That's what Basil Rathbone said in his biography; that Henry Daniel's was the most effective Moriarty I liked Lionel Atwill as Moriarty in The Secret Weapon
At 58:01 she tells him the sedative is "Cannabis Japonica". That's Japanese Marijuana extract. It was legal in Japan before WW2. Cannabis Indica extract was used in prescription drugs here in the USA before 1937. Marijuana THC extract was available in the USA in tincture form in the 1800's. Used properly as medicine, small doses of Marijuana THC were helpful. When people started to misuse it, then they made it illegal.
Back when England was English through and through. ....sane and safe times for its citizens. Much better times. Wish I could travel back in time and stay there.
Basil Rathbone one the best Sherlock Holmes. Nigel Bruce the total opposite of Dr Watson depicted in the books. Saying that he was a very entertaining Watson. Looks good in colour. Should colorise more of these movies, around 80 years old and IMO they have stood the test of time.
I love Nigel Bruce. Hes inthe only Hitchcock film to win an Oscar for Hitchcock - Rebecca Hes also in Suspicion which won the best actress Oscar for Joan Fontaine
What would cinema be without such talented artists, so many duo's , Laurel & Hardy , Abbott & Costello, Stooges, Marx Brothers, the list is endless. Y.U.🙏
For anyone not sure of this really being possible: they mentioned driving and the repetitive white line of the highway markers; going by in consecutive time also having hypnotics effect on drivers of cars; know as white line fever. The music played on the radio while driving, and the commercials and comments from the radio speakers to buy a product or consider a viewpoint: all play a roll when you drive a car.
What is interesting in old movies is how they depict change in social thinking. At the beggining we see a meeting of senior police officers. It's easy to notice that all those are men easily over 50 yo, even older. Nowadays this scene, first, would include some female, probably looking like Angelina Jolie or some Baywatch stars, in their twenties, men would be 30yo at best, the commisioner in charge maybe soon to reach 40yo, young Brad Pitt style :))
Well obviously they wouldn’t think people could colorise their black and white movies , I assume the lady in green is the woman at 58:00 I also believe the colorisation might not be the most accurate. Everything has rather a sepia colour washed over. But it could also be a 2nd meaning, as Cannabis Japonica is Japan's deeply-rooted ties with the cannabis plant, it does have a role in creating unique and beautiful ‘outfits’ or rather green kimonos.
I remember watching these movies with my dear departed step-father. Thank you for taking me back to a more innocent time.
I can tell you....the middle 40s was not a good time. Greetings from Germany.

I really liked this version of Holmes. He is not eccentric, he is just a very clever human being :)
And Henry Daniell, was the best Moriarty. He was so cold blooded & creepy looking.
In this version Dr. Watson makes up for any want of stupidity .
Watson is a lovely character. Loyal, honest, proper and brave. His simplicity becomes him.
I don't really care for the way Watson is portrayed as bit of a dimwitted fellow.

God Bless all of you in Dictator - run Venezuela. May the Lord be with you forever and ever.
Much as I do enjoy these, if you really want to see a very accurate Holmes straight from the novels Jeremy Brett in The adventures of Sherlock Holmes 1984 series are stunning!!
Basil Rathbone has always been the personification of Holmes , in my eyes anyway .
Yes , if the real Holmes had a meathead Dr. Watson to help him .
Indubitabley. There is no other.
YOUR eyes are SPOT - ON.😊

CLASSIC FILM!
Nice job of coloring this I'd like to see all of these classics colorized.
@giarc888 Happy to tell you that if you check out the description boxes of films you want to watch, you will see if it is available in B&W and/or color. The link will also be in the description box. Hope you enjoy! Cheers!
NO!!!!
Awesome classic Sherlock Holmes movie! My gosh, the camera loved Hillary Brooke!
I think that Henry Daniell should’ve played Moriarity more often. He was the best.
Isn't it CBD cream? That's what I use.
The subtitles are mental but I love Sherlock Holmes
Back when England was English through and through. ....sane and safe times for its citizens. Much better times. Wish I could travel back in time and stay there.
Basil Rathbone one the best Sherlock Holmes. Nigel Bruce the total opposite of Dr Watson depicted in the books. Saying that he was a very entertaining Watson.
Looks good in colour. Should colorise more of these movies, around 80 years old and IMO they have stood the test of time.
I agree w your correct opinion.

33:44 I love this part 😂 Both Basil Rathbone and Henry Daniell are brilliant 👌✨❤️
Great Scott! Absolutely spiffing!
i knew the actor Colin Hunter who play the constable. he was a delightful gentleman.
This is an amazing film. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
what a wonderful film.. thank you!
🙂 War für mich ein netten Filmabend. Danke
I love Nigel Bruce. Hes inthe only Hitchcock film to win an Oscar for Hitchcock - Rebecca Hes also in Suspicion which won the best actress Oscar for Joan Fontaine
Love these Sherlock Holmes movies. Thank you so much.
Thank you
Hey, someone forgot to tell the guy doing the color that Hilary was supposed to be wearing GREEN.
Its now part of the unsolved mystery...😂😂😂
Do you know, I noticed that too, but I forgot 0:37 that this is a colorized movie. I just thought that maybe address they did or something. Hot stuff.
I Just thought that her dress faded or something. Hot stuff
Yeah, but she looked just fine in black!
They also used completely different words on the captions!! Weird!!l
Wow! I’m only half way through the movie ! What are some other great Sherlock movies 🍿?!
I love the fact that I can choose the un-original Closed Caption, that does not match the audio!!!
What would cinema be without such talented artists, so many duo's , Laurel & Hardy , Abbott & Costello, Stooges, Marx Brothers, the list is endless. Y.U.🙏
Without them we have today's woke diversity garbage with black Vikings and English nobles from the 16th century and so on...
the picture quality is amazing.
Siete fantastici. Grazie mille! ✌🏻
I always have to watch these over and over because I forget the ending or how they get there
For anyone not sure of this really being possible: they mentioned driving and the repetitive white line of the highway markers; going by in consecutive time also having hypnotics effect on drivers of cars; know as white line fever.
The music played on the radio while driving, and the commercials and comments from the radio speakers to buy a product or consider a viewpoint: all play a roll when you drive a car.
Thank you!! 😎👍 Cheers - Luther
Türkçe altyazı için teşekkür ediyorum 💚💚
What is interesting in old movies is how they depict change in social thinking. At the beggining we see a meeting of senior police officers. It's easy to notice that all those are men easily over 50 yo, even older. Nowadays this scene, first, would include some female, probably looking like Angelina Jolie or some Baywatch stars, in their twenties, men would be 30yo at best, the commisioner in charge maybe soon to reach 40yo, young Brad Pitt style :))
GRACIAS!!! ESTA EN CASTELLANO!!!
PELICULAS QUE ME GUSTAN MUCHO GRACIAS
Wonderful!
Never disappoints
Basil Rathbone is the GOAT
Bellissimo 👍👏🥰
Basil Rathbone & nigel bruce best portrayal of Homes and Dr.Watson. just natural.
These are the characters I enjoy. The director story line and camera
great! but one issue: Doyle never wrote such an episode.
This movie was portrayed as happening in the 1940s whereas Sherlock Holmes was a character that lived with hackney coaches in 1900.
Classic movie, thanks for posting it.
You know what's funny... The Woman never wears green. lol
Maravilloso Sherlock Holmes. Universal aunque pasen los años. Gracias
Notice that there is NO woman in green. Even after colorizing the entire movie, still no woman ever wears green.
Sure there was you simply missed her
58:03 “Canabis Japonica”….in other words the lady in green was ‘Mary Jane’
Hell yes! @@ValisX
Well obviously they wouldn’t think people could colorise their black and white movies , I assume the lady in green is the woman at 58:00
I also believe the colorisation might not be the most accurate. Everything has rather a sepia colour washed over.
But it could also be a 2nd meaning, as Cannabis Japonica is Japan's deeply-rooted ties with the cannabis plant, it does have a role in creating unique and beautiful ‘outfits’ or rather green kimonos.
😅 green 💚
WOW that Hillary Brooke was GORGEOUS......😍
