gowers again. That was very good. All the best.
Watson 'singing' was priceless!
The irony of Holmes advising Watson to never consider becoming an actor was not lost on me. Nigel Bruce was afterall a very fine actor, indeed.
The man who plays "Mirko" must watch Peter Lorre. SEE Mirko's face in the porthole after throwing the knife in to his cohorts. Creepy.
The actor who plays Mirko also was in the Creeper. A Universal studios movie, Along with Rondo Hatton aka The Creeper.

Yes I agree.
Really great acting in this episode and we got to hear Nigel Bruce sing!

The late professor Moriarity was a virtuoso on the Bassoon! Lol
Sir Arthur--GENIUS!!
TY MUCH 🎉 FROM KANSAS USA 😊
"A woman on board carries a revolver." As a military man Dr. Watson would have known it was a semi-automatic, not a revolver.
In that era, any handgun was frequently called a revolver. I picked on that misinformation too.
I think back then and in England a revolver means a handgun. ..
That was my favorite movie of these two. That was just wonderful! Damn there is nothing like this now. Mostly crap. I got rid of my TV in 2010. I think I am going to start a library of Britch Mysteries starting with Sherlock Holmes. THE BEST!!
Thanks Mark Farmer I have never seen this and "Faces Death"
for a hilarious take off on the Holmes movies, see The Firesign Theatre, --the,adventures of Hemlock Stones ans the Giant Rat of Sumatra
Does anybody know the songs "Sheila" sings?
I would like to know also...
Wonderful stuff.

Everyone always asking how do you do but no one ever answers.
Thanks because they hear it so often. 😆
Love Sherlock Holmes.❤

THESE ARE TOO EASY TO SOLVE, just keep crossing off any person Watson names as a possible suspect and the killer will be in those left

For the same reason they call a flashlight 🔦 a torch.
