    This was so excellent Tim...from a Mustad man....makes very good sense and as an omen to me, my favorite bird, the Song Sparrow, was singing in the background....I am very aware of the hook gap and always tried to maximize the area between the hook point and not too much of a bulged thorax...

    Tim love your videos ! yes jig hooks are great for some patterns especially those that are more of an attractor pattern. There are times when some of our tailwater and creek wild trout get locked into the hatch a nymph tied on a traditional hook actually with pick up more fish. Tight lining works great for all nymph fishing.

      Appreciate the kind words re: my enthusiasm, though I have zero plans on starting fly fishing infomercials, ha ha! Hanak hooks are the best I've used re: nymphs, and the ones I choose far greater than other brands. With that said, there are some other great choices out there; Fulling Mill is producing excellent nymph hooks, too. Speaking of books, I'm working on a new one, so I better start planning a new infomercial ;-) Thanks for taking a moment to comment, and hope to hear from you on some of my other videos. As much as I like those because this is the first hook brand I used for jig hooks. Have to say, now I prefer dohiku for consistency of shape and strength.

    Love using jig hooks for droppers. I've tied several variants of Frenchies . How do you modify traditional nymph patterns to work on jig hooks? Do you use jig hooks for emerger style nymphs like RS2, Barr's Emerger, WD40, etc.?

    However, and there is always a however, if using a sumbmerger pattern and drawing it upward, as in Leisenrig Lift, I would rather have point down...I guess it depends on the fish attack angle....

    • @TimCammisa
      @TimCammisa  Рік тому

      Great thoughts, John, though there are many thoughts now that show a hook point is rarely point down. I think we need to perform some experiments with hooks! ;-) Tim www.troutandfeather.com

    Dom at Troutbitten says that all nymph hooks ride point up? Is he wrong?

    • @TimCammisa
      @TimCammisa  Рік тому +1

      There are many variables at play, Brad, but my thinking is similar to Tim Flagler's in this video: ua-cam.com/video/2QDwZ1eG-us/v-deo.html Tim shows some great shots and exclaims, "Jig hooks with a slotted tungsten bead ride at an angle...and tend to ride downstream with the bead leading and hook point riding up." Based on his thinking, they are less likely to snag. My experiences support that thinking, too. So jig hooks it is! ;-) Tim www.troutandfeather.com

    • @TimCammisa
      @TimCammisa  Рік тому

      Where will you place the weight, Warren? I think I would advise you to tie a few and see how they ride based on placing weight in differing locations. Very interesting for sure! Tim www.troutandfeather.com

    • @markusfipps4170

      Yeah they don't snag the bottom they snag fish and should be illegal everywhere. It's not fly fishing. Watch even the best can't resist the temptation to give it the snag jerk at the end of every drift. Everyone that has ever fished for salmon knows how to drag across the face and snag. Shameless

  • @emoste01

    or just keep your nymph hooks and use inverting tungsten beads. It provides the same affect without obstructing the hook gap. The beads are also more dense than the same size slotted bead.

    No, because I am a fly fisherman and not a euronympher, and not a jig fisherman. I also think that fly fishing for trout shouldnt get too far away from the classics or it loses it's soul. The fact that the biggest thing in euronymphing now is going full mono and designing spinning gear for it, just turns me right off
